The Whitecaps have said they want us to jump up and down.  I asked about the stand falling down and they said ... impossible.

Good to hear it's impossible. I don't want to prove them wrong, but I think the jumping will be rather effective. It is in Germany and those are all concrete stadiums, so the noise we make should end up being even louder

How abo9ut this one modified for English. Lots of teams in Germany use this one

In the original it's, "who doesnt jump is not a Bremer (fan, or more accurately citizen, of Bremen)"

    We could do something like

"Those who jump support the Whitecaps Hey! Hey!"

It's a great way of getting the extra noise from jumping up and down in the stands. Really gets the blood pumping

There's the example out of Germany

I love that chant.  I put it up on the old board's chants thread but nobody bit.

How about "Jump if you support the Whitecaps.  Hey!  Hey!"

Sweet chant to get people off of their asses.

With the big swiss connection what about a very simple take on "Hopp Schwizz".  It roughly translates to "Come on Switerland".

    "Hopp Southside" or "Hopp Whitecaps"?

  • We've seen from Seattle's experience moving to MLS that it's the very simple chants that have the best chance of catching on across an entire stand/stadium.  With that in mind, I was looking up Vegalta Sendai (sadly, the club closest to the earthquake epicentre in Japan), and came across a simple chant to the theme of Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore".

It's a bit simplistic, but what would you all think of chanting the following to this tune:

    We're Vancouver Whitecaps,
    Oh! We're Vancouver Whitecaps,
    We're Vancouver Whitecaps, Evermore~~~~.
    Hey!~~~~ Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

    (and repeat)

And BTW, those are Sendai's supporters at an away match.

Watching the Sendai footage (which is amazing btw), I couldn't help wondering how many of them may not have survived what's happened in their city.

    I like the chant.

TA do it mind you, with "We're The Timbers Army. The famous Timbers Army. We're the Timbers Army, who are you?"

Sounds good.  The Voyageurs (Canadian national team supporters) chanted "Who's not jumping's not Canadian... hey!...allez!" back in 2008 in Montreal during our first World Cup qualifier against St. Vincent & Grenadines.

  • Have we ever tried "Saints go marching in?" Obviously just switch in Caps for Saints and your done. I know some may associate it with other clubs but I think it could get a decent number of newbies to join in. It sounds really good at Spurs when done slow.

  • Oh and for Omar Salgado, we could do Tom Jone's "Delilah"

    Oooo...OOoo....Maaaaaarrrrrrrr......SALGADO! (lalalaadeededaaaaa) x2

So before, you start to cheer some more

Omar Salgado is coming to add to the score!

What's even better is that the original song sounded kinda mariachi like, suiting his ethnicity :D

    "Hopp Southside" or "Hopp Whitecaps"?

In Luzern, it was three Hopps, i.e. "Hopp, hopp, hopp, Luzern!"  That would work fairly well ... "Hopp, hopp, hopp, Whitecaps!"  And it would make Chiumiento feel right at home. :-)

NOTE:  If you like a chant.  Vote it up on the left side of the page or if you dislike it vote it down. We then can take the most popular and add it to the song page on the website.  I will then make a print/download version that everyone can have.

We should have chants for the Individual players as well...

I like the Hop Schwiz idea, how about just HASS-LI to the same beat for him?

Also I know in alot of european countries when they announce the starting eleven, the PA guy announces the number and first name of the player, and the crowd yells the last name. It's a great way of showing support and also being informed who's on the field.

How about adapting Queensryche's Empire? :)

here's the original bit that I think could be adapted... at least until we move to BC Place

    "Eastside meets Westside downtown.
No time, no line, the walls fall down.
Can't you feel it coming? EMPIRE!
Can't you hear it coming EMPIRE!"

It's a bit simplistic, but what would you all think of chanting the following to this tune:

    We're Vancouver Whitecaps,

    Hey!~~~~ Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

    (and repeat)

And BTW, those are Sendai's supporters at an away match.

If we go with this one, should we do a few verses as a tribute to Sendai and Japan. Something like this:

    "Sendai and Japan

    Oh! Sendai and Japan

    We are thinking of you

    Fight On!!!

    Hey Hey Hey Hey"

Just a tought. maybe start off with these lyrics then go into the whitecaps!! Thoughts???

    Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Manchester United

  • We're Vancouver Whitecaps,
    Oh! We're Vancouver Whitecaps,
    We're Vancouver Whitecaps, Evermore~~~~.
    Hey!~~~~ Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

    (and repeat)

So do people prefer to end this chant with "Evermore~~~" or "Who are you?"?  I personally prefer "Who are you?", but as GoF mentioned, that would be a direct copy of the Timbers' Army chant.

Either way, I like how the "Hey!~~~~ Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!" serves to both differentiate our chant from Portland's, and to make our version a bit more up-tempo and lively.

Given that this is our first match, and lots of people are going to be confused with what's going on and unfamiliar with chant lyrics, I'm not sure if playing around with the lyrics as a one-off would work well. (But if others agree with vancitywop, then let's do it.)

Either way, we'll have a tribute to Sendai on Saturday.

We should really really really use the "Just Can't Get Enough" chant. Look at some of the other Youtube videos of the entire crowd and not just that one section.
Add the fact that it includes jumping on the Empire stands. The place could be deafening.

Noticed the Celtic fans have been singing a version of Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough". It sounds brilliant at the games.

    Their lyrics are:

When I see you Celtic, I go out of my head
    I just can't get enough, I just
    can't get enough
All the things you do to me and all the things you said
    I
just can't get enough, I just can't get enough
We slip and slide and we
fall in love and I just can't seem to get enough of
du du du du du du du
    du du du du

    (repeat several times)

    Here it is:

    I'd propose the following changes:

When I see the Whitecaps, I go out of my head

    I just can't get enough, I just
    can't get enough

All the things they do to me and all the things we've said

    I
just can't get enough, I just can't get enough

Here in the Southside, I'm falling in love and I just can't seem to get enough of

du du du du du du du
    du du du du

Edit - dunno what's up with the spacing in this but you get the idea!

  • Something that would look good to other fans, a simple chant that will engage the whole crowd and a chant that can be used to start up a famous white caps chant.....I have see this done in many places around the world and in many different formats.......

"Stand up if you love the Caps!"

Yes its that simple, once the other fans from other sections of the stadium see all the southsiders slowly standing up it will cause a bit of a stir and other people will slowly join in and start to stand up and when we have everyone stood up we can start a more traditional white caps chant with everyone standing up, this is best used during dull moments of the game or when the team is losing to show our support to the team, because we all know this is going to be a long road for success

Also what is a footie chant without having rhytmic clapping to the chant!

    Guys,

I am Greek and Greece after Brazil and Argentina Greece has the most passionate fans at club level. I've experienced many football games mostly in Greece and I am telling you there, the fans in a football game are considered the 12th player on the field. Anyways, if we here in Vancouver can be half as passionate as the fans in most European leagues it will be great.

I watch tons of football fan videos on YouTube and the following videos could translate into a tradition just before kick-off here in Vancouver for our Whitecaps. It will happen once and like I said just before kick-off. It is a very simple chant and involves everyone in the stadium.

Basically there 2 guys in the center of the field to initiate the start of the chant. One guy is holding a big drum and the other guy is banging on the drum. The banging of the drum happens slow to start and faster towards the end. At this point everyone in the stadium has their arms up clapping and shouting the name of the team every time the the guy in the middle bangs at the drum. In our case it could be WHITECAPS or VANCOUVER but I prefer Whitecaps.
First video is the chant I am talking about from 8:55 to 9:40. Second video from 0 to 30 is same chant but from the center of the field to give you and idea what the drummer and the holder of the drum are doing. Tell me what you think and can we can pull it off?

First video is the chant I am talking about from 8:55 to 9:40. Second video from 0 to 30 is same chant but from the center of the field to give you and idea what the drummer and the holder of the drum are doing. Tell me what you think and can we can pull it off?

ya the sounders do it it's really cool
  • I'm really looking forward to see how the caps do this year I'm a celtic supporter and I'm really excited to see the atmosphere we can create. I changed the words to We are the Champions. I rewrote the whole first verse but I kept it simple to start and if it takes off we could sing the whole verse. Let me know what you think I got lots more

    We Are the Whitecaps

And we need to go On and On and On and On

We are the Whitecaps my friends
    And we'll keep supportin
    Till the end

    Weee are the Whitecaps
    Weee are the Whitecaps
    no time for losers cuz
    Wee are the Vaaaancooouuver............Whitecaps

The other one was a chant we sing at celtic park We shall not be moved but I changed the words.

Weee shall not,  Wee shall not be moved
Weee shall not,  Weee shall not be moved
    By Portland, Seatle or Torooonto
    Weee shall not be moved

We're on our way to Quest field, Wee shall not be moved
We're on our way to BMO field,  Wee shall not be moved
    By Portland, Seatle, or Torooonto
    Weee shall not be moved
  • I think this one sound magic, great job

    THE BLUE AND WHITE FOREVER

Here is my humble rendition for a chant dedicated to the Southsiders & the Blue & White, created in Garage Band.  Excuse my pathetic vocals, but I needed to give you guys the idea of how it is supposed to sound.
    --------------------------
    Whitecaps FC
    You'll always be
    My Blue & White Forever
    Whitecaps FC
    You'll always be
    My Blue and White Forever
    ---------------------------------
Our troops have used this anthem for inspiration over the last two world wars.
    below are the originals

  • Camilo has his own song already. By the most Vancouverish band right now: Said the Whale. It's called Camilo: The Magician. Perfect for a Brazilian striker!
The song works straight up for a chant. Ca--ca-ca-mee-lo. I need to see where you made that card go.
