We've all been blessed with a lot of home games lately. My wife, friends and I have been pretty much faithfully going to Doolin's before the game. I don't mind the food, but I think they need to create another "Event Menu". I realize they need a limited menu with our numbers, but maybe they can rotate an A and B menu or something. Is anyone else getting tired of the food they offer? We tried Roxy Burger one Wednesday just because we've been getting tired of the same old thing.
I messaged them through FB about this and they were pretty receptive and said they'll take this issue to their weekly meeting. I was thinking if others feel this way, maybe send them a message or email. This seems like a reasonable request and it could be an easy change IMO.
(apologies if there is another "Doolin's" thread. I searched for it, but couldn't find one.
EDIT: added "menu" to the title - Brenton
EDIT: added "match-day" to the title
PPP and a pint of DA...... AAAAHHH YYYEEEAAAHHH!!!!!
I admit, I am addicted. Since I found out about it I've had it at least onc everytime I've been tat Doolins which is a regular ocurance.
Just hook it up to my veins =P~
I know what I'll be having for breakfast at Doolins today...was never in doubt.
Some people just aren't that bothered with variety. Doolins calls those people "regulars"

Well I could use some variety, and I consider my friends and I regulars. Pick a few new items from the regular menu; I don't think it's a lot to ask.

Swapping couples? Wrong thread dude.
I aways get the pulled pork poutine. It is amazing.
Does it usually take over an hour to get your meal at Roxy Burger on game days?

They would've had more spillover than usual, as Doolin's was a zoo. We'll have to make sure they know when we're expecting huge turnouts in the future.
My experience with Roxy Burger (4 visits) is that they're pretty slow due to being understaffed. It's a tough call because if you bring on extra staff, it's really only for a period of about 2 hours. No server is going to come in for a shift that short so it falls on the restaurant to pay for a full shift when they only need 2 hours.
Best advice: order your food as soon as you arrive.
Been to Roxy Burger three times before matches and there have been empty tables every time - although one was on a Wednesday. Tried to get in for Saturdays match and it was a zoo.....but we were late and that was expected.
We usually order our food early and have not had any issues. Always friendly and fast service.
They even bring the bill quickly as they seem to know when the march is approaching. And the ladies gather at the front window to watch.
Lastly, they do have a few cuties serving!

Actually, that's not entirely true.
An employee who reports for work must be paid for at least two hours, even if the employee works less than two hours.
I'm sure whoever runs Roxy Burger should be smart enough to know that they'll be busy on match days. What's the harm in bringing in 1 extra person for 3-4hrs to help alleviate the strain. I'm sure the increased revenue made on matchdays could surely off-set the cost of 1 extra employee. If not, they have got to be running a really tight ship.
Doolin's seemed to manage fine on Saturday, with the Champions League Final and us Southsiders in there.

You are right, by the rule. But in terms of keeping staff happy, unless it is very convenient to get to work, coming in for a short shift can suck a lot. happy staff is important in every industry.
People like money, right?
Without getting too into the economics of working downtown and living elsewhere, wouldn't you go in for a couple hours of OT? Obviously, if you lived in Cloverdale and worked for Roxy Burger, chances are you'd say no, but then I'd have other questions for you.
You'd also have to believe that the employees at Roxy Burger are also smart to know that if there's a Whitecaps game on, chances are that they'll be busier than normal. Busier to warrant more staff? I don't know. Having had my language called into question at a different establishment, I prefer to have my pre-match meal at an adult establishment. For the record, it wasn't by the employees, it was by another patron.

Why would it be OT? 2 hours on a Saturday morning isn't the 9th and 10th hour on top of an 8 hour shift.

most likely wouldnt be OT, I mean how many servers work 40 hours a week? Most I know work 5 hour shifts ( and make more money with tips than I do all day... but that is another story). People like money but travelling for an hour to get to work and then an hour back for 2 hours pay is most likely not worth it for most people (if its not an hour of travelling, incluide the time most people arrive early before their shift to avoid being late)
It's always the restaurant. Many servers hold down a couple jobs so coming in for a couple hours isn't that simple. You going to sit around waiting for $40?
Lets not lose focus of what the subject in this thread is. Are we sick of the limited menu at doolins, they need to change it up now and again.
Just to be a contrarian ... you really expect Doolins to change their menu for a handfull of matches a year?
YES, THEY ONLY HAVE 6 ITEMS ON GAME DAY MENU.ITS EASY TO CHANGE A COUPLE OF ITEMS.
Ummm, yeah. Your team won on Saturday. You can lose the CAPS.
It's only the 6 item game day menu? I though the concern was the full menu. Then, hell yeah ... they can rotate.
How hard is fish and chips? Not the healthiest of options, but easy for cooks to prepare and to make.
Bad_Gones said: Just to be a contrarian ... you really expect Doolins to change their menu for a handfull of matches a year?
Given that we're talking 20ish dates (not insignificant IMHO) and that the SS'ers (Caps fans in general I suppose) bring in a good chunk of change to Doolins on those dates...I don't feel like its an unreasonable request.
I'm not looking for wholesale changes, but a little variety would be nice. Let's also bear in mind...this is Doolins "game day menu"...if not for Whitecaps games / Whitecaps fans Doolins wouldn't have to worry about this issue.
My 2 cents.
Edit..by the time I posted this the matter had been clarifiied.
If any of you have ever gone out during Dine Out Vancouver you'll know it's the same sort of thing. The restaurant scales down their menu to keep things simpler for the kitchen. Fewer choices = food gets out faster. Same thing for game day at Doolins. But again, if we're only talking a 6 item game day menu, it's not tough at all to switch those items up. Full menu? Different story.
The entire reason for the dumbed down menu is so when it is slammed is so they can get the food out fast. I for one would deal with 6 items and get my meal in under 12 minutes, or have 20 choices and wait an hour.
Last points on Roxy: if their service suffers because of lack of servers, isn't that a worthwhile investment. As for servers, target some students who are looking to pick up some pocket change, often referred to as "seasonal employees."
I don't think that is a game-day menu. It's more of a special events menu, which The Cellar uses for their special events as well. I know this because I go to The Cellar a couple times a year for an Indie Music Showcase.
Would a bit of variety kill anyone? Don't think so, but then again, I like a good burger/fries/beer.

I would rather a dumbed down menu of 8 items that rotates or changes completely every couple months.
Some of you guys are missing the original point of my thread. I agree that Doolin's should have a limited menu. I was there on the first day that it became our home match pub, when they tried using their full menu, and it was a gong show.
I was just asking that Doolin's rotate their limited menu. Maybe even a few items only.
I messaged Doolin's when I first wrote this thread, and they said they'd bring it up at their weekly meeting. They just messaged me back to say that they're going to have a different "game day feature" every game, so we'll have some variety. Cheers to Doolin's, they've been awesome with responding and listening to suggestions. :)
Fuck yeah! Chicken and Waffles!

Push the fish.Thanks Eric.
Just got sent the new sports menu. They really took on alot of the input we gave them. Looks tasty ... can't wait until Sunday.
It's so nice that they listen to our comments.
Chicken and waffles?
I've been hearing good things about Chewies. I'll have to give it a shot.
I try to only eat chicken and waffles quarterly, and 2 Chefs got the last try a few weeks ago.
Chewies is a few blocks from my house, so def on the radar!
