Southsiders FC - Co-Ed Team
  • krisaug5krisaug5
    Posts: 5,566

After having taken a bit of a friendly verbal shellacking from a few female members on Saturday (you know who you are), I am re-opening this idea:

I would like to have a co-ed soccer team of Southsiders members join a league in the spring/summer. I know of 2 leagues we could join, but I'm open to other suggestions.
    A) 8-rinks, Burnaby, March-September, Fri-Sun nights, weekly games, 20 games ~$180 per person
    B) Sportstown, Richmond, January-March or March-Sept, Sat-Mon nights, weekly games, 14 games ~$140 per person
    C) UrbanRec OUTDOOR, Vancouver, Sun-Thurs depending on field, weekly games, 12 games, ~$90 per person

One of the rules of coed is that there must always be 2 girls on the field. This means that we reasonably need 5-6 girls on the team so that if people can't make it for any reason, we still have enough girls there. 6 is a good number for subs and contingencies. I will need an accurate count so we can make sure that this is going to happen and then I can get organizing jerseys, league registration and such.

If you are interested please state if you want to play option A, B, or C or suggest another option, and mention your gender as some forum names aren't obvious for that.

    Edited to add Option C

Urban Rec, outdoor 7-a-side. ~$75-100 per person.

Sunday through Thursday, depending on which field you want to play on. $1000 for a team, between ~15 people, 12 weeks of games.

Depending on when the season starts and ends yeah most likely. We could use a good keeper so I can move back to my usual RB spot

Ok. I've just checked with UrbanRec again and registration for their winter league starts next week. It's 7v7 and we must have 2 of each gender on the field at any time. Means realistically we're looking at 5 women, 5 men minimum.

It's 10 weeks long and starts the week of January 7th (depends on which location we play at as to which day of the week we play).
    The fields are:
    Thunderbird Stadium - mon-thurs
    Trillium Park - Wednesdays
    Jericho Park - Tuesdays
    Memorial Park - Sundays
Andy Livingstone - Sundays or Thursdays.

I'm sorting out the cost, but it sounds like we'd be at around the $70 per person mark. Most locations are rain or shine as they are all played on turf fields. Are people interested in this, or should we way for the spring/summer season to be announced?

I'll sort out the jersey situation once I get a confirmation from players. Please indicate on here if you're interested (including which field), as well as sending me a PM with your name, contact info (phone and email) and which location you'd prefer.

    Thanks!

Wow, those are a lot of different options! I like the Trillium option the best I think, but am amenable to the Memorial/Andy Livingston options as well. Thanks for organizing this!

  • Would a person who plays rugby (out while waiting for shoulder surgery) but hasn't really played a lick of organized soccer (but watches enough of it to play the game; I was at the Edmonton FC kickaround though!) be allowed to play? I'm a dude.

If so: C) UrbanRec OUTDOOR, Vancouver, Sun-Thurs depending on field, weekly games, 12 games, ~$90 per person

Preferably Trillium Park and/or Andy Livingston (preferably on Sundays, but Thursdays are fine too.) as they are the most transit accessible (I'm coming in from Surrey/SFU Burnaby as a student)

Might as well find something to do instead of playing rugby!

Great. I think we're almost set for male players now. I'll put you and the the missus down, which will bring our roster now to 7 males and 2 females.

I'd like to get at least 3 more females so that we can have subs/spares for if someone needs to work or is sick or some such.

Based on input, central field location, and avoiding conflicts with the Southsiders indoor team, our best bet is to go with Trillium Park on Wednesdays.

Great! welcome to the team. That should put us at 5 -7 women now (Just waiting on confirmation from a few).

I will submit the registration on the 13th, and will collect fees from everyone once I've done so. I expect it to be about $70-80 per person

Registration opens today at 12:15 and I'll be registering us. From that point, I'll need everyone's contact info, and once I get a finalized number of players, I'll be asking for money (At the AGM please), and we'll sort out jerseys. If you haven't already, please provide me with an email address, phone number, and jersey size.

Those of you already on the men's indoor team, there is no guarantee at the moment that we'll be using the same jerseys for both teams, so please provide me with your size.

Note: When sending me your information, please let me know what option you'd like to exercise if we need to purchase our jerseys, whether you want a cheaper t-shirt, or a more expensive but better quality jersey. (This is a back-up in case we can't get any donated for the team)

I need everyone's jersey size and prefered number (give me a few in case I can't get you your first choice) and I will get looking at the orders. Looks like we can get both a white and a dark jersey from Soccer Express for about $50 for the pair. I'll need everyone's sizes before I get an exact quote.

Jerseys have been ordered, expecting them early in the new year (before our first game) so please check your emails as I've been sending you guys all updates. Please get your payment to me asap, and if you can, please come to the kickaround on January 5th so we can all meet each other and play partially as a team so we can get used to how everyone plays.
