Yep. Pretty much a big forward for TFC so they don't have to learn a whole new strategy just when they got this one figured out. He'll be back in Europe somewhere next year. Better for him.
TFC has CCL to play for, which is why they needed to get Hassli, even if they risk losing him at the end of the year.
If Eric came back at the end of the year, it would be amazing! Seems a bit unlikely, given how upset he was about how we has informed of the trade.
FC Zurich initially had Davide listed as being number 29 then switched him to 20. Coincidence? Smiley face scratching chin.
It is possible that he could re-sign with the Whitecaps and it would be a big slap in the face for TFC fans but it won't happen.
http://youtu.be/1d8oqIXtjdo How this trade feels.

This doesn't make sense to me, at least in MLS Hassli would get some decent minutes. In Europe? Hassli would be a bench lifer. I agree with Lord_Lord in that the Caps may have just dumped the DP status and try and get him back next season at a bargain.

Would his attitude, skill set and effort have changed?
He still would be third or fourth choice, no?
Would he really come for $300,000 which is 1/3rd of his 2011 salary ( which he is unlikely to accept).
Why would whitecaps pay even say $200,000 for a one dimensional player who wouldn't even be a primary backup?
Am I missing something?

wow...thats a little quick TFC

if he came back it would be as a depth striker at a bargain price, thats all.
With the news of a contract extension and the fact that TFC play the Traditional 4-4-2 I think Eric will do very well in Toronto.
I will miss him, didn't he say somewhere that he would never play against the Caps?

Maybe he'll "pull a Beckham" and make sure he's suspended for all the games gainst us!
Not such a reach given his record or drawing cards

Why wouldn't he be in the 18? He can't possibly be out of game shape already.
i think he might be back in town. called my sister today to book a spa appointment for his wife in langley
Nice to see Hassli pick up a goal tonight. He was my favourite player, but I think it was best for the team to trade him. Hope he pops in a few more for Toronto f.c.

yeah I wish him nothing but the best. Good to see him get play time and his name on the score sheet.
Involved in both TFC goals. Scores one and an assist on the other. Well done Eric!
Hassli hoping Toronto FC return in the cards next season
Sounds like Hassli's future in Toronto is possibly up in the air?
Eric Hassli said he is happy with life in Toronto, he likes head coach Paul Mariner and hopes to return next season.
Now the ball’s in TFC’s court.
“I think we’re closer to a final decision,” director of team and player operations Earl Cochrane told MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday. “But because we don’t have to make a final decision today means that we can still mull it over for maybe a week to 10 days.”
The team has a club option for Hassli’s services for next season.
good for him, but I dont think Hassli is the answer for Toronto at all...
wouldn't be surprised to hear that TFC and Hassli part ways. I think, though, some other MLS club probably picks up his services. He's still a good player. Has flashes of brilliance, unfortunately, wildly inconsistent.

If it was any other club then yes they would make that logical decision...but by all accounts I believe TFC do want to keep him.
If they pick up his option, though, that would give them 3 DPs, with Frings and Koevermans. They may not want to pay the luxury tax.
On soccer central, Gerry Dobson asked if Mariner had the budget to be able to get all the players he wants with the waning attendance figures. Mariner didn't exactly give a straight answer, just said Koevermans and Frings are recovering and the will have a sit down with Hassli.
Looks like the big man will be back in Red next season.
Kurtis Larson @KurtLarSUN
CONFIRMED: Eric Hassli will be back with TFC as a DP to start 2013.
Anyone know what Koevermans' timetable for return is? I thought most people thought that TFC needed a replacement striker for 1.5 yrs...
Anyway, I'm still kind of choked that Hassli got shipped to TFC, but still wish him luck. Just not in our one game against them. Or in the V's Cup. :D
No idea on Koeverman...
I agree 100% with your sentiments on Hassli.
Fortunately, Toronto will visit Vancouver at least once in 2013, so hopefully we'll see him play, score a goal, be subbed off, and then have the Whitecaps win the match.
Fuck that. I love the guy, but he can score 20 against the rest of the league and leave us alone. If he plays against us I hope he reprises his "sit on the pitch and wave his arms at the officials for 10 minutes" act.
With all the changes that have been made in the FO at TFC so far since Payne was brought in...
Peter Schaad @PeteSchaad
Paul Mariner was never lasting at #TFC under a new regime. Spells trouble for a certain striker who was signed before Kevin Payne's hiring.
"Hassli hates Toronto, and everything about it"
I always liked that guy ... now I know why! :-))
The fun continues at TFC!
What to make of Hassli http://www.canadiansoccernews.com/content.php?4099-What-to-make-of-Hassli
Who doesn't want out of TFC??? Seriously!
Speaking of TFC and Hassli. Assuming he's on the pitch on opening night, do we chant "Er-ic Hass-li" because we love him? or do we hold off because he's on the wrong team?
The second one.
Although I'm all for giving him a little cheer before or after the game.

Should have clarified, but yes I meant before/after the game. What aboot if he's a sub mid-game?

Ummm nope.
Guarrantee he doesn't celebrate if he scores against us, be classy and return the favour. He has provided some of the greatest Whitecap memories ever, not just in the MLS, but all time. Despite his faults he's a big part of our history, respect it.
Yah, I'm looking forward to giving him a short cheer, be it before, mid (if he subs) or after the game. That's if he is even with TFC.
How about instead of "wanker", we do the chant for his name?
I have nothing but respect for Hassli. I'd welcome him back to our team in a second. I'm just not gonna cheer a Toronto player once the game is on. Maybe when he walks off after warmups.
I agree with Chris. I support the caps, not players on the other team.
