Yeah, but that was only one goal. He was not scoring since last august and at the end of the day he was judged by that. A fresh team might do him some good. Something has to be coming if they got another int. spot for him.

We get it Rennie: YOU HAVE GIGANTIC GAELIC BALLS UNDER YOUR KILT.

Ship Valentine out to Portland for allocation money and bring in Ally McCoist while you`re at it.

WTH he had a no movement clause? I guess getting benched was a good way to push him out the door. As well as get rid of his french buddy in Le Toux and Davide as well. Out with the old in with the new. What I don't understand is why do it midseason when it is so disruptive to both the team and the fans?

A note to all you kids out there; Don't bother getting names put on the back of your kits/shirts as this club seems to like to dump players rather quickly.

To be fair he stuck around a long time for a player who was generally performing very badly of late. He just didn't seem to grow with the team.

It's a shame for sure. Sunday will be a bit strange.

He was being benched far too often and you have to realize that on the tail end of last year we were being coached by Soehn. Lots of experimenting and tinkering and no service and players being played out of position. I agree that strikers are judged on their goals but you gotta admit he wasn't being given a chance to prove himself at all this season. Count the minutes!!!

Rennie is finally getting to see what he really has in all the players he kept around. If this was Rennies 3rd or 4th year with the team I wouldn't like the midseason moves, but given that he is still building the team I'll give this one a pass

What is wrong with us? Making these crazy knee-jerk reactions for minimal returns in trade? Tearing down a successful team, shipping out popular players left, right, and centre so we can bring in more Scottish guys? What's going on? The team's doing well! Hassli was a beloved player in a slump; whoop-de-doo, if we're going to trade everybody whose shooting percentage goes in the tank for 900 minutes then we're going to run out of fucking players.

Unless somebody properly excellent and necessary is coming over - and I definitely do not mean Carlos Bocanegra - this trade is indefensible.

Maybe he'll fit better in to TFCs system, because he certainly wasn't fitting in to ours anymore. I'm sure he'll score at least one goal that will leave fans in a fury and questioning management's sanity on this trade, but I wouldn't be shocked if he disappeared as well.

Hassli was no longer a starter and has 2 goals on a DP ticket. You may not like it but there is a reasonable case this was a good move. To say it is indefensible is a lot when it can be defended based on his production . And will look better when they replace that DP spot with someone else.

This is part of a big plan revuilding. Nothing knee jerk about it.

If Rennie had made the decision that Hassli would be the #4 choice striker behind Mattocks, Miller, and Camilo (and with Caleb Clarke and Omar Salgado as depth options in the medium term future,) and that they would end up cutting him in the off season anyway (by not renewing his contract,) what he's done is he's got SOMETHING for what would have just walked away in the off season.

If Rennie is already in discussions to sign another DP, be it Boca or anyone else, he's improving his immediate squad.

I'm gutted by the trade, but I completely understand it, and I'm shocked that you don't at least acknowledge that a player who is a better fit in a position of need could come in and be more productive for our squad.

It would see knee jerk to somebody who's avatar references Teitur Tots ;)

    I jest of course.

  • Not surprised to see this but sad to hear. Eric was a class guy with the fans.

Happy that he'll be able to get the playing time he clearly wasn't getting here. It's too bad his price tag was too expensive to justify his super sub role. Any ideas as to how he'll do under Mariner's 4-4-2? Is it similar to the way Teitur played the formation? Seemed he was most successful with TT.

Robson will negate that . I was out today and had on my caps hoodie, and more than one person asked me about Robson. None of them were caps fans yet.

  • As much as I like Hassli, this is a very good piece of business that could pay off at the draft. With the Philly deal and this one, we could be sitting 1 & 2 at draft time.

Rennie was brought in to build the team long term, and he has the responsibility to build it in his image. In the end, he's the one who earn the plaudits or take the fall for the results. I really doubt he's done making moves.

Mate there is nothing dubious about Miller, Robson or Richards. Much as I like Hassli as a person the terms 'dubious value' applied most to his DP role and salary.

There is about Richards. He might come through, but if that trade wasn't needed to get allocation money, it's a bad deal - LeToux out of position might still provide more than Richards.

Not trying to sound like an ass - but this isn't the NHL. Moving a player for their DP/INT spot is value in itself. If Rennie brings in a player like Bocanegra as a result of this trade it's brilliant in my opinion.

The 'Caps are committed to making their club a top one - this is what it takes. Time to get used to it.

  • People, just like the Kenny Miller addition, can we wait and see what happens? If we end up becoming a better team, we'll say this was a successful move and all of the criticism will be forgotten. If it fails, then we can bring this up again, give it time.

I agree that this trade needed to happen. Hassli was not producing this year, and the salary hit was just too big.

However, I wish that he could have played out the year. Assuming that Mattocks and Miller are the normal starting strikers, this trade leaves only Camilo (underperforming) and Barbara (never used) available as substitutes, at least until Salgado (still not starter material) and Harris (injury-prone) are back.

When he's our top paid player, isn't producing anymore and racks in yellow cards and complaints to the referee and doesn't fit in the system, it's time for him to go. Not every player who has a drought gets big money. If Darren Mattocks were to go 900 minutes without a goal, it wouldn't be so bad because he has smaller wages and is still young.

I love Eric Hassli, I remember watching highlight clips of him on YouTube after our first game and reading everything about him because I was instantly hooked. I'll miss him, but it was probably the correct move in my opinion.

  • Best for all I feel. I love the Big Man but he needed a fresh challenge.

With the Miller signing, Atiba Harris close to returning, Mattocks developing and with Camilo/Barbara able to play up front, plus Salgado to return we still have plenty of cover up front. The money and DP/ International spot he had didn't warrant the results of the last few months.
