Given the countries available during this break, this is actually one of the best countries Canada could face, particularly as preparation for the next WC qualifyers they will play. Hart says that the two potential South American teams (almost certainly Colombia and Bolivia) involved too much travel in too little time (Canada plays T&T at a neutral site in Florida).

It's not at home, of course, and even if it was it would be in Toronto anyway; but it will be televised, presumably with a viewing at Doolin's for those in Vancouver.

The games against Panama are September 7 and 11, and could well decide whether Canada advances or not.

Carlyle Mitchell might be in contention for T&T if he was ever playing.

Wikipedia says Russell Teibert has been called up. No, it wasn't me who edited Wikipedia to say Russell Teibert has been called up. There's no source. Still, fun to point at.

I could see him having earned it with his effort at Olympic tournament.

    Yep. Teibert called up. Congratulations!

EDIT: Mitchell called up for Trinidad and Tobago, of course. Mattocks, Richards, and Barbara have been called up for other friendlies.

  • I hope he gets a run out. No Josh Simpson opens some doors on that side of the pitch.

It is interesting if they view him as the back up FB or Ledgerwood. Sort of a weird B roster though. Hopefully he starts and impresses. I would love nothing more for him to make Rennie "look stupid" for burrying him.

He's been assigned the #3 shirt, which certainly hints at "full back". But with Ante Jazic there and Marcel de Jong returning hopefully it doesn't mean anything. It could even just be a mistake in the release, since Teibert wore #3 at the Olympics.

    The CSA is a mistake.

If we were to blow the CSA up, how would you like to see it restructured?

  • Extended highlights and they're worth watching.

In case you're wondering, yes that guy wearing #3 who's tearing it up in the second half is our very own RT. How this guy doesn't play is beyond me.

Good signs there. Hopefully we can pull out a couple wins against Panama in the games that count - although that will be a pretty tough order.

September 7 is a Friday, hopefully it's a PM game so we can gather somewhere. FIFA's site still doesn't have a time or a venue listed.

  • Looks like there is at least some momentum in the program. Would be nice to have some more forward depth. RT was just ripping it, although he looks too one footed in those videos. I would love to see him play as a #10 because he is so dynamic.

Would be good to get a squad list, if not in the intro on the video at least in the description below.

I would have murdered whoever was ringing that bell.

It's not good that it costs too much for the CSA to play games like this at home, and that they're held in neutral venues.

After criticizing the @CanadaSoccerEN account for that, I've come around. This game was for the coaching staff and fringe players, not for us. Good warm-up, assessment game.

That was enjoyable, and very noticable.

Agreed, but it's discouraging. Would they have lost money if they had played it at home? If not, then surely it should have been played in the home of one country or the other. So many of the problems with the CMNT are about lack of exposure to Canadian fans, and here's a game getting zero exposure to Canadian fans. The US plays Mexico at Azteca, we play T&T at a high school field in Florida. Opportunity lost.

I agree that it should have been played in Canada if possible. Understandable that the winter camps are in Florida, but middle of the summer? Can't understand why this wasn't in Canada, even Toronto wpuld have made more sense, but how about the maritimes? St. John's could have gotten a few thousand fans. Then again maybe T&T wouldn't have come to Canada. And I agree Brenton about the lack of exposure. Even if it is for the coaching staff and players, putting a feed on the web or even a full game instead of the extended highlights would have been nice.

And I could have killed that bell person!!!! Most annoying 2 minutes of my day and that includes the team1040 stuff. It did make the goal better though.

I'm actually very excited about the September qualifiers and the play of the young players. Need to fill in the centre back position I think though. And not convinced of Hirschfeld over Borjan, but Lars hasn't done anything to lose the job, I just think Borjan's better.

I fully agree about getting the game to us somehow (webcast being the obvious medium), I just don't think they needed to play it in Canada, despite the need for greater exposure. I imagine this game saved both federations some money, and was a compromise for both.

  • They play in Florida on purpose, to simulate CONCACAF weather. It makes some sense.

@Barca, not to nitpick but CB is likely the strongest position on this team With Mckenna, Hainault, jakovic, Edgar and even Henry all playing at a high level. I do agree about Borjan though.

And they play on a disused cricket oval too, in order to simulate CONCACAF cattle pastures er.. football grounds.

That was a sad showing from the CSA regarding the friendly. Embarrassing, really. But with MLS making international dates optional and BMO in use, they had to vacate.

My CSA "source" told me that they could have figured out a stream, but when they do that more people complain about the quality of the stream and lack of commentators then would complain about it not being broadcast in the first place.
