He was playing for Canada tonight in the 3-0 loss to Mexico in the under 20s.

He should be back for Sunday I would think.

Does anyone else here think that Harris is overrated. He is very slow, doesn't shoot and his goals are tap ins. Yes he does take the ball in well and protect it but doesn't do anything with it.

All that being said GO CAPS GO!!!

Depends who you ask. A lot of bloggers realize it. A lot of mainstream guys haven't. Guess they're just looking at stats.

Which is why I'm hoping he gets a break today. His ankles have to be sore after absorbing some tough tackles in the first few weeks.

Not good for our Hassli.  Hope he's not a target tonight.  So, if Hassli get's two yellows, does that mean he would miss the next two matches?  two yellows=red, plus add the two yellows to his already 3 = 5 for another suspension?

Also, they are not planning on stopping the match to sing Happy Birthday are they?  Or are we just singing while play continues?

Hassli only has 1 yellow card that will count against him going forward. The 2 yellows he received at Philly are not counted as he received a Red Card and has served his one game suspension against SKC.

I agree with you.  In spite of his goals, I think he gives the ball away too much, and even though he's scored two, he has missed a number of great chances.  When he's on the field he'll always get my full support, but I'd rather see Camilo partner Hassli.

Harris does some good things and some of you mentioned that already, and obviously his finishing skills isn't great.  But I think he's effective, he seems to have good awareness and knows where to be most times (which helps for the tap-ins) but I agree Camilo and Hassli are definitely better strikers to have on the pitch when attacking.  Camilo can hold the ball and make nice cuts, Hassli has a great touch and is a big body.  How about putting Harris in an attacking midfielder position behind those 2?  Would that work? I have only seen Harris this year, never watched him in the past, so I don't know if he's been tried in that position before.

I don't know anything about this specific ref but I know this is a problem for the MLS. There are a number of South American refs and they just toss out cards and penalties like they're nothing. It's a problem in a league where you're trying to promote and grow the game.

Look at the game v. Philly, typical. A classic where the refs demeanour was so off base with the actual play on the pitch. That shit drives me crazy.

    See you guys tonight.

I can see the "big man/little man" combination of Hassli and Camilo being pretty effective. Harris works hard but nothing I've seen of him convinces me he should be a first choice striker. Like Khalfan he may be most effective coming off the bench to add some pace. Agree with starting Chiumiento as a sub, rushing our best player back from injury won't benefit anybody.

NE are a team I really expect us to beat. Shame I have to work tonight, I'll try and catch as much of the game as I can. COME ON YOU CAPS!
  • Southside Nation,

As hard as it might be to imagine, Harris has played a lot as a winger/wide midfielder during his time in MLS (especially last year with FC Dallas).  I personally don't think that is a fit for him with our squad.  I too would prefer Camilo to partner Eric tonight because their styles are different, which will make it harder for New England to defend against.

    Much Love,

    Forever A Team

P.S. I'll be in 219 CC tonight with a bunch of Jr. & Sr. High Students...third match and third different place in the south curve to take in the match from...should be interesting.

I can't seeing him being effective as an attacking midfielder.  He gives the ball away too much.  I think his best role is to come off the bench for 20 or 30 minutes when TT wants to change things up a bit, but like I and many others have said on here the right pairing is Hassli-Camilo for now.

I still think we should do flares during the march it would look cool and would be a compromise for people who want to light it in the stadium.

As much as we all want Camillo-Hassli, it's worth noting Teitur has seen more of these three than any of us, and in the first two games when he had the choice amongst the three, he chose Harris-Hassli.

Unless Atiba is hurt, I expect him to go that route again, and keep a potential Camilo-Hassli combo in his back pocket for later in the game.

Harris is most effective with his back to the net 20 yards out and turn and fire.  All three game she has had a brilliant opportunity from this position. I personally am not just yet a fan of his, but that said I have seen improvement each game and like his attitude, so I think with time he is going to excel. I would like to see Camillo get 30 minutes a game once Harris has had a chance to bang the d for 60.  I think Camilo would be a great scorer in that scenario and could start on short weeks and VC games to allow for rest.  Tonight, I would think Chuimiento or Camillo starting against a physical squad is a bad idea.  I'd prefer Khalfan and Wes on the wings to run the Revs ragged.

Though we will be facing, possibly, the worst keeper in the MLS tonight and there is potential to light him up big time.

I actually think Sanvezzo has looked rather poor coming off the bench. Part of that might just be experience. In the first half against Sporting Kansas City, he was trying lots of sly tricks and runs that weren't working because the defenders seemed to be a bit quicker than he thought they were. Later in the game, Sanvezzo had the pace down a better and his opportunities improved accordingly.

So far, though, I'd rather see Sanvezzo starting and Harris as an impact substitute than vice-versa. I'm not a Harris fan but I like him better than Long Tan to date.

    Agree with Grand stander,

I think Atiba Harris is our very own Emile Heskey. Except so far his goal scoring rate  is so far way better than Heskey (even if they have been flukes) . Still, Harris has already blown more than he's scored.

Hope it's Sanvezzo (what's so difficult about saying his last name?) and Hassli against New England.

I wouldnt call Harris our Emile Heskey, when Heskey is on the pitch, he may not get the goals but contributes to the team as a whole with his hold up play, which Harris doesnt have.

If you are just comparing them on their goalscoring record then yes i'm with you on that one.

We know Harris has two goals and three assist in three soccer matches right? That is more PPG then either Sedin!

Atiba Harris leads the league in assist, third in goals, second in shots on target, 7 of 9 shots have hit the net. He's not a pretty player and is awkward when on the ball with space, but that's not his role! He is exactly the guy we all wish we had last year when no one was scoring. He's never going to be a solo striker, but he's going to bang every ball towards the net when he gets the chance.

ot and his goals are tap ins. Yes he does take the ball in well and protect it but doesn't do anything with it.

Harris needs to finish better, but I do not think anyone can argue about his work rate.

Go back and take a look at the fantastic tying goal vs SKC, if it wasn't for Harris winning that loose ball back, and laying it off to Khalfan, there was no goal.

    ...and oh ya, Cannon please.

  • What a stupid red card by Hassli! I sincerely hope he did not realize he received the first yellow, because that kind of stupidity should not be on our team.

    :-/
  • I agree, some horrible calls. Also i know the caps were getting tired with the 9 men near the end but why just boot the ball away and give it back to NE, why not try keep possession to run the clock a bit.

The positive is that we got a point. But Hassli... what were you thinking?

Poor officiating though, the first red card was bogus!

But even with all the adversity, we have shown brilliance on the pitch. I'm really optimistic about the direction of the club.

My god, HASSLI?!?!? WTF?!?! Seriously, you know the rules, you know you have a card, yes it was a big goal, but why would you want to put us down 2 men?!?!

Refereeing was god awful, what's with that? First in philly, now here! I hope it's not a trend...

  • The one point here that's missing is that the Revs were outplayed by a Whitecaps team that was down 2 men. I am glad to be a Whitecaps fan and not a Revs fan tonight.
  • Sorry as bad as Hassli's card was, WHAT IS HARRIS doing on this team. I said it earlier he does not help the team and again tonight we see it again. He kept losing the ball and just did not make any smart decisions.

I no longer have a VOICE thanks to TOLEDO. I have not seen such poor officiating since the Italy vs South Korea game at the 2002 world cup. I can not for the life of me understand how the MLS has kept this guy as an official. Does he not himself realize he is bad????

Anyways best of luck in Houston!!!

Exactly what i came on here to post.

Stupid Red by Hassli, but awful calls from the ref all night. If the MLS wants to be respected like other leagues in Europe then they need to do something about the quality of the officiating in this league.

If we keep going like we are and get Hassli to complete a game without getting a red and get a full fit squad together we might be able to put something together for playoffs!

  • Wow. Watched all your games so far this year. Never a dull moment with the Whitecaps this year.

I thought Hassli was playing up to the crowd with the shirt toss. I think he knew what he was doing, honestly didn't think its a yellow card offense. Technically did not take off his jersey. Brilliant if you ask me. One lucky fan, with a very memorable jersey souvenier.
