How long do we think we might be able to keep this guy? After the Houston game on the post game show Dede suggested he would like to be his agent because he see's Darren having a future with bigger clubs.

Are we all convinced? Would it be wise not to become to emotionally invested in young Darren?

What a fabulous game. I'd have to go back a few years recall such an electric young player.

It seems that a bridge along the I-5 has collapsed. The actual section that’s collapsed is near Mount Vernon, and crosses the Skagit River. There are other alternatives nearby, but it’s something everyone should be aware of if they’re driving.

This is from an email I got from the Vancouver Street Soccer folks. I haven't seen anything lately from the Board about our charity partnership with VSSL, but I assume we're still helping them out.

SUBJECT: Help Us Send Street Soccer Players to June Sports in Alert Bay

Hello,

I wanted to invite you to join a crowd-sourcing effort undertaken by the Vancouver Street Soccer League to raise $5,000 to send a group of street soccer players to compete in June Sports, an annual First Nations sporting event held on Father's Day weekend in Alert Bay. It is an incredible community celebration that had a profound impact on the lives of many of our players when we traveled and competed there in 2011.

You can learn more about June Sports here: portlandfc.ca/events/

Basically, we need your help to make it happen. We need to raise roughly $5,000 in the next couple weeks to pay for food and transportation (accommodation is free because we'll be sleeping in tents!).

Every day or so, we will update our June Sports page so you know how much we've raised. You can help by donating here: canadahelps.org/CharityProfilePage.aspx?CharityID=s69787

Or help us spread the word and forward this on to a friend or post our June Sports page: http://portlandfc.ca/events/ on your Facebook wall or twitter feed.

Please help us get out the word!

Thanks,

A Big Street Soccer Fan

I have put this forth as a potential chant before - Rod Stewart's "Rhythm of My Heart". I still think this is a very viable chant that has the potential to be as good as "Boundary Road" with regards of being Southsider staple. The lyrics had been messed about with in the Official Chants thread. Anyway, to show you it's potential I took 15min today and recorded it.

Don't claim to be a great singer so go easy on me please ;)

my version: https://soundcloud.com/georgiastraitsupporters/rhythm-of-the-southside

New Southsider Lyrics:

The rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum

With the words "I love you" rolling off my tongue

No never will I roam for the Southside is home

Where the ocean meets the sky

In Vancouver

We'll use this thread to discuss the weekly MLS Power Rankings

Whitecaps have started off at 12th for the 2012 instalment.

The Power Rankings Politburo has been a fan of Martin Rennie since the old Cleveland City Stars days, and we’re very, very fond of what he’s done with the ‘Caps roster so far. They still need some depth in central midfield, but the overhaul looks like a winning one.

Key Additions: Sébastien Le Toux (F), Lee Nguyen (M), Lee Young-Pyo (D), Darren Mattocks (F/M)
Key Losses: Jeb Brovsky (D), Shea Salinas (M)
First Game: March 10 vs. Montreal

2013 Away Travel

With the 2013 MLS schedule set to be released on Wednesday morning I figured it would be worthwhile to update you all on the vision for away travel for the upcoming season.

As Director of Away Travel, my first priority is to help plan and organize travel to the away matches of the Whitecaps first team. Part of my role involves contacting the various front offices concerning ticketing, away supporter rules and regulations, and coordinating pre/post-match events with the opposing supporter groups when we are away. I will also be responsible for starting and updating the various away travel threads on the the forum.

To ensure that this process runs as smoothly as possible, I am asking for your cooperation and assistance in refraining from contacting the various front offices concerning the away matches, and from starting additional threads for these trips. It is my hope that we can keep the “Away Travel” branch of the forum not only organized, but as the main source of #CapsOnTour information.

We will once again be offering organized Southsiders trips to Seattle and Portland this year. The specifics of these trips are dependent on the schedule, the away ticketing allocation and restrictions placed on us by the various front offices, and will become available as soon as we can get them to you. We are considering some unique options for these trips, so stay tuned for the exciting details.

Depending on the level of interest and number of people, we may also offer additional organized trips to other away matches. With five matches in California this season (San Jose twice, Chivas twice, Galaxy once), I would like to see an “official” trip planned down there, and am hopeful that we can get a large contingent traveling to the Midwest and East Coast this year. We are looking into a number of ways in which we can make these trips more affordable for our members, including discounted airfare, and hope to see our #CapsOnTour contingent grow. If we do not plan an organized trip to an away match to which you would like to travel, fear not, for we will still have the basics covered for you.

Although the priority for away trips will be to see the first team in action, we may also consider setting up trips to see our Reserve and Residency teams in action, in addition to traveling to support our other local soccer teams, like the Victoria Highlanders.

If you would like a dedicated thread for these types of trips, or any others that are missing, or have any questions or comments for me, please email me at me at travel@vancouversouthsiders.ca, and I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.

Thanks for your cooperation and support. I can’t wait to experience the 2013 season with you all - only 53 more days!
