Lee Young-pyo's absence on the first week of July
  • There used to be a team Anyang FC. But this team is not our team now. The club owner(LG group) betrayed local fans and moved to Seoul for their business benefit. The team is Lee Young-pyo's debut club.

Lee spent his adolescence in Anyang city and graduated Anyang Engineering High School, and made his professional debut at Anyang LG Cheetahs. (a.k.a Anyang FC)

We support Young-Pyo Lee. He is the legend here, Anyang city(안양), and we are all proud of him. We are now trying to re-found our home team, which was YP's debut club. Plz visit 안양FC 시민연대(www.facebook.com/anyangfc.union) and support us. We are waiting for our team for 8 years, since our team moved to Seoul (now FC Seoul)

We need him, Lee. On July 5, city council are going to decide re-foundation of our home team, Anyang. But, that is not an easy problem because of political opposition. If he comes and helps us, our dream will come true. We also know that July is very important month for your club to win the MLS race. But we are asking Whitecaps and fans to understand our earnest desire.

Thank you so much to read this discussion

Before this turns into a crazy argument I must point out that the Southsiders hold zero influence on things like this. So all that any of us can do is state our opinion and it isn't like we can influence this either way.

It would be worse if Toronto's team came here.

Best of luck getting your team back.

It's a far better reason than some Beckham has used to miss games. Good luck with your efforts.

  • So... Most of Korean football fans called FC North Immorals or FC scums for FC f**king Seoul. :D

...............just please return him when finished ! :))

He is VWFC property afterall. Good luck bringing football back to Anyang, as I hear S. Korea is becoming very capatalistic.

  • Ikhan, thanks for the info about Anyang FC.

When you were here in Vancouver going to UBC, I was living in South Korea. I went to as many Busan I'cons (now Busan I'Park) matches as I could, and I was fortunate enough to attend a match at Anyang Stadium during Anyang's final season in the K-League (2003).

As you may recall, it was either Anyang or Busan who were to be relocated to Seoul in early 2004, so I understand very well how this sad episode in Korean club football felt for supporters of both clubs. Feelings of betrayal ran deep, and still today many K-League club supporters across the country continue to boycott gs/lg (or "북패").

Relocating Anyang was idiotic, seeing as Anyang had such healthy attendances, and that Anyang-Suwon was one of the best local derbies in all of Asia.

I was very pleased to see Bucheon FC 1995 established soon after sk ("남패") were relocated to Jeju, as well as the creation of Seoul United (as an alternative to gs). I've wondered for years why Anyang hasn't had a lower-division team created after the relocation.

Best of luck for the council vote on July 5th. As a Vancouver Whitecaps supporter, a member of the Southsiders for more than a decade, and a keen follower of Korean club football, I would love to see Lee Young-pyo skip the Colorado away MLS match in order to present to Anyang City Council in support of a new club.

If things don't work out, I suggest that you forget the politicians, and instead established a supporter-owned club, such as Bucheon and Seoul United. It would be great to see a branch of Supporters Direct start in Asia one day.

    All the best!

Oh My Godddd If Y.P. Lee goes to Korea to back up this Anyang FC, it will mean so much to YP Lee to play with his 2002 WC alumni and the one and only Coach Guus Hiddink vs K-League All stars. Yup 10 year World Cup Anniversary. EVERYONE will be there except YP Lee and Chun Soo Lee. Unless the Whitecaps lets him.

Inspite of what was said above FC Seoul in a short run gave us the likes of Lee (Bolton), Ki (Celtic) and Park(Arsenal). If a fan is not from this town called Anyang, it's not even his business, so why all the fuss?

If Lee misses a match for this - plain stupid.

He can send a message they can play on their jumbotron.

    WCFC aren't a charity.

    Exactly.

He is a Whitecaps player and one of our best. We need him for every game.

Suppose he plays in this allstar game and gets injured, people will soon change their tune then!

Why isn't Worcester City Football Club a charity?

(Hint: the acronym of our club is VWFC.)

These players would have been produced by Anyang if the club had remained there. Have a look at the list of Anyang alumni.

If a fan is not from this town called Anyang, it's not even his business, so why all the fuss?

Are you serious? Ever heard of "divide and conquer"? As a football supporter, club relocation (regardless of the club) is everyone's business, as it could happen to any of our clubs. Do you fancy having the club that you support (whichever that is) moved?

Oh My Godddd If Y.P. Lee goes to Korea to back up this Anyang FC, it will mean so much to YP Lee to play with his 2002 WC alumni and the one and only Coach Guus Hiddink vs K-League All stars. So, basically, you are more concerned with a meaningless, one-time friendly match than the entire existence of a football club? Sigh...

B&WA: Football Clubs are like energy. You can't create or destroy it, it just changes forms. Consider it that Anyang FC is mechanical energy that was transferred into light & thermal energy of FC Seoul.

  • There are numerous other examples, Arne... but it's kind of pointless going over them. This thread is about Anyang.
