In their last match, the Earthquakes played FC Dallas and they won 2-1. Chris Wondoloski is their most dangerous player, he is currently at 17 goals this season. Martin Chavez is another player to watch out for, he has a lot of assists and was a big part of FC Dallas's run to the MLS Cup 2 years ago. San Jose currently has 43 points in the western conference standings.

Put that match against Dallas on DVR and watched after I got home last night. Aside from nearly letting it get away in the last few minutes, they looked really, really good. Chavez and Wondo were good, but they're also getting good production out of Alan Gordon, and Salinas has even found form with three assists in the last two games.

It's going to be a challenge, but we've done the work on them before.

Lenhart is apparently out due to "concussion-like symptoms". I guess that's what happens when you dive so much. How much this will benefit Whitecaps is questionable, considering that Gordon is a good replacement; but at least we won't have to watch Lenhart's pathetic antics.

Any chance wondo is injured and/or doesn't like turf and/or hates vancouver and just won't be making it up here. 17 goals so far!!!

Only thing I can think of is the league puts pressure on SJ to rest him for the All-Star game. And both of their starting fullbacks. Freakin' Wondo has scored, what, 4 or 5 goals against us since joining MLS? I know he scored all 3 of their goals last year and the one in BC Place this year. Just not sure if he had 1 or 2 when we lost earlier this year down there.

  • We'd be idiots not to cover him tightly unlike the first two games. I know it's easier said than done considering his goal production, but with a back line like ours, we should be closing him down and giving him no room to shoot.

I can't understand Wondo, he was rubbish for Houston. It seems that in the past two season and this year he has suddenly developed super powers.

Full confession, I actually LIKE Stephen Lenhart. Saw him play for Columbus in Seattle's second season, love the way he throws himself around. And the hair doesn't hurt his cause, either.

It's hard to explain, he is the type of player that gives 110% but doesn't score techincal goals, but he pounces on any mistake the defence makes.

    let's go 'caps!!

  • So it seems Kenny will be getting at least a few minutes this weekend thanks to Eric's departure. I sure hope he does get around 15-20 minutes to show us what he's all about.

I've heard he lit up the reserve league when he was in Houston and that there were more than just a few who suspected he was going to be a big talent.

Have a wee dram, Chauchi. A three ouncer should do it - one each for LeToux, Chiumiento, and Hassli.

Since none of the media were at training - I'll throw out there that Mattocks limped off 10-15 minutes into training - seemed his right leg. Went for massage did some stretching then left - might be nothing, but might also mean Millers first start. Same way Robson was eased into the lineup.

With players coming off injury, I suspect Klazura, Teibert, and Barbara will find their way off the 18. No appearance for Teibert over his spell on the bench.

  • Looking forward to this one. Will try and be awake at midnight for a dodgy internet feed here in not so sunny Scotland. Anyone who is usually overseas know of a reliable feed?

Hopefully Miller gets a run out at least.

I've always loved speed in sports. This lineup may or may not be more successful than the old one, but I'll take this over Hassli poking around and falling down every day of the week.

'caps playing with fire. Mids can't allow those easy attacking runs at the back four.

San Jose is going to win most of those battles on crosses into the box. Have to play the ball on the ground rather than having Lee loft soft crosses in.

OK, can someone tell me what Davidson does again? Never is on the ball, the 'caps don't often win the possession battle and in games like this the midfielders are getting good runs at the back four. The next spot to upgrade, in my opinion.

  • I think his position is quite a tough one to stand out in. He's definitely our weakest midfielder at the moment but I think he has done pretty well making the step up from USL. The more Koffie and Robson are in the game the less you see of him. However they can only make good runs forward knowing he is there to fill the gaps. With SJ pressing so hard it is tough for him to stand out.

The transfer window closes on Friday, if Rennie doesn't have someone in mind now, it won't happen

At the start of the second half, we saw one of his problems again. He has to step up and take on attacking midfielders, but too often he steps back and doesn't cover anybody. Robson was rightly chewing him out this time, but it happened a couple of times in the first half too. I could see Thorrington getting his spot when he's healthy.
