    ARGH!

When it comes to Henry, I can't help but put aside my desire to play weakened opposition. I want to see him play in person, full stop. I've already told my partner this, and she is maybe okay with me spending money to see New York play later this year somewhere. Toronto? Ugh.

It's a shame because Henry was so much fun to yell at in New York last year.

If you can wait, I'm planning a trip next year to see the Caps play in NYC.

  • "Henry is recovering from a calf injury he sustained while training on his own during the international break." “I would guess a week should be enough,” Backe said.

Of course it will be, just enough time to skip over Vancouver and start fresh back in New York. What a joke. What will Beckham's excuse be this year?

Potentially, the Olympics. There has been some talk of him taking up one of the three overage spots for England.

Beckham,as well as Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy, were on Geat Britain team's 35 player list submitted to FIFA. Unless he is injured he is expected to make the 18 man list that has be be submitted in 2 weeks. He is also confirmed to be an Opening Ceremony ambassador. There is almost zero chance he will play in Vancouver in July or at all this year with LAG far outside the playoff picture.

This however is a good thing as better chance we're get 3pts

    I'm with Brenton.

Not only do I want to see these stars (Henry much more than Beckham) in th flesh at least once, I want th Caps to beat the best. Not only that it's bad for marketing the games to casuals.

    Too bad all around.

Now there manager isn't even coming (personal matter) and I would wager money that their big defender signing Wilman Conde won't be playing. If we don't absolutely hammer these guys I am going to be a little disappointed.

Confirmed. Wilman Conde not coming to Vancouver according to Tyler Green.

You know, I'd enjoy seeing Henry in person too, but if teams want to hamstring themselves like this when coming to play us then fucking go for it. We'll take the three points and go celebrate with vodka and red bull afterwards.

Wednesday night is also the Canadians home opener at Nat Bailey. One of my relatives already turned down my second 'Caps ticket in favour of the baseball game. I wonder if we will see a reduced number of fair weather fans.

The way we (whitecaps) are playing as a team lately, I think it makes no difference wether or not Henry or Beckham play for their MLS clubs against us.

Look at the Galaxy's place in the table for example. NY Red Bulls are 3rd in the east.......

and yet they have Beckham and Henry. It makes no difference in my books.

To see them in the flesh and get ticket sales above 21, 000 for these matches are all that really matters to me.

As with the President of many important organizations, all you need to do is look for the cadre of large gentlemen in dark suits and sunglasses.

Davide is climbing in my esteem, along with many others it seems. I love that he paraphrases "WHO ARE YA?" in these interviews and promos. First after Seattle (the whole what have they won/where have they played) and the "we aren't scared" in this one. LOVE IT.

It's anthem singer Marie Hui's birthday today. I propose we sing her happy birthday. Question is, when? Right before the national anthems? We risk getting cut off. Right after? We'll be drowned out by the cheering and she'll leave the field.

Would have to do it when she is anounced for it to make sence! It would be nice if she would not start the anthems until we were done.

    Warning ... cranky killjoy alert!

Singing Happy Birthday in public places is silly and overwrought. There will be 19,000 people there and only 365 days in the year. Are you going to sing it for everybody? There are probably 2 or 3 Southsiders with birthdays today, too.

Leave singing Happy Birthday to close family and friends. And tell restaurants to knock it off, too.

Okay, silly rant over. Resume your happiness.

  • BrentonBrenton
    Posts: 6,903

No one is suggesting we sing it to everybody, every Southsider or every fan in the building every single day. That would be silly and overwrought. But Marie sings to us and everyone else every game. Singing back to her seems like a nice thing to do.

A huge reason why we wanted to do Doo Doo Do Do oh Barry Robson is because it's a no brainer and no one has to learn anything. It's not like that will forever be his southsiders song. It was stated that he will be at the plaza so we thought that song becasue it is his staple and everyone knows the tune, no learning involved. I'd rather that be sung and have everyone sing it and he knows what it's for than have one that is made up and a few sing it and he's like "whet are they trying to do over there?"

We just wan there to be no doubt who we are singing to and like mentioned, this all came together in a last minute fashion and does not mean that no other songs can't be sung in the future.
