Euro 2012 - Predict the Group Winners

Let's see who knows their stuff and who doesn't.

Predict which two nations advance out of each group:

    Group A - Greece Russia

    Group B - Germany Netherlands

    Group C - Spain Ireland

Group D - France Sweden (ooops - originally had Ukraine but meant Sweden. Got my Blue and Yellow flagged countries mixed up)

(apologies if this thread has been started but it's not on first two pages - that means it doesn't exists

Group A - Russia Czech Republic

    Group B - Germany Netherlands

    Group C - Spain Croatia

    Group D - France England

I spent a lot of time deliberating on whether England would make it through, but in the end I think they have enough to do it, despite the annual choke job. Also how the hell are they 7 in fifa rankings

    Good thread btw.

QF - Holland bt Russia, Germany bt Poland, Spain bt Ukraine, Ireland bt France

Croatia have a really good team, last euro they won their group and beat Germany 2-1. They are my dark horse for this year. Also I dont think people can critisize any picks considering Greece won in 2004...

Here's a tip for Croatia matches - there will be lots of goals scored so take the over.

If they make it out of the group stages, it will be a miracle.

    Trust me - I know.

Italy dont get out of the groups

The Croats have to be the dark horse of the tourney, no miracle required. They should comfortably finish in the second spot behind a loss to Spain.

The_Real_Deal said: Croatia have lost their main striker Olic

Olic is not/was not their main striker, Jelavic and Kalinic along with Eduardo should provide some surprises.

I've seen enough of this squad over the last couple of cycles to know they're poised to make an impact before Bilic is gone.

Olic is their main striker. His loss cannot be understated. Jelavic has done nothing on the international stage. I think I would be better than Kalinic - he sucks. Eduardo is underrated. Mandzukic is in form and has produced for the national team - I rate him better than Jelavic.

Their back line is in absolute shambles. They are playing people out of position and playing people that have no business on the sqaud.

They'll finish bottom of the group with 1 or 2 points.

  • Unless we flop, then they'll be 3rd. We're either going to do really well, or really poorly, we're not going to squeak in or barely miss out.

I think you're being a bit hard on Jelavic though, for my money hes on better form with his club than any other aside from Da Silva.

Most of the action will come from the mids which even you have to admit is one of the best in the tourney. They've been together almost as long as the Dutch.

Srna, Modric, Kranjcar, Rakitic, Vukojevic and the dude from Hamburg I forget how to spell his name and I dont want to wikipedia right now.

As for the defense, if they don't play that hack Simunic I'll be happy.

Just call Croatia and Russia a hunch... all you need is a bit of lightning in a bottle to do well in this tournament... and I really rate Perisic and Jelavic and think they will have a breakout tournament to add to guys like Modric, Mandzukic for some goal production.

Same goes for Russia... Dzagoev is the one I am watching closely with high hopes for some dazzling performances on the world stage.

Just really excited for some top class match ups, no matter who is playing.

    Predictions: For advancing:

Group A: Czech R. & Greece (darkhorse: Poland) Group B: Germany & Holland (darkhorse: Portugal) Group C: Spain & Ireland... yes my heart tells me so not head (darkhorse: Italy) Group D: France & Sweden (as with group c - darkhorse & 'heart pick' is England)

Now for the reality game: Diving Scores (max score is 6.0):

    Group A: Russia (3.5) & Greece (3.0) Group B: Portugal (4.5) & Holland (4.0) Group C: Spain (6.0) & Italy (5.0) Group D: France (5.5)

Spain are runaways with this unless Iniesta draws an injury from someone connecting during simulation....(how times have changed - Italy will finish 3rd in this category)

NOTE: Petition to bring back Graham Scott for fan reports!!!! This man was entertaining getting drunk at pubs when providing reports with fans in '98... Please bring him back!!!

There is no way anyone beats Portugal. Pepe will imagine a hand near his face and immediately stab his own eye. Ronaldo will slap the ground in frustration from a sitting position every four minutes. Only Meireles' tattoos won't dive.

Home teams get a good bump at tourneys. I figured that's probably enough for Poland to squeak through in a weak group.

LOL I wrestled with that Brenton. Portugal was my darkhorse for that predection as well - it's like you read my mind.... Such talented sides in this competition... if only they could stay on their feet we as fans of the sport would all be rewarded for it... but I won't hold my breath....

What the group of death - group A is. Has the 10th 12th 15th and 16th best teams in the tourney!

A: Russia, Czech B: Germany, Netherlands C: Spain, Croatia D: France, Sweden

Portugal is going to get through somehow and ruin all the fun and group A will be exciting to watch and erratic. France is going to beat Germany in the final 2-1 with all three goals from Ribery.

Oh, and the semis will be the top two from B and the top two from D.
