    My wife, works for Chevron. Seems they have come aboard as a Whitecaps sponsor. Anyways apparently you can pick up player cards at Chevron gas stations, no purchase necessary. She is going to check this out on her way home from work tonight.

    I just checked at the Chevron in Duncan. The owner has heard rumours of these cards, but he hasn't seen any. He will enquire within his company. I'll pay for a set of whatever these are from anyone in Vancouver area that can find them.

    Crap, yeah meant to post that at the weekend.

    It's a sheet of 8 player cards and a scan to win card in the middle.

    Quite smart for collectors like myself. Picked one up on Sunday (no purchase required! :) )

    No advertising of any kind at the gas station though.

    If you didn't know it was on, you'd never find out by looking at the outside of one.

    I've picked up 2 sets of 8 so far and cannot find a third if it even exists. I've tried 3 Chevrons. The people working at the stations don't know that they have them. In 2 instances I've had to tell them that they are in the box by their feet. I was told that they would be available until September.

    I have the original Upper Deck set of Whitecaps cards from the beginning of last season. Most of them were photos of the players from their previous teams. It was only a few bucks on ebay.

    So far I've only seen 2 different sets of 8. Missing players include Hassli and Chiumiento.

    The eight I picked up (in East Van in case that matters) were Alderson, Bonjour, Cannon, Davidson, DeMerit, Koffie, Le Toux and Lee.

    Apparently there's only the two sheets at the moment. The Manager at the Shell on St Johns in Port Moody (they have both sets) says there will be more coming later. Presumably after the transfer window closes.
    In the absence of anything more substantial as a RUMMOR, It makes you think anyone on the first two sheets has a relatively safe place in the squad and, by implication, anyone not on these sheets is more likely to be traded ??

    Found a place that had the Mattocks and friends, but the guy refused to give me any, said his manager had forbid it until they had more info.

    So Chiumiento was not on the first 2 sets of cards and he is no longer with the team. Hassli is the other notable also not featured. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Perhaps we can get Chevron to send some to your local station. or worse case send an envelope to me and I'll get some to post. the promotion goes until the end of June so if you are coming to the lowermainland you should be able to pick some up yourself.
