I'll nominate @capsfanhabsfan aka Shayne Grimmer for one of these positions. He has pitched in with capo duties for a while now, and has been talking with Marisa for a few months about taking over as director of stadium operations. He's an enthusiastic volunteer and will be an asset on next year's board.

    Shayne's member number is 1727.

  • Thanks Peter, I'm pleased to accept the nomination. The election rules require nominees to make a brief statement, so here goes:

I've been involved with the Southsiders since our earliest days at Swangard, and I am a member of the Cascadia Cup Founder's Circle. I have previously served two terms as our group's president, and three terms as our Director of External Communications. I have also been involved with our Charitable Causes Committee and other assorted shenanigans.

I believe the Southsiders have a critical role to play in terms of keeping the Whitecaps organization honest and accountable in matters impacting supporters and supporters culture. I've been a part of a lot of successful struggles over the years to keep things moving in the right direction so that we can make the most of our match day experiences home and away. It hasn't always been easy, but it has always been worth it.

There is a lot of work to be done in 2017 to revitalize our membership, and to encourage engagement and participation. I think our group is at somewhat of a crossroads with its identity, and we (the entire membership) need to give some serious thought about what we are all prepared to do in order to get more out of it.

If you would like to discuss any issues or concerns, please contact me here through the forum or message me on Twitter: @johnniemonster

To comment on my nomination: I'm still considering if I'll be willing and able to serve on the board next year, or rather be a volunteer on one or more of the committees directed by others.

There are a few things that supporters have been working towards with the club that still need ongoing attention (in particular, establishment of an official general admission section for supporters as well as ongoing discussions about rigging tifo both large and small scale), but I'm certain others could carry those things forward.

So thanks for the nomination. I'm still thinking a lot about what I see myself doing next year.

  • Thank you Peter for your kind words. I'm happy to accept the nomination.

For those of you who don't know me, I've been involved with the Southsiders since 2013. I've previously run for the board as Director of Events and feel I have a lot to contribute when it comes to that particular aspect of this group. I have an extensive background in administration and have worked with several charities either during or shortly after becoming a government recognized organization. Additionally, I have spent the last few years growing my network of connections, which I feel will benefit the Southsiders membership immensely in terms of planning events and initiating new partnerships.

I agree with @JohnnieMonster that there is much work to be done to breathe new life into the organization and this category is stacked with exactly the right nominees to make 2017 one of the best yet. I am happy to lend a hand wherever needed as a Member at Large, look forward to getting some fun new events planned next year and will seek out any advice our outgoing Director of Events and Partnerships, Rob Wheeler, on existing and potential partnerships.

If you have any questions or ideas for the 2017 season, please feel free to contact me through the forum or message me on Twitter: @aarynvivian
