Vancouver Whitecaps @WhitecapsFC
#WhitecapsFC acquire first-round draft pick & international spot from @TorontoFC for striker Eric Hassli -
Oh Bummer.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooh heavy. Good trade?
That's all we could get for him? The FO REALLY better have something up their sleeve.

I'm happy to see him go. Won't miss him. Great move FO.
Ugh.really? Toronto? Damn.
shekers said: Does this free up our dp spot as well?
Yeah.
Do Tranna also pick up his salary?
are they maneuvering for more international players or just going straight for the draft?
sad to see him go, but the goals he scored here will never be forgotten. hope his freed up spot will allow us to bring over some defensive depth and/or better wingers...
That's the big question. Who is coming in? Will it be like a Kenny Miller signing? Rumours for a day or two then signed? Or something out of the blue?
GFunk said: Facepalm TFC? A torturous fate. Eric Hassli deserved better than this. I could see this coming a mile away too but I personally think this is a huge mistake. The player is class. Did you see his goal against Seattle last year away?!
No. Was it any good?
I heard that there is a "luxury tax" for teams that have 3 DPs. Have the caps already paid? If so, do they get anything refunded now that Eric is gone?
GFunk said: Oh and cowardly move by FO posting at 455pm on a Friday.
This I agree with.
So we just paid 250k to the rest of the league to add a third dp then we trade a dp like 3 days later? That's shitty management imo.
I really like Hassli. He was a huge part of our club last season and will always be a part of 'Caps history imo. Having said that, this move could be seen a mile away. The Miller signing plus the emergence of Mattocks meant the DP/Int spot could be used elsewhere (to re-unite Demerit with his American buddy?? :D )
Sad to see him go but I think it was right, just to the wrong club.
SAFC_Yank said: I hate it, but it all fits. Rennie wasn't going to start him, especially with Miller coming in. And Toronto dumped a DP spot with deGuzman leaving and is in desperate need of a striker after Koevermans got hurt.
I wouldn't be shocked if this deal was set for a few days and TFC hesitated after the ankle injury in Chicago. Once they found out he'll only miss a couple of weeks, they pulled the trigger.
Business wise probably a great move. Free up a dp spot and essentially two international spots along with a tfc first rounder for a guy who clearly wasnt in the future plans. From an emotional perspective that really really sucks.
Another 2-stick to sign on Sunday....
U could tell this was coming... Koevermans injured, De guzman traded to free up a DP spot... Really hoping the Caps use the 3rd DP slot to pick up a big time player in the back four.
This was probably the worst kept secret for the Whitecaps. Just a shame to see him leave because he was a fan favourite and I myself really liked him, I can't believe we didn't get more for him, but it's the right move. With Kenny Miller's addition and Darren Mattocks' form along with Camilo as an impact substitute and occasional (wrongly positioned) winger, he wasn't going to get a lot of playing time and with that DP status and wage, it would've got pretty bad for him.
It also looks like we're still not done with the moves this summer. Another international player is likely and he'll probably be a DP as well, so this will be interesting.
Good luck in Toronto, Eric. We'll miss you and you'll always be a Whitecap! Thanks for scoring the inaugural goal for us and giving us someone to cheer for!
Dislike.
I swear to god if he score to beat us in the Voyageurs cup next year I may hit an innocent bystander
How about Brek Shea for Camilo and this pick we just got while we are at it.

Or they got another DP incoming...
It would have to be that another DP is on the way - or else - this is very poor business.
I am gonna miss Hassli, for all his legitimate faults on the field he still provided us with some pretty glorious moments that Ill never forget. He was also great off the field. I got a chance to speak with him a couple times and was very friendly and overall nice guy. What I hate most is that it had to be TFC - Ill be choked to see him score wonder goals for them, even worse if they are aginst us.

It could have just happened. Earlier today the FO put a picture of Hassli signing a painting for the silent auction on Wednesday, I doubt they would have done that if they knew he was leaving.
Goodbye Hassli! I will forever remember the wonder goals you gave us, though I sincerely hope you don't ever do that to us!

That wouldn't be a bad idea. He's apparently skipped Dallas practice, he's getting into disagreements with the coach and the team is near the bottom of the table. He'll be wanting out plus we could use another winger.

Might be right, it would explain why Hassli came out through one of the main gates the other night and took so much time with people. Wish I'd stuck around now.
GOOD LUCK IN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ERIC!!!!!

Where did de Guzman end up going?
Dallas.

Pretty sure he went to Dallas.
I hope he makes one last appearance at the Bell Box on Sunday for a proper send off...
Although, Hassli has some serious skills, I think the Caps got good value for the deal. Most of the speculation on our forums was that it would be hard to find someone to take him at his current salary and also to have him waive his no-movement clause.
Wow, I don't know what to say.
Three quality players in such a short time. Hassli seemed happy here and he was a big part of the club, and just like that, he is now gone.
I guess it was going to happen, but so quickly? I hope things settle for a while, because I want to see a team being built and then sticking together.
A note to all you kids out there; Don't bother getting names put on the back of your kits/shirts as this club seems to like to dump players rather quickly.
Ah, the business of sports.
Thank-you ERIC HASSLI ! Good luck in the future, thanks for your goals and bringing interest into the MLS era Whitecaps ! We will miss ya !
Bon Chance ERIC !
