Rogers has bought out the remaining stake in Setanta Canada and are rebranding the channel to Sportsnet World. Looks like they'll be moving IPL Cricket over there. Shouldn't affect their EPL coverage.

Wasn't sure where to post this so I dug up this old thread.
Just a heads up for those who subscribe to Sportsnet World, there is a new daily soccer show starting tonight at 8pm. Essentially sounds like this picks up where Fox Soccer Report left off - comprehensive coverage and highlights from around the world. It will be branded Soccer Central in Canada and they will also produce a version for American market called Fox Soccer News. Brendan Dunlop to host, but there will be some other familiar faces including Bobby McMahon, Colin Miller and Kara Lang.
If you don't have Sportsnet World, I have heard that Sportsnet will also replay the show a few hours later.
I have really missed Fox Soccer Report since it's been off the air, as it was a great one stop shop to get highlights and news from so many leagues and they had great Champions League coverage too. Sounds like this will be just as good if not better, with the bonus of watching highlights in HD.

Are they doing the usual free month of SNetW this year? Anyone heard?

I too miss FSR for that fix, however, I got really disheartened as the last few months I would say at least 50% of their footage appeared to be lo-res internet footage or some pap. Awful. I wonder if their clips will be truly in HD.
According to Shaw's website it's $17 a month. Has anyone picked it up before, is it really worth it?
I had it for a while and dropped it.

SNW gets huge EPL, FA & League Cup matches. They also have the Championship & SPL, along with a lot of rugby & cricket.
There's a lot of football on tv these days, but if you follow a single team, it's great! If you don't really care what EPL match you watch on a Saturday morning, TSN2 & SNP might be enough.

That depends on how much you value some teams over others. I find that between the TSN and basic Sportsnet channels, you do get a whole lot of EPL coverage on a Saturday morning. However, some of the bigger matchups and derbys between top 5-6 teams along with almost all of the Sunday/Monday games are only picked up by Sportsnet World. Also, good coverage of Champions League and FA Cup too.

Not when they don't offer HD, at least in my area.
Just heard that The Score is dropping Serie A thanks to Al Jazeera hogging all of the rights. I sure hope Rogers offers an Al Jazeera sports package so I can watch Italy, Spain and France next year when I'm in Toronto.
I'm going to call in after work to get this hooked up and drop the other sports package that I never watch. I was however wondering how their coverage of the Championship is .

Champions League gets great coverage on Sportsnet normal and TSN.
I've dropped Setenata/sportsnet world and picked up the full sportsnet ?tsn package with bell and it gives me more than enough games. Now I don't have too much time with kids etc. but I can get every whitecaps/canucks game including those on sportsnet.one and saved myself a few bucks a month.

You're right about CL games Brenton, particularly by the time the knockout rounds begin. Although, I can't remember if all the play-in and early group stage games get picked up by SN regular and TSN too.

Very little live Championship football. You'll get a fair number of replays, but it's by no means comprehensive. It's usually used as filler in the evenings.
They had a Live Championship match today. But it's sporadic...normally last moment scheduling when they don't have any other live football. If you follow their FB page, they give you a heads up when they drop it in.
Live Championship game on Friday's when its and evening kick-off in the UK. Also, early morning live games...as in tomorrow @ 0445 when they will be showing Leeds Utd v Wolves. Gonna be a long day for me with the trip down the I5 to follow..... :D

I'm almost certain that TSN doesn't have the rights to Champions League anymore, I think Sportsnet got them all a year ago.
Huh, thought I watched Champions League on TSN this spring.
I have to see how this season goes. Setanta used to carry all the United games. Since becoming Sportsnet World, United more often then not is on Sportsnet or Sportsnet One which I already get.
The only pertinent question is, will it be HD?

Shaw has it in HD for most urban areas. If it is not in your area yet, it will be soon. HD is included in the cost of SNW. You will need to have one of the newer HD DCTs as it`s broadcast in MPEG-4.
SN World has just added the Chelsea-Reading match on Wednesday. Another good reason to have it is if you want to see mid-week EPL matches.

Hard to say where Canada fits in for some of those (like seria a & liga)

I would guess that it will be available in HD in the fall with Shaw and Shaw Direct. A new satellite will be launched that will offer an extra 100 HD channels. My dish was just updated in preparation for the new satellite, and the installer was telling me about it.

Very useful..thanks! I'm changing the thread title now to Live Football on TV
I hate making zombie threads, but making a new thread for this seemed excessive...
Who here on Shaw actually HAS Sportsnet World in HD?
From what I can tell, it was launched in March... bought the new Shaw DCX3510-M PVR for the new HD guide, more recording space, and for the MPEG4 ability so I can finally pony up for the channel.
Get the new PVR set up, get the channel ordered. Nothing. GF gets ahold of Shaw a day later, they force it through... and i'm only getting the SD feed. Go on live chat with a Shaw rep tonight, and apparently the HD feed isn't available in my area yet? Would have been nice if they told us that when we signed up, or when called back when it didn't work...
It's not like i'm out in the sticks... (in the most densely populated part of Port Moody!) The rep didn't have an ETA as to when it would be available, just 'sometime inside the next 3 months when the hub is upgraded'.
Is this a problem for anyone else?
North Van has it, but had to get the new pvr
This is about the fourth game I've seen on Seattle's Fox station. Good for them for the coverage! I do not watch this station as much as King, Komo or Kiro which are heavy on the news starting at 430 am every morning...weekdays anyways, not sure bout weekends.
Hey Casper,
Shaw is in the late stages of a massive digital network upgrade. It's been finished in most of metro Vancouver, but there are still places they haven't gotten into yet. I know they want to be finished within a few months. I know it's not the answer you want, but it's the answer.
As you have the new DCX3510-M PVR, it will automatically turn to the HD version of the channel when its available.

That's a nice feature. I'm always having to switch the station over when the wife has selected standard def.
On another issue: They're advertising that the Sportsnet World Online service is included with your subscription on cable. It appears as though that only applies if you subscribe through Rogers. Anyone know if Telus is going to offer it, or is that a sponsorship thing and I'm sunk?

All the previous ones on the main Fox network were Premier League games or the Champs League final. So it is the first FA Cup match. They had a promo saying they would be showing the FA Cup final, don't know if there will be anything in between.

I'm on telus. I simply removed the SD duplicate channels from my menu. Takes a bit of time, but I only view SD channels when there isn't a corresponding HD version.
With the new Shaw PVR it'll either default to having all of the channels in numerical order, with the HD feeds showing up over top of the SD ones in the same lower-numbered channels, or (the way I have it) you can have all of the HD channels show up in numerical order first, followed by all of the SD channels in order.
