I hope that when people complain about the Whitecaps FO from now on, they will understand how good we have it.
He didn't take his pants off. Just the shirt. He got kicked out of the section for having tickets in a different section. They were looking for a technicality. Whatever... He's a new recruit. :)
Ongoing Reddit thread about the Southsiders at the game tonight.
Unfortunately, the atmosphere at canucks games is never going to change. The NHL and the canucks have proven they don't care about their fans. They've showed that with all of their lockouts and the canucks proved it tonight, with their aggressive actions towards paying customers that were doing nothing wrong. I would chalk it up as a learning experience and would refuse to support the team financially again. I personally only go to games when i get free tickets.
This calls for a tifo to be made in big bold letters.

And your teammate is dead,
You're a Heatley. You're a Heatley. This is fucking brilliant. How are people not loving this?
Most of the people in front of us loved it. One guy promised to sign up because of it.
Anyway to listen to the post game show now?
Team 1040 does podcasts, but I'm not sure if it'll be posted yet, or if they even do one for the post-game show.
Before we come down overly hard on the Canucks, let's note that almost NO ONE joined in our chants during the game. Even our Go Canucks Go chants got nowhere. I agree that the Canucks FO didn't handle this well, but it's not like anyone who "loved having us there" was willing to join in. Maybe the begining of a long road. It feels an awful lot like caps games where we're viewed as entertainment

Much worse than Caps games. We can get SOME participation there. I'm just happy at the overwhelmingly positive reaction to it. Aside from a couple of grumpy old farts, the reaction was generally "we need more of that."
fully expected some of you guys to get tossed. Really sad as a canucks fan to see people that are injecting energy without being belligerent getting tossed out.
Ever since i saw two guys get removed for singing "all we are saying is give us a goal" during game 5 against chicago in 2011, i knew rogers arena was bs. They were allowed back when they explained what they were saying. soon after several hundred people were cheering along. obviously no one was standing cause that is a big nono.
Did we really expect massive participation? I saw a few hands clapping along, and lots of smiling looks. For something so out-of-the-ordinary for a Canucks game, I think that's pretty good.
Who got fan of the game? And did they get ejected?

I definitely wasn't expecting standing chanting etc, but at least for our Go Canucks Go there could have been some love. A huge positive first step none the less. Really looking forward to TEAM 1040 tomorrow

A communications rep for the Southsiders, the Whitecaps fan club, got turfed for doing something foreign in Rogers Arena, standing and cheering. Well, the supporter group said he was actually asking security when it would be OK to stand up and cheer when he got the boot.
Security came down on the group, and apparently told them only those in the back row of the upper level could stand. Shhhhh.
Thanks Neil for thinking of us and providing the opportunity at a reduced rate! All had a great time!

@westcosta79, and no, he did not.
From the Canucks website itself:
Southsiiiiide - The Southsiders, the main supporter group for the Vancouver Whitecaps, cheered on the Canucks Tuesday night for the first time this season. Despite not being in full force, they were loud - like loud, loud.
The guy who took his shirt off was not a Southsider, he was 3 or 4 rows below us. Pants stayed on, shirt off, definitely a passionate fan though. I think it was just one Southsider who was asked to leave after a little to much sarcasm with security. A few people came up after the game and thanked us for the passion. Horse voice and a long ride back to Whistler but well worth it.

Ballsy to post that after having our members kicked out for doing what we do
Despite being unnecessarily hassled by what seemed to be a very disinterested security detail looking for something to do, no one lost their cool and everybody was committed to cheering on the Canucks without pissing others off. I made a point to ask VPD and security, during the 1st intermission, if there had been any incidents they were concerned about, and they had nothing of substance to communicate.
Good work, Southsiders. We represented ourselves exactly as we want. We're here for a good time, not a long time (when the Canucks were involved, anyway).
And thanks to @Vancouver_bus_guy1 for arranging everything and letting us get out there for some preseason action. ;)
I heard from people that 3 Southsiders got kicked out. 1 because he was asking questions aggressively and wouldn't listen to me to shut up while I was trying to reason with security. Not sure why Paul got kicked out though. The security was all "yeah we understand and appreciate, but you have to sit down. no questions, just sit down unless they score" there was no real logic behind that argument and I am not impressed at all with it. i spent 15 minutes trying to reason with then, and there was no success AT ALL. so we had to sit the 2nd and 3rd periods. It was boring, and awful...
They told us we were blocking people's view of the corner, but when I offered to switch seat with them they said they couldn't facilitate that. I then said, tell me who it was, I'll hand my ticket to them, and theirs to me and the problem would be solved. the next thing he said was "we can't do that" and looked at the VPD officer for back up on that. We even had people (who were going to stay seated throughout) start moving seats to accommodate this request, and they wouldn't have any of it, stating that it would be a "liability".... DAFUQ?!?!? We asked to make sure everyone was ok with it, and THEY WERE!
I really don't get that arena's staff/policy. Yes, make noise, but only when we tell you to, or if we score...
I bought a Canucks scarf (you all know how I love scarves) but I want to burn this thing based on how we were treated tonight....
Seriously, after all this lockout nonsense (read: BULLSHIT), you'd think the Canucks would treat their fans with a bit more respect. Guess I was asking a bit too much from this organization.
Glad I'm a Whitecaps fan. They know how to treat supporters.
Minute 36... 30 seconds.
This guy obviously doesn't get supporters culture,.. and probably 90% of Vancouverites feel the same way at Canucks games.
Great stuff....cat amongst the pigeons and all that...the Canucks will never change. Bring on the new season!
Well at least the guy who called afterwards didn't have sand in his vag.

If this happened a bit more then it will catch on, but because the suits are there it would be hard to catch on

haha the last guy basicly saying he'd rather watch the game in silence.
Someone should have made a video blog about this

very funny, the first person in the picture is on their phone! Props to the guys, excellent support.
It was great to see everyone last night. I got say the positive feed back and comments from Canuck fans about the atmosphere was fantastic. This from folks who did not know about the southsiders who wanted to know more "about these guys" is really going to help out with interest in Whitecaps games from people who never had been exposed to southside like support.
Also the Whitecaps name was mentioned so many times Caps got some free press for a place to go for atmosphere.

but she has a jersey so she must be a big fan.
Couldn't hear much on tv probably because the microphones were set up close to the ice only. But great job guys in creating a buzz and getting people to talk about it.
Wonder if players could hear you and what they thought about it.
Poll on teamradio.ca
Who would you rather sit beside?...
South Siders in the upper bowl? 75.93%
The Golf clappers in the lower bowl? 24.07%
Talking about it now on Team1040
Upper bowl up to 79% now
Lots of support for the SS on team 1040 call in show right now.
I can't believe how much buzz this has generated, but obviously keen to jump on the bandwagon, we've weighed in on it at AFTN, reviewed the night and had a chat with Kris.

We were in the cheapest seats. I didn't see any suits. This was as close to the rowdy seats as you'll ever find at RA, and there was nothing.
Keep in mind that people who call in to these shows represent less than 2% of an average audience. They tend to be on the extremes of any issue (either really LOVE or really HATE whatever the topic du jour is).
And while the TEAM survey is showing good results, it doesn't seem to be reflective of what you guys experienced last night. Wonder why that is? (serious question).
If the goal was to raise awareness about the Southside, I would definitely say mission accomplished.
Looks like this topic is going to be talked about on Team1040 for most of the morning and on Canucks lunch. I got say its nice to have today's morning host Botch running out of steam for his hate for the SS.
I got say the Whitecaps brass must be having a laugh talk about Gorilla Marketing at its best !
I have to say I don't understand at all why people are surprised or so vehement. We had trouble at BC Place in our first year there with people being told to sit down. That's in a building where security knew what to expect, and where the section was explicitly advertised as standing permitted. This was us going into foreign territory, where people standing, yelling and especially singing just does not happen. I get it if it isn't for you and you don't want to go back, but getting angry over something that was so easily foreseeable is going to age you prematurely.
Bad_Gones said: And while the TEAM survey is showing good results, it doesn't seem to be reflective of what you guys experienced last night. Wonder why that is? (serious question).
I would say it is very reflective of what we experienced from the other fans. We got no negativity from fans, we just got no participation either.
Chris said: I have to say I don't understand at all why people are surprised or so vehement.
For me its the logic of it. There was none. Security didn't tell us not to sing, only to sit down to "not block views." No views were being blocked, and offers were made to help relocate people who might have been affected. If we had been in the front rows of the section, I don't think any of us would be upset about it.
The fact BC place had similar problems isn't a defense for RA.
What came across from the Team1040 chat was that even if people didn't want a soccer specific atmopshere at Canucks games they did at least want an atmopshere that was more fun than they get at the moment.
A good majority of callers seemed to be fed up with attending games where the people around them weren't actually paying attention to or getting involved in the game and I suspect they are the genuine fans who actually pay for tickets, as opposed to so many who seem to get freebies from various corporate allocations.
proud to be ss'er after what you guys did last night...it seems like everyone was classy about it and it brought alot of positive attention to our wonderful group as one vancouver media person tweeted last night "super supporters"
As for RA and the canucks the reality is that now the arena is a place where business gets done or closed and the game is secondary..I remember when I was an advisor back in the day and fund companies used to take me to dinner than a hockey game while a sports fan at heart I had to control my loud cheering nature as I was representing my company and conducting business with the person next to me...this will never change unless you see possibly a large ticket price reduction...
