Not sure what kind of pull anyone has with the club, but It would be GREAT if we could get Carl to bring him out of the Bell Box when the SS arrive at the plaza for a true welcome.

I know it's short notice but it would awesome to do!

What a class act. Couldn't be more impressed with his honesty and his non-ego attitude. Giving the respect to his new teammates like he did blew me away. Just the way he said it, pure class. He's going to fit in very well with this club.

Yup. My grandfather was a Dundee United supporter to the day he died and went to every home match. He said Robson was a class act way back in the day and always thought he would go places. Who'd a thought he'd play for his grandson's club all these years later.

  • Barry Robson is coming into the 'Caps fold as perfect as it can be. Right attitude, right position, completely respectful of his teammates and the great accomplishments they've achieved so far. Up until now, I just looked at his addition as "I know his skills are fantastic...wonder what attitude he'll bring..."

I'm so impressed by his attitude coming here! He's going to help us in a big way over time I hope!

yeah, I think we have another YP Lee type of situation. The guy absolutely wants to be in Vancouver for the long term with his family and is a team-first type of player; of very high quality and integrity.

If the Whitecaps could be a consistent competitor on the pitch, they have a real chance to actually be that top 25 club, insofar as when players look for a move outside of the Prem, Bundesliga, or La Liga, they think of coming to Vancouver for being a world class city and a world class organization.

LA Galaxy have done fairly well at being an international brand, and a few more YP Lee and Barry Robsons who come here to be in a good city and playing for a good organization, and we could be on par with the LA Golden Balls.

ETA: Yes I realize top 25 club in the world is silly, but it's a good 25 year goal.

Eddie Sebrango. Marcus Haber, Charles Gbeke, Jason Jordan, Omar Salgado, it's good cause it works with 4 or 5 syllables. :-D

Omar's is now "butter through knife" Omar... :P

Doo doo do do has been a Robson staple wherever he's been. The chance of singing that for Omar this year is very very slim anyways.

It would be a simple perfect and meaningful welcome for Robson.

I like that he's going to be here till he's 36.

Then with him looking at his coaching licences, who knows, he may even end up as part of the coaching staff.

Would be great for the young guys comings through (Bryce, Caleb, Fisky) to have a guy with his leadership around for all of their key years and beyond.

Good stability for the overall team too.

While it would lack wit to be sure a simple "Barry, Barry, Barry" a la the Jerry Springer show (not that I would know from personal experience, of course) could have legs because its super easy, thus guaranteeing mass appeal.

Are you wanting the New York and LA type DP's bili? Bigger names more offensive flair?

IMO this guy is going to make us better and it is in a position that we need and have needed for years. My gut feeling is that this guy is going to be good for the club.

Is he going to, by himself, win us a cup? Probably not but he's what we need right now.> theonewolf said:

I love creativity in songs, but the creativity should be for "anthems", not player chants. Player praise chants should be very short, and should primarily consist of repeating the player’s name, so that (a) they can quickly and easily be joined by the whole stadium, and (b) they can be understood and heard immediately by the player on the field you are praising.

Pronounced "shaw-neech", with the final 'ch' like that in 'loch'. http://juandefucaplate.ca/

I think Robson is going to help the club improve overall, and I believe the biggest impact he'll have is on Koffie, personally. Kind of like how Sundin when he was with the Canucks really had a lasting impact on Kesler particularly.

Can't wait to see Robson hit the pitch.

I wonder what other players will be transferring to the 'Caps this Summer?

We started a #IrfaansInterestingWeek hashtag on twitter. It was after midnight so we only played a bit with it, but we could have some fun with that one.

I love the Mrs Robinson song for Barry. The more songs we have with southside/southsiders in it, the less people will sing it if people care about that.

I share that opinion to an extent, but felt more that way a month ago when the team was struggling and he was being viewed as the cure-all. I sense less of that now.

The above is used for Scottish darts player Gary Anderson in Sky promos.

If you want a really traditional Scottish terracing chant for him, I would go with the simple:

    Oh, Barry, Barry.

    Barry Barry Barry Barry Roooobson

It's sung to the tune of the Chorus of Chicory Tip's "Son of a Father". He'd love it and recognise it right away as being very Scottish.
