SEATTLE BUS TRIP – SATURDAY June 11!

Hello Southsiders!  After some serious wrangling and shenanigans with the Whitecaps, it appears we are FINALLY ready to begin taking orders for our upcoming supporters bus trip to Seattle on June 11!

As you may have heard, the Whitecaps are working with Uniglobe Travel to distribute tickets and operate buses to / from  the match.

However, we have retained our own supporters buses at a substantial savings over the Uniglobe Travel package presently advertised.  Here’s what you need to do:
     1)      Contact Uniglobe Vision to acquire your Seattle match tickets. Email them at whitecaps@uniglobevision.comor phone 604.677.1495. You are entitled to ONE match ticket for every season ticket registered to your name. Make arrangements with their agents for payment. Tickets cost $35, all taxes and fees included. 2)      Next, please visit http://vancouversouthsiders.bigcartel.com to purchase your Southsiders “86 Express” bus package
Our bus package is just $86 (includes all fees and taxes). This includes:- Transportation to / from Vancouver and Seattle

    - A special 50/50 scarf commemorating our first MLS Cascadia Cup match of 2011, valued at $25.

Your grand total for the Southsiders bus trip will be $121 (Uniglobe ticket, Southsiders bus package and all taxes and fees).

    ---

    Highjack:
    April 1:

The Cutoff for the Southside Bus trip is 9pm on April 17th.  After that only Cancellations.
Also if you are travelling with an underage person Bus 'B' whilst still being Southside Rowdy will be the 'All Age bus'.  All this means is if we have time for a pit stop it will do so at a restaurant and not a pub.  Otherwise it will be the same as the other buses.

Is it possible to get tickets without the ride, or is it a package?

We are still waiting for a finalization of the rules for away supporters and how the Whitecaps will be distributing tickets. In Seattle ECS is getting all the tickets, and in Portland the TA is getting their entire 500 allocation. Here it hasn't been decided.

I have to warn though that some might not be happy with the rules being placed on away fans. But if the same rules can keep Manchester United fans from being stabbed in Roma they should keep us safe in Seattle right?

I'd be in for three game tickets, but not the ride, if that option is available.

I think the option to get tickets for these games without going on the bus is a must.

I understand why we would do this for the Starfire game as we were only looking at 50 tickets but I don't feel it would be acceptable to do this for regular season games when people are going to be looking at making vacations out of the trips.

Is it possible to have a referendum of all members to look at this?

If you need a proposer, then I'm proposing and looking for a seconder.

If we have control of a ticket allocation, then I am sure we would rather help out our non-bus members than not.  The big question mark in all of this is how we get the effin' tickets to begin with.

I think we need to be able to sit down with the club after the first couple of games and maybe have myself, Johnnie and couple of non board members to discuss the logistics of travelling to the Casadia games. I don't know whether it's worth having a referendum, because we know the outcome.

The Vancouver Southsiders will be putting together an Away Trip to the Seattle Match on Saturday June 11.

The trip will include Coach Travel and Matchday ticket. If demand is high enough for overnight accommodation.

Will we expect to see a link to a survey on this in the near future, like for the Cascadia summit?

I accept that no ticketing details are known yet but I feel it's important that we have this already decided and written as part of the Southsiders rules and regulations, in case we do get them (or some) to distribute and not just the Caps

There are two outside issues. 1) rules 2) We haven't been told how tickets will be made available.

Unless as long as people are able to buy tickets independently of the Southside I don't see why the southside should have rules forcing it to take the financial risk of selling' tickets only'.
I do have to say knowing the rules that this conversation isn't worth having.

oh I just though MLS won't let people travel to away trips unless they're in a supporters group, and my friend isn't I wan't to invite him because I know he would love it and might wan't to join.

I realize this should probably go in official chants but I really don't want to clutter that thread when it is really ramping up to this Saturday. Also, this chant would be for away games specifically so I guess it is relevant here.

We are only getting 500 tickets, and as it looks like we will be at well over 500 members by June 11th, we will probably have to distribute the tickets on some kind of lottery basis. (I need ideas on how to make it fair for everyone)

I will post a link next week for a $20 deposit

I am the only one in our small group that is a southside member. In previous seasons between 4 to 6 of us have travelled to portland and seattle independently. Will they be eligible for tickets or not.

I hope not, or at least not until every paid member has an opportunity to buy one. Then there can be a second lottery for unpaid people.

I highly doubt that there will be many if any tickets sold once members have had first dibs

One incentive/added benefit for joining the Southsiders is that you will have the opportunity to travel to Portland and Seattle.

What's the deal with those who want to spend more time in the city, do we have to travel with the supporters?
  • In terms of ticket distribution, will all Southsiders be treated equally, or will seniority come into play?

For example, would a potential lottery be weighted?  Or, instead of a lottery, could we simply go through the list in order of membership number?  I believe EnglandFans use seniority.

What do ECS/Gorilla FC/Timbers' Army plan to do re: ticket distribution?

I think realistically at this point we simply have to go by 'when you pay'.  Although personally I like the idea of seniority based simply on travel, but that might be too messy.

Surely someone that has been travelling to aways regularly during previous years should have a opportunity to buy tickets before southside newcomers.

I think what is being suggested here is that away travel should be seniority based. I would guess the only fair way to judge seniority would be the official Southside number which still wouldn't account for others who travelled with The Southsiders or on ther own and were not actually paid Southsiders.

I really can't see any truly fair way to do it. First come first serve or seniority????

Lets remember that the club hasn't even told us if we will be getting an allocation or how many of the 500 that will be.

I really think there has to be some provision for seniority.   Having said that, there will be people who have joined recently largely to be a part of the travel.

Here's a general idea:  Say we have 500 tickets.  Have a window in which people must send in deposits.

If demand exceeds supply, then the first 300 or 400 are allotted based on length of membership.  After that, the remainder are done by lottery, so that everyone at least has a chance.   If  there's enough for everybody, we can allow members to buy for non-members.

Whatever the system, the sooner we can determine things the better - it gives people who get left out more time to try to find tickets other ways.

One more strike against the Sounders' false scarcity system.

This isn't an issue this year. My number is 180 and I'm brand new. Let anyone who was a paid Southsider last year buy a ticket, then do a lottery if necessary for the rest of us.

Unfortunately it is an issue. So you (and me)are new southsiders this year.i know at least 6 caps fans that are not southsiders that have been going to both seattle and portland for years.
Do you think they should have a chance at getting tickets for these two particular games before new southside members.

I do not. They've had years to support the group by buying a membership and decided not to. They can go in the lottery with the rest of us, if it comes to that.

I don't think that the Southsiders will end up getting all 500 tickets anyway tbh.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Club organising their own trips down.

I'm spending two weeks in the States in the lead up to the game, taking in the RSL and Chivas games too, so I'm only wanting a single ticket and no bus since I'm going to be down there anyway.

We also have to allow members who don't want to travel by bus the chance to go - as my referendum proposal above.

Until we know if we're getting any tickets as a group there's not much we can firmly decide

Based on what I'm reading then it would be fair for the club to withhold 40% of the allocation or so. As not all travelling support will want to be members, and not all members will buy tickets from the Southsiders, if significant others or families can't come too. I'm up for this trip, but so is my family, and we will be staying in the city a couple extra days as we've never gone and explored it, just driven right by. If I have to buy my tickets from the club so be it, however it's not my preference.

Just noticed in the matchday program from yesterday's game that there is an ad from Uniglobe for Away travel packages.
There is a pre-sale for season ticket holders from March 19th-May 11, for the Seattle game.
$159 for hosted bus, (beer?), game ticket.

I guess this is the partnership Tractor boy was mentioning in the RSL & Chivas thread.

  • Tractor Boy, could you get in touch with the club again and ask if the Southsiders will be allocated any tickets?  I'm sure you've already asked, but it would help to keep bugging them, as the Seattle trip is now less than three months away.

I'd really like to go on a Southsiders bus (which stops in Blaine for booze) than a bus organized by the front office that would likely be filled mostly with people from the grandstand.

I'm really disappointed with the club for selling a packaged deal (which has already started selling, according to Rico's post above) before even telling the Southsiders whether we will be allocated tickets or not.  Poor show from them.  I'm going to fire them off an email now, and I would encourage all Southsiders to do the same.

The tickets only package also goes against the rules that the Clubs have given all three Cascadia fan groups.  We have been told that away fans will not be allowed to enter the stadium on their own and must travel by coach into the stadium. Now our club is selling single tickets?  That goes directly against the Rules that Seattle is demanding.

And Chris has been asking every couple weeks since Jan.

  • Seattle's ECS (Emerald City Supporters) have been given a big ticket allocation for Cascadia matches from the Sounders' front office.  Not sure if the Timbers Army have already receive an allocation.  I have to go out for a few hours, but I'll put my "Southsiders' liaison to the Independent Supporters Council" hat on this evening and will do some research about this.
