This a a 100% voluntary thread where members can post there name and/or what they do/skillset.

The reason for this is two fold. Firstly, it allows the group to see what skills might be useful for the Southside. Secondly, it allows southsiders to take their business to other southsiders.

So for example if the southside needs an accountant and their is one in our membership we can hopefully use there services. Or in the second case if I need a bike, I know what southsider to talk to.

You may also add your picture if you feel comfortable.

Please only post for yourself. Do not post other users; however, if you have a child/parent/spouse that does not post here and you would like to add that info to your profile please feel free to do so, but no names of those people please.

This thread is except from the letter of the law of the Advertising & Solicitation board rules; however, we ask that you do not post an ad, and graphic ads are strictly prohibited.

This thread is a directory, it is not for comments, congratulations or commentary. This is not the place for people to add funny jokes about what skills other southsiders have or comments about how well any southsider does their job (good or bad). These comments will be deleted.  Welcome messages may also be deleted; although, the moderators will likely allow them to stay around for a week or two before they are deleted.

Hello my name is Brett. I'm a Software Developer and have been involved with the southside since 2004.

I have to admit the reason I started going to whitecaps matches was to get priority tickets for Manchester United in Seattle. I spend a year in bronze before joining the southside. In my time with the Southside I have a couple 'claims to fame': I was the guy who bought the 'Red Patch Plastics' blow up dolls; I was the one who got Swine Flu on an away trip in Portland; I am the one who has sewn most of our large tifo items: and I was the guy who lived in Victoria and 'commuted' to USL games for 5 years.

I have a degree in Computer Science and mathematics from the University of Victoria. I use to work in the field of airborne surveillance and intelligence, leading image acquisition and data processing projects. I now run my own operation writing applications for mobiles.

I now live in Burnaby and am very excited for the 2011 season.

  • Hello everyone.

I'm Chris, I live and work in North Vancouver at Cam Clark Ford Lincoln in the exciting world of finance.

My first memorable big game was as a 10 year old standing on my Dad's shoulders watching the historic 5th round FA Cup match between Colchester Utd and Leeds Utd in February 1971 ( Don Revies Leeds were the reigning league champions and had a team of international players) which Colchester won 3-2.

I had been to Stamford Bridge when I was 7 or 8 for a game v Spurs, but I can't remember too much about that one.

For a while I was a regular with my boarding school, at Elm Park, the home of Reading FC, who used to play most of their home games on Friday night. They ironically had a prolific striker called Robin Friday at the time. This is probably how I got the football bug.

When I was home for the holidays I still wanted to go to games and a friend of my Dad's and his son were season ticket holders at Ipswich so I tagged along and got hooked.

From about 1974 in the days when Ipswich were a "top four" club and were in Europe most seasons going to Portman Road and playing the likes of Leeds, Liverpool, Arsenal, and European teams like Barcelona to capacity crowds, was the norm. Going to Ipswich became my religion, as did, travelling to the vast majority of away games both in the UK and Europe

When I emigrated to Canada in 2000, I still had the football bug and wanted to see top quality professional football. I had seen the Whitecaps at Empire in 1981. So I bought a ticket for the 86'ers at Swangard and sat in the grandstand for a few games. I was unaware that you could move round the stadium freely, but at one half time I strolled round to the Southside and bumped into one of my co-workers Kapt W. He told me that I was able to stand behind the goal and I have been in the Southside ever since.

  • Hi I'm Johnnie, and I'm a private investigator. If you suspect an opposing player is a diving, cheating bastard, I'l get to the bottom of it!

Prior to this I was a newspaper reporter, and also worked in PR for the provincial gov't.  As such, media relations is something I have a pretty good handle on.

I've been a Southsider since the middle of the 1999 season (our founding year), although my support for Vancouver goes back much, much further.

I was recently elected to the executive board to serve as its director of external communications, and I've just been appointed to my second term as president. I'm very grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way as a result of football and supporters culture, and even more grateful for the friends I've made along the way.

Don't hesitate to contact me to about any Southsiders / Whitecaps matters which might be on your mind. Cheers!

  • Hi there everyone.

My name is James.  I'm a Realtor and partner in the Carpenter Real Estate Group working out of RE/MAX Select Properties Vancouver.

I've been a member of the Southsiders since 2004.  I started out my University career at the University of Manchester.  There I made some friends who gave me no choice but to become a Man United supporter.  When I came back I was interested in being a season ticket holder and like Brett, it didn't hurt that in doing so I would get priority tickets to United v Celtic in Seattle.

A couple years later I moved back to the UK to do my Law degree at Middlesex University London.  During that time I kept up to date with what was going on with Caps and the Southsiders and even managed to get to a few matches thanks to Brett.

I'm really excited about our inaugural MLS season and also really looking forward to serving on the Southsiders Board of Directors this season as your treasurer.

Looking forward to getting to know a lot of you guys this season.

    Cheers,
    James

My name is (obviously) Chris. I'm a 911 operator and police dispatcher for the VPD, as well as a couple of RCMP agencies.

I have only recently joined the Southsiders, and am a bit of a football noob.  I've followed the Caps casually for years, but the only time I ever made it out to Swangard was for a Canada/Guatemala WC qualifier a few years back. I blame a lack of sports-loving friends.

I decided I was going to join the Southsiders even before I decided to purchase season tickets for the Caps.  Having been a lifelong Canucks fan who likes to get up and yell at games, the atmosphere you guys provide was really attractive.  I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to standing to cheer for more than 10 seconds without someone behind me complaining that they can't see.

March 19th is circled, underlined and highlighted in blue and white on the calendar... can't wait to see you all there!

    Hello All,

My name is Tym. I'm a software developer with a passion for photography. I take my dSLR with me almost everywhere I go, and loved being able to take photos at whitecaps games, occasionally standing in the southside. I wish I could do the same at MLS games, but I'm afraid my pro equipment will no longer be permitted.

I was born in Poland, and moved to Vancouver in 1982. My first whitecaps game was at the BC Place opening back in 83. Since then I have been a casual fan, following the team mostly in newspapers and the occasional game or two, until 2008 when a friend and I decided to get season tickets. My friend moved away the next season and since then I've been getting 5-game match packs. This year I got a couple of season tickets for my wife and I and we will be in the Grand/prawnsider section 210. However we are expecting our first child in May so on occasion one or both of my tickets will be available in the appropriate discussion thread. I already have a whitecaps jersey for my unborn son, so I'm sure he'll be joining us at games as well :)

Can't wait for the season to start!

Hi, I'm Susan- I live about an hour south of Seattle and I'm the only Sounders fan you're allowed to like, LOL!

I lived in Bellingham for 5 years while going to college.  I was
first introduced to indoor soccer by my mom, if you can believe that,
and we watched Tacoma Stars games when I was home on the weekends.  A
lot of the Stars players were playing with the 86ers in the summer
(Carl Valentine, Dale Mitchell, Greg Ion, etc.) so I started going to Vancouver games in
1991 and have been a fan ever since.  I make it to about 8-10 games a year and am hoping to get to more this season.  My Nexus card is my best friend.  :)

I'm a clinical audiologist (hearing specialist) with an Ear Nose and Throat clinic in Puyallup.  Like Proggie I'm also very into photography, although I'm not nearly as good at it as he is.  ;-)  I happen to be sitting next to him in 210, though, so I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time picking his brains about it.

Can't wait until March 19th- I've already got motel reservations.

I've been to a few of their games- I don't think I made it to any last season but I did the year before.  They're kinda 3rd on my priority list, after the Whitecaps and Sounders.

My name is Mike and I've been following the Whitecaps since 2009. This will be my third year as a seasons ticket holder and 2nd season in the Southside.

As an employee with BC Ferries in Horseshoe Bay I first became interested in soccer during the 2006 World Cup while working with the "French guy" the "Dutch guy" the "Portuguese guy" and of course the "Italian guy". It was during this time I wondered "why the hell isn't Canada in this thing". Depending on how you look at it Google pointed me to the painful answer to my question.

That's when I discovered the Caps. And I have been attending as many games as my schedule allows ever since I moved to Nanaimo from New Westminster in 2008. I know this doesn't make any sense but thats the way it is.

Now I've done the overseas football tourist thing and had a blast. Saw England play Montenegro back in October and was impressed with Wembley and the English supporters who appologised to us for coming from Canada to watch England play. Also saw Manchester United play West Brom at Old Trafford during the same trip and enjoyed many pints at The Trafford. Even got a story about scamming my way into the players dressing room at Old Trafford because I needed to use the loo and they let me use the same loo Cantona and Rooney used.

But all this aside I can hardly stand the waiting to get back behind the keeper at the Southside for another year! It will be fun.

  • Greetings from England!!!

Tone, based in Ipswich home of the 'Super Blues' as they were when they had the likes of 'Caps Legends Sir Bobby Robson, Frans Thijssen & of course Trevor Whymark the 1979 'Caps NASL final  goalscoring Legend.  Personally i prefer 'Super Blues' over 'Tractor Boys' even if ITFC aren'tr so super these days :(

I note 'Tractor_Boy' would have been watching the Town at a time when they had a future 'Caps legend in the Town team - Trevor Whymark, as he says they were a top four team, for a period of 10 years, which is why 'Caps/Ipswich manager was poached to manage his current England!

Always followed Ipswich Town from the 70s, most memorable games attending would be a 6-0 victory over Man Utd (as we were both in the top three it was a bigger victory than the 9-0 reverse when Ipswich were dropping like a sack of sh.... into relagation) and also the 3-1 victory over St Etienne (with Michel Platini and former World Cup finalist Jonny Rep) on the way to winning the UEFA Cup.  Today personal friends of many of those teams including with Frans Thijssen, Trevor Wymark & even wrote a foreword in a book for the late Sir Bobby Robson!

Connections to the 'Caps, other than personal friends playing for them!  Lived on the North Shore in the 90s, and have been back many times, including last year when i met up with another 1979 NASL winning finalist!

  • Hi, I'm Keith. Homegrown Vancouverite with the webbed feet to prove it.

I've been attending games since 1976 so might have a historical perspective that some younger members might not. The Southside has been my home since its creation back in the 86'rs days. Fond memories of Chelsea Jonny blaring into the dripping megaphone : "Lenarducci !". I can be found at any away matches in Portland and Seattle having attended all since 2008. Looking forward to seeing more people make the trips.

  • Hello,

My name is Shawn and I am an electrician. I am currently working for the port at Vancouver Wharves, and as such, I am a member of the longshoreman's union. No I cannot get anyone X-boxes, wii's, dvd players or flat screen tv's. And no we are not all bikers, gangsters, crooks or drunken, sexist pigs as the media makes us out to be.

I grew up in southeast Vancouver and spent many summers bike riding or swimming in Central Park. Some of the older gents may remember the kids climbing the fences or trees to watch the 86ers games in the late 80's. I was most likely one of them. I've always followed the 86ers/Caps and was lucky enough to have an uncle who had sporting connections in Vancouver. He took me to many 86ers, Lions and Canucks games. I really started to seriously follow the Caps in 2007 and would hang out at the northwest corner at Swangard. When they moved the beer garden and added the VIP area I moved to the grandstand, but I eventually moved to the Southside. I officially joined in 2010.

A funny thing happened to me on our last match day at Swangard vs Puerto Rico. I had been at my parents place earlier, so I decided to walk to the match. I met up with Brett to set up the Tifo. After the game, on the way home I was a bit depressed about the result. I suddenly realized I was walking the same path home as I had done so many times as a kid. I passed the same fences, houses and trees. I cut the same corners and walked over the same lawns as I did 15 years ago. This cheered me up a bit, but as I came to my parents block I realized I'd probably never walk this way again and was again depressed. I fully blame the Puerto Ricans, and can't wait until we meet again in CCL. I Don't know why I though of this while writing this post but I did.

I had seen the odd eighty-sixers game in elementary, but I truly became a fan in 2009, when I first went into the southside. I was intrigued, and when I went again, thanks to whitecaps women's player Jodi-Ann Robinson, who gave me a free ticket, I went in again, and that was when I got hooked!!

I've been a casual Whitecaps supporter since I discovered them in 08, a few games here and there when I had someone to go with. I love to sing and chant at football matches and am looking forward to getting involved with the TIFO stuff and get to away games. Travelling to away matches was one of my absolute favourite things about football and I really hope that lots of people who've not done it before try it.

I have been chanting in the southside since 1999 and love the atmosphere compared to sitting with the blue hairs in the grandstand at Swangard stadium.

I look forward to meeting our many new members this year !

Hi, I'm Eric. I live in Surrey and I'm an elementary school teacher. Like a lot of people in Vancouver, I grew up watching and only following hockey and the Canucks. Also like many North Americans, I had the unfair (and incorrect) viewpoint that soccer was boring and not much of a sport.

It changed in 2002, when my friends dragged me down to Commercial to watch the World Cup. I actually gave the sport a chance and now I rarely watch hockey, and wake up early every weekend to watch the Premiership. I started supporting Manchester United after the World Cup, as they were regularly on TV then and an exciting team to watch. Since then I've been lucky enough to see them play in Seattle against Celtic, Old Trafford and in Japan. They were all unreal experiences that I hope will continue to happen with the Whitecaps.

I'm brand new to the Southsiders this year and I'm excited about this season. I've been to a handful of Whitecaps games over the last few years. I've loved the atmosphere at Swanguard, but I haven't honestly been a dedicated follower. My wife and I bought some season tickets this year though, so that will change!

I'll be at the Lamplighter event, and I'll be at Oscar's this Saturday! Hopefully the FO can sort out my tickets so I can get moved to the correct side of the stadium and be near some fellow Southsiders!

I'm Ben, i live in Coquitlam. I'm 18 yrs old, in college right now and playing lots of soccer. I've played since i was 4 and have been to a decent number of Whitecaps games back at Swangard. I can remember standing in the Southsiders section with my uncle at one or 2 of the games when i was maybe 10, right at the front behind the net.

Playing mens div. 2 right now for DFC in the FVSL right now, as well as div 2 in the Indoor leagues at 8 rinks.

Was a Liverpool fan for as long as i can remember until i was old enough (12 or so) to understand my grandparents lived in Chelsea their whole lives before coming to Canada. so now a die-hard Chelsea fan through and through. hoping to go to England in the next couple years to see a match or 2.

First year as a Southsider. will be there at every home match with my brother and hopefully a Seattle or Portland away match. section 216, row p at Empire. (sec. 251, row G at BC place). got my Caps jersey, season ticket package, and ready to go.

    lets go White and Blue!

    hey guys,

My name is Moe and I'm from Richmond. I've been a soccer fan ever since I could remember. My fondest memory growing up was Baggio missing the penalty kick against Brazil in '94, I was 9 years old at the time. I'm originally from Iraq and my country defeated all odds to win the 2007 Asian Cup. This was a super emotional moment for me and my family and the only thing that came close was Canada winning hockey gold. Me and my friends have been cheering for the Whitecaps since 2008. We stood by the southesiders as Vancouver beat Puerto Rico to win the championship and ever since then, we've been hooked! We have 8 season tickets and all of us are super psyched! Get ready for the rowdy bunch! We also got our own little firm within the firm. We call ourselves the West Coast Casuals! WCC. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you soon! Lamplighter tonight!

  • my name is craig i work for a major hotel chain in vancouver coal harbour in guest services. i am also a dj and promoter for the Get dirty Collectiv based in Vancouver.

my family and i had season tickets with the nasl cap from 77-84 i believe.
went to some canada qualifying games in 96-97 and chanted hard with the colenall with knightmare and mr buzzcut. jamaica el salvadore etc
after that the colenall suggested i come to a game in 97 with 86ers . the next year i bot season tix. footy was pretty good but the league was shat! the croatians we the first force chanting for sulentic but we added on all players after that. after the croatians left we just took over the southsider beer garden because there was simply no one there. they had firefighters doing the security and back then there was no fence just the sign boards. use to be a shit show cause scarifical sacremento would come to town and it would be 8-0. i still remember the 8 is not enough chant. Colenall who now is living in montreal i believe came up with some of the chants that we still sing today.

boundry road, fine night, etc, at the time we never thought it would have grown to what it is now but from one the originals i am very proud where its come from and where its going. by the way we came up with the southsiders because we were sick of changing the name everytime a new beer sponsor came aboard. Carlsberg crew (one of the best we had at swangard) canterbury crew etc,,,,,finally gooner ,colenall ,han-d-man ,chanting craig, and rasta decided just to stick with southsiders and it stuck ever since.

i may not be as partisipating as much as i use to cause of other commitments u will always see me at every game going fuckin mental

    cheers chanting craig

  • Good Day, my name is Steve and I sell rocks!

I'm stuck in Alberta for now, but I plan on flying out for a few games each season. If everything thing goes well this weekend I should be at Oscars at 11am Saturday.

I am a fan of the beautiful game. I have attended some bundesliga games over the years and follow the German national team. I have been looking for a team closer to home to support.

  • My name is Ron, and as you can see, I am a big fan of the German National Team. I have been a Whitecaps fan as long as I can remember. I live in Vernon, and seen a few 'Caps games but along with a friend of mine here we both have season tickets and look forward to a great season as we make our travels from the Okanagan. I work in the printing industry and I have access to gettng banners made.

I am actively involved in the local soccer scene, and I am taking my U18 Girls team to England/Germany in July for a few friendlies and we also have managed to get tickets to the FIFA Women's World Cup semi-final and final in Frankfurt (Go Canada!). My fondest soccer memory is Mexico '86 and being in the stands for Maradona's "Hand of God" goal as well as the final game.

I am looking forward to picking up my membership at Oscar's on Saturday and meeting the Southsiders. GO CAPS!!
