JULY 29: Street Soccer Tournament

We are once again partnering with our friends at the Vancouver Street Soccer League to host a soccer tournament in our beautiful city. Events like this are a fantastic way to connect with our community, and we really need some of you to step forward to help us out. The fact that there is a delicious BBQ fundraiser at the same time will hopefully attract some hungry #BetterSupporters too.

Our schedule is still in development, but we are expecting this event to run from morning to early afternoon. We are still putting together the fine details, but here is what we need some help with:

GOPHERS – You’re gonna “gopher this” and “gopher that” at the supermarket to ensure we have all the supplies we need for a successful day.

FIELD CREW – The field will need a safety inspection and needle clean-up before the matches get underway. Safety is important to all of us, and we’ll ensure you have all the supplies you need to protect yourself and others.

TRANSPORT & SET UP – We need a few folks to transport some folding tables from our downtown storage facility to the park. We will also need some help setting up our BBQ tent (it’s a big 6 person job).

BBQ SERVERS – It takes a lot of helping hands to keep the lunch lines moving!

More details to follow. If you can help, please contact us at

JULY 22: Timbers Army, Come On Over!

On Saturday July 22 we welcome the Timbers Army for a solid weekend of football, beery good times and a kickass fundraising event in support of hardworking organizations that are helping refugees settle in our two beautiful countries.

First off, the Southsiders will take on the Timbers Army in a 4:00 pm kickabout at Andy Livingstone Park – East (at Keefer and Columbia). This event is open to all-comers, so please bring $10 to cover the cost of field rental and insurance. The Southsiders are leading 4-2 on aggregate, by the way, so come out and cheer us on even if you’re not quite “match fit.”

After we have finished comparing our turf burns, be sure to join us at Doolin’s for The Equality Benefit Concert,  presented by the Vancouver Southsiders and Timbers Army.

The TA and Southsiders pride themselves on being inclusive, accepting and respectful to all. We stand for equality, and against racism, bigotry, and hate. We have always strived to be the place where everyone feels welcome. We are the place where everyone belongs. On Saturday July 22nd, our two groups will stand and sing together as one saying unequivocally that ALL ARE WELCOME.

Proceeds from this benefit will be split between the Vancity Humanitarian Fund here at home, and the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization in Portland.

Festivities kick off at Doolin’s beginning at 7:00 pm. Live music will begin at 8:00 pm. There will be a 50:50 cash prize as well as other ways to donate at this event. Keep your eyes open for updates!

UPDATE!  On Saturday August 12th, there will be a #CapsOnTV excursion to Bowen Island to watch VWFC play away against the New England Revolution. The ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay to Bowen Island is only 20 minutes and costs about $13 return!

Match time is 5:00 pm. We will be gathering downstairs at Doc Morgan’s Pub, which is a mere 100 meters up the hill from the ferry dock. If you take the afternoon ferries from Horseshoe Bay at 2:35 pm or 3:45 pm you will arrive in plenty of time.

If you are interested in helping with the Membership & Merch table(s) for this event, please email Aaryn at Volunteers will have their walk-on ferry fare (from Horseshoe Bay to Snug Cove) as well as one meal and a pint at Doc Morgan’s covered!

THURSDAY: Burger & Beer Fundraiser

On Thursday June 15th, the Southsiders will be hosting a Burger & Beer fundraiser at Doolin’s and you’re all invited! Start time is 6:30 pm.

As some of you may know, one of our most ardent flag-wavers, Aidan, was injured during a Southsiders rec league match almost a year ago. As a result of the injury, he’s been unable to work for over 10 months and is facing an indeterminate amount of time off based on the outcome of his upcoming surgery, scheduled for June 20th.

We don’t know about you guys, but there aren’t many of us who could afford to be off work for well over a year with no source of income / benefits to rely on! But through it all, Aidan has continued to show up week after week with a smile on his face ready to support the boys in Blue and White, wave a flag and march to the match. If you want to see the definition of #BetterSupporters, take a look in his direction!

Tickets for this event are $20 and include a burger (beef or veggie) and a beer. We will also be accepting cash donations. All proceeds from this event will go to Aidan’s recovery fund.

There will also be a silent auction featuring some rare football jerseys / kits / shirts and memorabilia from Aidan’s private collection. Not to name names, but if you’re a Team Canada, 86ers, Premier League, etc. supporter, this is definitely an event you need to attend! Word on the street is there is even a player issue Canada top featuring a former Whitecap and some Caps’ swag from the Swangard days available!

Tickets can be purchased
* through the Southsiders #CapsOnTour shop
* through Aaryn directly (e-mail:
* in person at Doolin’s on Thursday.

If you plan to purchase in person, please RSVP to this event so we can give Doolin’s an accurate head count.

DIRECT DONATIONS: If you can’t join us for the event, we ask that you please consider making a $10 donation through our website. Please click here. You may have to log in to your Southsiders account to complete the transaction.

#BetterSupporters show up and support their own! See you Thursday!
