Late march time = more drinking. I like that for mid week games

I really liked the 8pm start time vs NYRB. I hope to see more of that next season.

Fully agree. I thought we'd get that vs RSL but whatever, i mean I'm going to be at Doolins most of the day anyways so what do I care
Really wonder what not having Mattocks & Richards will mean to our attacking options.

Expect Kenny Miller to get his first start, paired with Camilo.
Im thinking harris to replace richards, Miller to replace Mattocks, and Thorrington to replace koffie.
But is Harris good to go? He's always a big question mark. You would think that if Harris was intended to start on Wednesday, then Rennie would have used him as a late substitute on Saturday, if only to check on his readiness.
Ive heard that he is ready to go and that he probably will play Wednesday. We will see.

That may have been in the cards, but then ran out of subs with the injury to D6Merit?
Surprisingly little interest in this game. Big game for us. Dallas are on a mini-tear, and 3pts for us at this point will do wonders for our standing in the Western Conference, and leave us well-positioned heading into the Seattle game.

Lots of interest for me! I just don't want to be that guy posting 10003 times a day.

It's a huge game and a real test of our depth with some real key players out. Pretty nervous about it to be honest.
The Caps are honouring a couple of the CanWNT ladies, likely pre-match. Would be nice to have bums in seats for that, at least in the Southside. 6:15 march might hinder that.
As for the match itself, it seems like everyone is looking ahead to Seattle, and forgot about this game altogether. I agree with PrawnsideFC re: replacements. Harris is good to go and they were trying him out on the wing at training a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if that is still the case, but it wouldn't be crazy to think he'd slot in for Richards.
They should honour the players during half-time.
They should honour the players during the 12th minute.
TTP
Whitecaps NASL Alumni Night as well.

You're going to see a slower attack, though with Miller in there, he'll make dashing runs and should be able to finish his chances. As for Dane Richards, we'll miss his pace immensely and it'll be noticeable. Luckily Dallas are missing a couple of important players as well.
The Whitecaps will be wearing their third kit (the so-called Arbutus Brown) for tomorrow's match
Are we doing a Tifo for the girls again? Now that they are in town....
Our darling Valentine's blog has me over the top excited for tonight!
http://www.whitecapsfc.com/blog/two-one/2012/08/14/two-one-just-old-times
Over 70 Whitecaps alums in the house!
So, with O'Brien, Thorrington, Harris, and Miller looking to be likely candidates to start tonight due to International Duty, Injury, Yellow Card Accumulation... who do you think will make up the subs, and which 3 do you think are most likely to get some time on the field?
As much as we trash MLS this schedule has worked out because every game we have been playing recently and every game left will be important in one way or another.
A few thoughts.
1.) I have always though that Dallas is a dirty/whiny team. 2.) A win in this game essentially ends any hope of Dallas catching us. 3.) Will be interesting to see how O'Brien looks in his first full match. 4.) It is awesome when there is home footie twice in a week!

If I'm doing the math right, we're down to 20 available guys, one of whom is a No.3 keeper. That means only one available player to NOT make the 18. I'd guess that's probably Caleb Clarke.
Except we are short on forwards so Clarke would seem obvious for the bench. I also would expect Miller to not play 90 minutes.
When I figure it out though, this is how many player we have available:
Cannon Lee - O'Brien - Bonjour - Rochat JMD - Thor - Robbo Harris Camilo Miller
Bench : Knighton, Harvey, Klazura, Watson,Nanchoff, Alderson, Clarke,
Only Sylvestre would be left off the roster.
Given that O'Brien played very well on Saturday but is still a bit of a fitness and readiness question mark, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Mitchell make the bench just in case. But it would probably be at Alderson's expense rather than Clarke for the reasons fourfourtwo mentions.
Mitchell is away on international duty, no?
the_old_one_two said: Mitchell is away on international duty, no?
I was operating under this impression as well.
Quite right; I'm a failure.
Which begs an interesting question. Who is the emergency CB.
Rochat would be primary cover and then would it be Harvey, JMD or Robson?
This is essentially what I was wondering - we have a pretty solid starting line, but what sort of cover in the event of an injury, or for regular or fitness-related subs...
I would imagine that at some point nano comes on for miller and then camilo or harris would move forward. Would love a big lead to blood the youngsters.
CB cover would be Rochat over and Harvey in. If (flying spaghetti monster forbid) Rochat is hurt... well I'll bring my cleats tonight.

I think you're right. I kept getting 19 or 20, was trying to subtract, rather than simply counting who was available.
And I wondered about Clarke filling the forward spot, but Harris and Camillo could both slide into the middle, and Harvey, Nanchoff and Robson could all play one of the wide slots, so I kept Alderson in ahead of him.

I did that the other day b-(

Harvey has started a few Reserves matches in the middle. Performed decently I suppose, but nothing I wish to see in a 1st team match.

Rochat is not as strong in the middle as he is on the flank, but he's the best option available to us.

I agree. I was just talking about the hypothetical situations where we would be forced into an emergency beyond just deploying Rochat.
Jun Marques Davidson can be a little nervous at times and therefore makes mistakes (falls asleep and loses his mark or makes a bad pass for example), Harvey has limited time at center back and Barry Robson to me is a player better suited in a box to box role.
Luckily this is only for one game or else we'd be pretty screwed.
Anyone have insider info on which alumni will be there? Any chance of a Willie Johnston appearance?
Every single analyst on the MLSSoccer.com Pick 'Em list have predicted Whitecaps to win tonight:

Tonight defninately qualifies as a potential banana peel bookended by big games against our closest rivals in the table.
I wouldn't expect too many subs no matter who is on the bench. Rennie rarely makes subs when he has a deep bench nevermind when he has a thin one.
Fynnsky said: Anyone have insider info on which alumni will be there? Any chance of a Willie Johnston appearance?
I don't think they flew guys in; it may just be people who live locally. Not 100% sure though.
Anyone know what time this is happening?

I've seen this mentioned a few times, but the devils advocate position is that all these games would be just as important in a single table plus we wouldn't have been able to essentially go "well at least that game against Chicago wasn't that important."
While I'd really like a win, want a win, and think we are a stronger team than Dallas, the last game they played us tough, and we have lots of players out from the 11 and 18. I'd also be somewhat satisfied with a tie although it makes getting into 3rd much harder considering games in hand.
I agree with single table too. However there is something to say about playing teams you hate week in week out instead of Columbus and Houston and the dregs of the east.

On the video interview on the VWFC site, Lenarduzzi mentions the first NASL goal scorer for Whitecaps, Neil Ellet. Like most of the 74 team, he was Canadian. He mentioned Andrea Neill and a few 00s players like 'Beef' Alfredo Valente; expect a bunch of players from that vintage and era.
This is great to do. Now the team needs to do it annually, and fly in one big name from 74-84 (like Johnston, or Whymark, etc) every year.

I feel uneasy when they do that - I'm very surprised that they also gave a clean sweep for TFC - they're playing the Timbers, but TFC has been hit -like the Caps- by international call-ups and injuries. The game is on TSN at 4:30 and I'll be watching to see if Eric can improve on his play that he showed against Chicago.
