The van trip (7 seats) is on!
Confirmed:
Possible:
Seats still open: 1 or 2
A seat in the van will cost roughly $20, plus a share of gas costs. We're leaving in the early afternoon.
If you want in (you're 100% committed, have a valid passport, and can meet us in Vancouver), let us know ASAP. You will need to buy your own ticket, by phoning Ticketmaster (the website apparently does not accept Canadian credit cards).
It's a rental van... we're splitting the rental costs.
Be nice, or we'll tell the Seattleites about your ACES scarf.
Boundary_Road said: This is bullshit. Yea its great to see portscum lose to an amateur side, but all that really screams out to me is how much most MLS clubs really don't care about the us open cup. thats why the ussf doesnt deserve all 4 CCL spots.
Or the MLS is just basically a lightweight league.
PBandG said: Haha sadly I will not be making any trips to Seattle this year or I would be wearing it proud.
Can I borrow the scarf for the August game? It'll go nicely with my banner
Endersby is in, one seat left!

That was an enjoyable trip - most of the ECS we interacted with were quite pleasant, except for one guy who wanted me to go home. My tears didn't stop for some time after that zinger, but I soldiered on. There was a referee and a bunch of Sounders to chirp, after all. I shook a couple of the Cal FC player's hands (WHO ARE YA!?!) and congratulated them on their run as well as wished them luck in the future.
The Gorilla FC crew are a decent bunch for sure. They gave us cake!
Thanks for driving, Ombuddy!
The one guy who responded to getting chirped about the hideous clown costumes the Sounders were wearing with "at least it's not a Whitecaps kit" and a middle finger is the one that really did me in.
Quarter-finals tonight! And for the first time in competition history, a trio of third-division clubs still alive.

Things of note:
Seattle just evened up with Sporting KC 1-1 in the 86th minute.
Stream here: http://www.ilemi.me/23363/1/Watch-Kansas-City-vs-Seattle-Sounders/
Extra time now. Sporting's fans are singing the I believe chant.
Stream just crapped out on me. Going to penalties.
I'm still going on strong I'll let you know the final result Chris
Off the Hands of Gspurning and in. Brad Evans blasts it low into the left side of the net. Espinosa hits it low but the Gspurning saves it. Burch blasts it up the middle.
Seattle is up 2-1
Sporting KC scores off the crossbar
Miss by Alonso
Zusi floats a slow ball way over the corner
Tiffert saved low right by Nielson
Still 2-2
ACES!!!!!!!
Jimmy Nielsen, love him or hate him, is a beauty. If you ask me, he's responsible for making two Sounders miss.
Nakamura is saved by Gspurning who was off the line, Retake! He burries the second kick low left
Eddie Johnson Beckhams it after a Grobbelaar like effort from Jimmy Nielson.
Sporting KC wins on penalties.

I suppose it's win at all cost ... but we'd be screaming blue bloody murder if it was against us.

Would we? I expect some people would think it was classless, and others would think it was an athlete trying for a competitive edge, just like the Wambach thing.
You've been here long enough. Yeah, we would. ;-)

Isn't that the same thing?

Did I miss something? He jumped around a bit on the line and pointed to his right on the EJ miss. Was there something else?
He was chirping him before the kick. Otherwise, no.
I thought we were talking about the ref calling the keeper off his line?

This is just trash talk, not comparable to Wambach goading the ref. at ;east not in my opinion.
What I enjoy is seeing people from Seattle defend Monday's game then scream bloody murder at yesterday's.

It's an athlete playing mind games to gain an advantage. In that respect, it's comparable. I don't really want to reopen the diving debate, but I think it's odd that you would condemn Wambach when you're on record as supporting "embellishment" as a means of getting the ref to give you calls. Tricking the ref into believing a situation is worse than it is is fine, but reminding her of a situation that is actually happening on the field at that moment is a problem?
Jimmy Nielsen did the soccer equivalent of this:
Juvenile & classless IMO
^ sorry but that isn't even close to the same thing.

Yours and my interpretation of said events and then of the run play during a football match are different then, from my experience, and I know this falls into the realm of it rarely gets called anyway. You will not get a card for taking trash to another player as long as its "clean?" I do it all the time, even when I play against some of my best mates.
You can however get carded or reprimanded by trying to influence the ref by goading him/her into making a call when there is nothing there, ie making the sign to show a booking or in this case counting out the seconds for a ref when he/she is perfectly capable of doing it herfself.
Diving is another thing entirely, I don't think I have condoned actual simulation but I'm ok with embellishment of a foul. Simulation being "something out of nothing" and embellishment being "there was something there and I'm gonna make sure everyone knows it"
And to answer your direct question at the end there Chris.
Yes.
yes, because you're not really tricking the ref, you're just exaggerating an actual foul. Example: I'm a pretty big dude, and when I get run into by smaller guys, if I don't make sure the ref knows I got clattered instead of just standing there and letting the dude run me bounce off me and take the ball then the call is never made. So. sometimes I've got to go to ground, but I don't do it when there is nothing there.

Not even close. "I'm going to save this one because you're not very good" is so different than what Avery did.
Just saw the penalties. Anyone think of Joe Cannon last year in Toronto when they saw that? I guess the goalie off his line only gets called in National Championship games.
