I love bouncy... but not the linked-arms bouncy, just the chaotic bouncy
How about something based on Dr Seuss... he's hilarious, and witty, and he doesn't curse... it's family-friendly... we could just quote him for hours on end... would be unique and slightly ironic... in an un-ironic Alannis Morrisette kind of way... we could do one of her songs too
that's all I've got... Dr Seuss... needs a tune
We could do a take on "Green Eggs and Ham" to the tune of "The Beverly HillBillys" (see this LINK)
Well I would not wear rave green, god-damn
no I would not wear it sam-i-am
... somebody carry it from here
and we could do bouncy at the same time
to the tune of Allyoh
Greeen Eggs and Ham Greeen Eggs and Ham
@ chauchi09: that would be great for cascadia cup matches... a poke at the opposition's ridiculous choice of colour
while doing bouncy... Im getting tired... off to bed
Well this is a story bout a man named Jed
poor mountaineer nearly fucked his wife dead
then one day he was shootin at some food, and up from the ground came a red head nude.
Nude that is, bare naked.
well the next thing you know, old Jeds in bed
twistin and a turnin till his cock turns red
one two three, look and see
Jed's got a mighty big family
For some reason, I remember this 40 years later. Sorry if I've offended.
lol........hav another and keep posting. needed that laugh!
Well writing reports at 1 am is not effective, so I'm giving an honest crack at some chant/song writing.

Welcome to Vancouver, BC, it’s the whitecaps you’ve come to see,
And since you’ve come out to play, I feel I have to warn you,
Cause we’re going to have to score some goals on you
Going to score some goals on you
Going to score some goals on you
Going to score some goals on you
Now I know you love to hear us sing, SouthSiders are the sweetest sounding thing
But now it’s time for you to head on your way,
Cause we’re going to have to score some goals on you
Going to score some goals on you
Going to score some goals on you
Going to score some goals on you

rockopaco said: Does anybody agree with me that songs and chants featuring cursing and derision of the opposing team and their fans are simply more fun? For instance, I love take off on the Spurs "Wenger is a pedophile" chant... makes me laugh every time. Laughing is a good thing.
Hey Rockopaco. This debate has been had, and is settled. The official position of the Vancouver Southsiders is that we do not condone swearing, our official lyrics do not contain profanity, and our capos do not use profanity when leading chants. The official position of VWFC is the same, and they do reserve the right to eject people from their events for it.
Fully agree.
I get a lot more joy from songs that are positive to our club than ones that are hateful towards others. Also, I find its easier to get the casual fan to participate in the positive ones by quite a margin.
Cheer for us.
Not against them.
I for one think it's disappointing that we are changing the song from when we get scored on from something original that we have done for year, to something doen by half the teams in the league and countless others around the world. Everyone in the Southside knows 'Ques sera sera ... No bloody Wembley', so I really dislike changing it to 'Brigth Side of Life'.
Along the same lines, I'm disappointed that our anthem, Boundary Road, isn't being sung right at kickoff on time, and has been dropped from the second half. I know some were complaining that it was being sung too much, which is valid if it is done too much. But IMO it needs to say at the start of each half. It's are tradition and our anthem.
I also am of the strong opinion that we need to stop following RCB for the nth rendition of Yankee Doodle every game. I swear last game we did it ten times ... which is way way too much.

Half the teams in MLS sing Bright Side of Life when they get scored on?

I must add that the kick off chant always makes it to the highlights, and IMO Boundary Road should be that one.

Yeah, that's new to me too. I thought it was pretty original.
Agreed with Brett and Peter re: Boundary Road. I noticed its absence on the broadcast at the start of the second half. It should be sung twice every game. It's one of the most distinctive ways for the players to know they're at home - and that's the main reason for singing.
Thirded (Fourthed?) in regards to BR. I even get sad at away viewings if we don't sing it....

Agree wholeheartedly re. Boundary Road. I could sing it 10 times per game and I'd be happy.
I agree there too. Downside is the awkward silence between anthem and kickoff. Have yet to find something to fill that void nicely. Perhaps 'Welcome to our Saturday BBQ' or 'Martin Rennie's Blue and White Army' would work. We can stop those at any time and move on to Boundary Road quite easily.
I think Martin Rennie's Blue and White Army is perfect for that void.
Much like @JohnnieMonster did during the march with it starting slow and gaining tempo as it goes. I think it helped to hold attention that way.
Que sera, sera has tradition, but it just rings so hollow to me at times. The gist of the song is, essentially: we aren't playing on the grandest stage, so who gives a toss.
I've always thought We Shall Not Be Moved would be a good one.

It's also nothing to do with Canadian football. Many chants transfer well from one country to another, but this one doesn't.
I've always thought We Shall Not Be Moved would be a good one.
That it is.
This thread is starting to make me feel nostalgic. We should change the name to "Southside MLS" because this has really no similarity to the Southsiders other than a group of guys cheering the Caps. Que Sera is a song of legend and folklore. Might be my single favourite media moment in Vancouver history.

It was an awesome moment in Whitecaps History for me. One I'll never forget so it doesn't ring "hollow" to me.
We shall not be moved is also good though, and at times in the past we have sung it after the opposition scores.

Oh I know it's a great quote, but Teitur didn't just get scored on when he made that quote, did he? I think he was commenting on the state of the pitch, though it was before my time. The song essentially says "we don't care that we just got scored on because the game's not big enough to matter." That's why it rings hollow to me: I don't honestly believe what we're saying when we sing that song.
And I don't actually want to burn the Timbers players or organization, but I still sing the bonfire song.
Do any of the other clubs do individual player songs?
I just haven't heard it on the broadcasts if they do.
I'm pretty sure they do, but they just don't make it on to the broadcasts because they don't get taken up by everyone.
Que Sera Sera should remain our tune when scored upon.
With respect to Chris, I don't interpret it the same way he does:
The song essentially says "we don't care that we just got scored on because the game's not big enough to matter."
I instead take it as a jab at the celebrating opposition to remind them that they're not quite as important as they think they are... as in "Yeah, fucking get on with it. It's not like you've just scored at Wembley!"
Another thought: Why not use "Bright Side of Life" when we score on the opposition? That would come off like a proper piss-take if you ask me!

--- ah, that's better. This is the original post:
Ok, so this isn't necessarily "new" chant ideas per say, so if it belongs somewhere else, please feel free to move it, but I do have a few "new" ideas for existing chants and suggestions. I was at the Portland Game last weekend, so some of these came from there. Appologies in advance for the length of the post.
I also hope my opinions here don't piss anyone off; I'm offering them in the interest of helping, and mean no offence. Just one man's opinion. So......
1) - I think it was the Curva Collective that was about half way up the stands in Portland? Whoever it was, they had a chant, "Tonight". Any of you there know the chant I mean. My opinion? It was one of the best chants I've heard. Catchy, easy to sing along to, and had a great energy. Anyway we can adopt that? I think it would be amazing to have the entire southside singing that.
2) - Again, the Curva Collective (?), had a drummer that (no offense intended, just constructive critiscm) could actually drum. I love that we (Southsiders) have someone who volunteers to do it for us, but I find that half the time (if not more), he's a hinderance rather than a help. I don't think it's because he can't drum, but I think it's because he doesn't normally start the beat with the start of a chant, he just picks up once a song as started. The problem with this is if there are out of sync groups singing the song (which we all know happens often), the drumming further screws it up, and in some cases I've seen it kill a chant completely. Not saying we should get rid of the drummer, just an area I think needs work.
3) - I really, really, really think we should ditch the "Yankee Doodle" humming song, or at least cut the humming. The Whitecaps call and return part, while fine, can at times sound like we're calling Wanker, and the humming is just awful. No offence to however came up with it, but I think we sound retarded when we do it. At the very least cut the humming in half; we don't need to do the ENTIRE tune of Yankee Doodle do we?
4) - We need to do more of the simple chants; "Martin Rennies Blue & White Army", "We're Blue, We're White" and other simple ones like that. More people join in if it's simple, and we don't do those ones very often anymore.
5) - I don't know what Chant the Timbers Army was doing, but they were all bouncing to the left (travelling maybe 10 seats?), then they'd stop and come bouncing back to the right. It looked freaking AWESOME; made me think of Space Invaders. I know it'd be a lot of work to coordinate, but I'd love to see us work on something like that.
6) - I love the Capo's, and I have nothing but respect for the sacrifice you make to lead us, but we need more. I know it's a volunteer position, and if no-one volunteers nothing can be done, but I officially volunteer. At BC Place we need more Capo's halfway up the seats. Our tickets are in Row K, and we always seem to be at the cusp of where the chants seem to seperate into different timing. I will gladly spend my time trying to help keep everyone on one beat, but we'll have to work out how I (or anyone else trying to help) knows which song the Capo's are doing.
7) - The Tmber Army (and I've seen others as well) had raised platforms their Cap's where on. I know this is something that would have to be OK'd by the FO, but i really think that would hep. It would make the Capo's more visible and probably easier to hear.
Anyway, there's my two bits. Feel free to fire at will.
^^
Ahhh the bold hurts my eyes
We dont need more capo's we need people to actually follow the capo's we do have.
The timbers army bouncing chant is called "tetris" you can look it up on youtube.
We have a tonne of simple chants already, it really cant be that hard for everyone to learn a more complicated one. I love the Irish "fields of athenry" but obviously would be bad form to copy the tune/song.
In the end it really just comes down to passion. Not enough people have it yet.

We do. It's been around for a couple years, and the Southside sing it fairly regularly.

Totally agree. I really dislike the do-dooing. Sounds horrible.

We're Blue, We're White is started and sung so often already. I totally disagree, we do not need more of it. I wish it would go away. Other simple chants, sure.

This is a BC Place/Whitecaps issue. Probably not going to happen anytime soon, though we'll be meeting with the club over the next few months to discuss next season.
1) I do like this chant. I don't think it would sound as good if we did it because...
2) Massimo is an excellent drummer, and the bass drum makes all the difference to a lot of chants.
3) Get out of my mind.
4) I agree we need a balance. We're blue, we're white is absolutely loathed by the FO, so we risk repercussions by doing that one more.
5) Tetris, not Space Invaders.
6) Talk to @piltdownman and @ajax79 about helping out capoing. We can't get you on the field this year, but we may be able to work out something else if you're into it.
7) BC Place's front row is almost pitch level, so we can't really erect a platform without obstructing people's views.
64Chevelle, if you want to be a capo helper "in the stands" then be my guest. All that I ask is that you read off what we are doing in the front and help carry those songs/chants and not try to take matters into your own hands so to speak since there are too many of those already. If you're at the next match come down to the front before kick off for a quick chat.
Cheers!!!
Great responses, thanks guys. I suspected the FO might not be a fan of We're Blue, We're white.... oh well. As for "Tonight", I don't recall hearing it yet; guess I missed it. Really loved it though, and now that I know it, I will definetly belt it out next time I hear it. It kinda seems like the dislike of the Yankee-Doodle humming may not just be me, perhaps we should consider phasing it out?
Ajax79, I will come talk to you next game; I'm a season ticket holder so I'm at them all. Proud to say I haven't missed one yet. I've been trying (slowly) to help carry the chants (above the head clapping in time, picking up the chant as soon as I hear it), but I haven't gone full-on yet and turned around. Maybe I'll try that for next game.
Anyway, good job to everyone, and I know that "we'll get there"... just a little impatient. :-w

Ah, sorry, that's a mistake on my part. I thought you meant Come on Vancouver, etc, supporting you tonight. I'm guessing you mean the Ton-i-i-ii-ight, we are Ca-a-a-a-aps. So we'll set the pitch on fire, etc.
That's the Smapti, to the tune of Fun's We Are Young. Great stuff. No need for us to copy it, though, unless we could coordinate.

Different song. "The Smapti" was first introduced at a U18 game in February of 2012 based on a song released in September 2011. It has since been sung at the conclusion of every Home Game and most away games this season. It is not only the most kick ass soccer chant EVER it is also completely unique or, at very least, originated with the Whitecaps.
