Cascadia Soccer Day celebration - July 14

    Just saw this:

A Big F***ing Party, Cascadia Soccer Day – July 14th

CascadiaNow! Organizers working in Vancouver BC are working to coordinate a big f***ing party to celebrate the Pacific Northwest, a sense of pride in place, and of course Soccer! And they want to make sure you get a chance to join them.

    Here’s the scoop.

Cascadian Dark Ales will be on special, regional and local dishes using local Cascadian food will be served, and if all goes well, stickers, patches and hopefully other swag and merchandise will be given out for free or sold at cost.

The Whitecaps play Chicago that day, and the Timbers are at home against Los Angeles (and the Sounders play Salt Lake on Sunday), so there is talk about working to try and incorporate the games, and link up the celebrations with other cities via webcam or even have projectors showing conversations on walls via any number of the Cascadia Facebook pages, twitter or one specifically made for Cascadia Day in order to help organize and promote it.

In the run up, it has been proposed an all Cascadia mp3 playlist made especially for the day. This in itself would be a fun project and we could get in touch with local radio stations to sponsor the event, work with us to develop the playlist and maybe even play the playlist throughout the day, if nothing else, jointly streaming live online.

If anyone is interested in organizing in your town or city email our event visionary Wes at wes.regan@shaw.ca. Further ideas or suggestions are welcome.

    are we involved with this?

No one has contacted us. I'll shoot them an email to see if they are organizing anything in Vancouver.

    From the organizer:

Hi Brenton, we'd love it if a few soccer supporters would join us for pre-game picnic/bbq. Most of us are ardent Whitecaps fans ourselves. Spread the word and please pass on my contact info if anyone is interested in helping with a few planning details. Bringing Cascadian flags and wearing Whitecaps or White Blue and Green colours is encouraged. Bring your own meat, plenty of buns and fixings will be available.

    Here are some more details:

we're having [a BBQ] in Queen Elizabeth park (North slope close to the Frisbee Golf course)

We're going to be in the park from about 2:00 until 5:00 and then head over to the pub. Thanks for helping us spread the word. Seattle and Portland have similar parties planned for the day too!

    and the pub is:

Either St. Augustine's on Commercial Drive or the Five Point on Main St. Leaning towards the latter and may actually book half the place.

I wondered why he hadn't reached out to us to get involved. Here's what he said:

I hadn't even thought of it, in my ignorance I didn't realize there would be an official contact or website for the Southsiders.

So, apparently we have some work to do in getting our name out into the community, if he and his crew are indeed "ardent Whitecaps fans". Especially considering we have interacted with the group (Cascadia Now) on twitter a few times.

so they don't see the banner which is so prominent at every game with the .com?

Here's the Facebook page for the day:

    Cascadia Day

They'll be watching the game at the Cascade Room, booked out part of it and showing it on a big screen, apparently.
