Three of us flew out for the game assembled the Tifo flags and none
of the caps even bothered to acknowledge us at the end of either of their two TFC games.
Our flight and the Whitecaps flight should be arriving at YVR around 12:15pm I believe.

So Joe plays Good, Bad & Ugly. I still think that both Nolly and Cannon are good keepers but Joe played the worst I've ever seen him. Horrible judgment today. So much for the "blame it no Nolly" crowd and their theories.

TFC played possession better, passed better and we went back to launching endless long balls. Real progress for TFC lately.

I don't think we should fire TS but I do not want him back next year as coach. Send him back to the FO. He has not improved the team and his "tactics" are not working. The old "shouldn't take much to turn the team around" bullshit is now seen for what it was, pure bullshit. So much for the "blame it on the coach" crowd and their theories.

We lose 2 games in a row to one of the worst teams in MLS. Sucks to be us. Oh well we really didn't need any more schedule congestion now did we? Maybe now we can have some time to work on our "tactics" :(

    /snarky rant complete

PS. Please beat Portland and Seattle! A Cascadia Cup would be our only consolation this year.

Too many points dropped in the name of resting players for this "championship". Always painful losing to TFC but I'm happy we're done with it all. Move on.

Agreed. Next year I hope we focus on the league and send our reserves to play the Voyageur's Cup games. Hey Montreal did it, why can't we?

There's no point in firing Soehn now but, personally, I don't think he should be back in either capacity next year. He has proven himself not up to the task and it is now obvious Teitur was made the scapegoat for the FO's inadequacies.

Barber should be looking as of now for someone to fill both the Director of Football Operations and Manager/Coach roles.

  • Let's not forgot what it took for TFC to win.

    1. Previous game, and goal, cancelled. We had all the verve in that game and TFC were flagging.

    2. Dodgy penalty decision.

    3. Saved penalty was retaken.

    4. Rochat tripped in box to gift the second goal.

    5. Every other crappy referree decision.

We get screwed all the time.

You forgot the blatant, undebateable penalty (Camillo taken down) in YVR
that was not called. I don't want to make excuses but it seems like the we
are always on the wrong end of the ref's game changing decisions this year.

Yeah, some calls went TFC's way but we showed nothing, really nothing at all after the first half an hour. After they got their first goal, as dodgy as it was, the whole team just stopped believing and really stopped playing. Just think about our play, yeah we tried, sort of, but our player had absolutely no belief, zero confidence, and no ideas.
We lost twice to krappyist team in the entire league. We suck. It is that simple.

The question is where we go from here. We are effectively out of the playoffs and really have no meaningful soccer until April 2012. I hope we can build some sort of identity, keep our better players, and figure out how we want to play the game before then or we're going to be in for more disappointment.

Soehn in general not looking so good now.

Yep. I was hoping Soehn's tactical changes would help, but I think we've gone backwards. There were rumours that TT had lost the dressing room, but I think Soehn really has. At lest everyone worked hard under TT, with Soehn it looks like our players have just stopped caring.

Weber said it well in the post game. The club has lost it's identity. This was my big concern in firing TT. The reason Koffie and Terry have taken such steps backward is the don't have a fucking clue what they are supposed to do. Say what you will about "rigid tactics" but a team that does one thing really well has a much better chance of winning then a team that does 10 things sort of all right. Before some of the "get over TT and suck TS cock crew" start spouting. I could give a shit who the coach is but every decent team in the world has an identity. This is why I believe TFC is turning a corner in having Winter. He's playing a rigid style of possession ball and the team is forming an identity after only 5 years albeit, but still. Anyway the product right now is bullshit and some of the ugliest play I have ever seen. It's just 11 guys rounded up and scrimmaging. Putting Rochat as CM and dropping Koffie to CB, that's supposed to represent coaching brilliance? It's desperation. All I see is desperation. Now we have our Captain calling out the coach on the sideline?? That's bogus. Now The Duze and Barber spouting off about having a plan and making a splash in the transfer window? Well, they better or else they both should be canned too. Both of them are too arrogant for their own good and that's what pisses me off. Most expensive seats in the league - we're going to be top 25. Fire TT - he's not doing the job just a little tweak and we'll be in the playoffs. Rest players for NCC - this is the BIG thing for us. Lose - lots of time left to push for playoffs. How about - look we don't really know what we're doing so we're going to throw a whole bunch of shit at the wall and hope some of it sticks. TS doesn't have a fucking clue on some level. Whether it is tactics, player management, or communicating tactics etc, I don't know but this team is floundering and lost right now. I've personally moved from we are so close to blow it the hell up and start over. I don't want to wait 5 years for them to figure that out like TFC. Philly sucked and was boring as hell last year but they stuck to the plan and formed an identity, now they are still boring as hell but leading the east. Too late for us to follow that model now. But hopefully we start next year with a good plan and stick to it.
That's all I got for now.

The players look utterly lost out there.  I'm not saying that part of that isn't a lack of talent in some cases, but a lot of that is coaching.  This was a team that the front office assured us would be solid defensively.  Instead, we watch them take the lead and start to panic all of the place.  It's a complete cluster fuck, it has been for a while now even if they've sometimes managed to get a result (see: Seattle and Philadelphia), and that falls on Soehn.

Bang on Salmo. We need to form an idetity. Hopefully now that we have nothing to play for the team can take a deep breath and decide what they want to be.

DeMarit called out Soehn? Well I'm not suppried. I figured that was the case. I hope FO sides with the players over Soehn.

I think a few of them are probably busy flying home after spending hundreds of
dollars to fly out to T.O. to support the team and the others are either busy
doing stuff to keep the SG going or taking 5 minutes to have a life. Sheeesh.

many of you boys who think, with all due respect, that this was some CSA screwjob versus Vancouver need to go to the supermarket.. When there buy some Reynolds Wrap and make some tin foil helmets for yourselves.

You scored a great free kick goal, without a doubt. And anything Plata allegedly did was negated by the error from the line judge missing the goal TFC scored before the half. Cannon had a poor game. Hassli was negated by some solid play from Eckersley and Sohn was apparently bereft of anything tactically creative to get the goal you needed.

     See you next season.

  • Having Chiumiento feeding Hassli is an interesting formation that Soehn has adopted.  But if Chiumiento is injured, surely Camilo is the obvious replacement.  Playing Dunfield in that role was baffling, IMHO.

The biggest shock to me of all this is that this was arguably Vancouver's meekest Canadian Championship performance yet, despite the fact that we're now a first-division club.

Between 2008-2010, we were a D2 club, and thus weren't supposed to win the competition. Despite that, we put in very good performances.

In 2008, despite playing poorly against in-form Montreal, we did very well by getting four points out of a possible six against TFC, including handing them their first home defeat of 2008.

In 2009, we did the double over Montreal, and then beat TFC 2-0 at Swangard.  The only reason we didn't win was because of that "Miracle in Montreal" bullshit.  Who knows how far we could have gone in the Champions League that year as an in-form D2 team.

In 2010, we went undefeated, drawing in all four matches.

And then comes the MLS era in 2011, when we're no longer the division-two underdog.  On paper, we're supposed to be a favoured team, above Montreal and Edmonton.  Yet, we only scraped by an out-of-form D2 Montreal, and then fold against TFC.  For me, this was Vancouver's most disappointing performance of a Canadian Championship yet.  Teitur, Soehn, and the squad are responsible for that.

    Well said.

Slamo, on point.  Nice.  My optimism is gone, that doesn't happen often.  It's actually scary watching a Whitecaps match right now.

What do you want me to say?

    I'm gutted? I've now done 5 away games this season and I'm, 0 wins, 2 draws & 3 losses.

I've so far spent a lot of money following this team, and am committed to spending a lot more in the remaining 4 games I am going to this season.
