May 23, 2012 - Whitecaps FC @ Toronto FC - Voyageurs Cup Final Leg 2 (R)

And yes we are the favorites going into tonight's final vs TFC, and if we lose it'll be incredibly disappointing/soul-crushing but seeing how TFC has nothing else to play for this year things like that can happen sometimes. Like you said, even Chelsea can be the 6th best team in the EPL yet be the best team in Europe. It makes no sense but sometimes when teams actually play each other odd things can happen.

That's why it's great - we all have different definitions of success and failure.

Let's just say that my first time watching the Whitecaps was 4 years ago vs. TFC in the Canadian Championship. I've been wanting them to win this since then.

The league is the league. I would have rated importance: Supporters Shield, MLS Cup, Amways, playoffs then Cascadia.

This year it's the same order without Supporters Shield (which I think means less with unbalanced schedule).

Everybody has their opinion. None is wrong.

Whitecaps are 21/10 for a win tonight and Toronto FC at 7/5 and draw 21/10. So bookies have Toronto FC as the more likely to win tonight. I fancy the draw at 21/10 myself

So if we win......would people rather see us play prelim and group stages thru the summer and miss a playoff spot OR miss Con CL and make MLS playoffs. Just wondering.....

Frankly I want both but thats obvious and boring.

One-off cup games (which this now essentially is) are always dicey regardless of the opponent. Lets just hope our guys play like they did vs Seattle rather than as they did last Wednesday. If we play well we should win, but its down to the team actually doing that.

Tonight is a big night in determining the result of this season.

For instance - ask a Chelsea supporter if their season was a success 6 weeks ago and they would have laughed. 6th in the league. Season going nowhere. Outsiders in the Champs League. A couple of trophies changed their tune real quick.

The exact opposite is the case for the Caps IMO. A good season, playoffs, etc will all be undone by a loss tonight.

You're comparing winning the Voyageurs Cup to winning the UEFA Champion's League?

Winning the Canadian Championship does not make or break this season. Yes, it is important for us to win and yes, losing would be massively disappointing but the truth is that winning this cup is only a stepping stone to something greater.

Let me put it this way, if we win tonight but get eliminated from the CCL in the group stages, then proceed to fizzle in MLS play and finish 7th in the West, would you consider this season a massive success?

htdhe.net or hdthe.net (can't remember which it is). They've had streams of the other VC games.

    Success - yes.

I'm not comparing the two tournaments but rather how getting a cup quickly changes ones definition of success/failure.

Each of us prioritize differently. Going into this season, all I could think about was the Caps winning the Canadian Champ and going to CCL. Others may wish for Cascadia domination. Other a first round playoff exit.

That's why in each of my posts I said "I consider" or "I think". This is all subjective.

Like someone mentioned a couple of months ago - their home town club in England...all anybody cares about is beating their local rivals.

No prisoners. Just sobbing shells of men that resemble TFC players left on the pitch.

No real surprises in either line-up. Rennie went (conservatively) with proven players. Winter went with what he had.

The Prelim stage has been eliminated. There is only a 4-game group stage now.

So CCL participation shouldn't affect the league campaign at all.

I hate the "anything can happen" point of view towards a huge game like this. These guys are professionals. If they are good enough, they will prevent "anything" from happening.

"Bad luck" is a pathetic excuse. If you're not good enough, then you will not win the major championship.

I don't think it's great. I'd rather everyone agree on what's important, like we do in hockey.

Aside from the red plastic buoys, that place looks more empty than Edmonton did.

Too defensive. Need an attacking cm. before the strikers get bagged from running so much.

Ugh why do we play so bad vs tfc?? We can't seem to keep the ball at all, very frustrating. And yes, the reffing has been as bad as the standard set in this tournament so far.

Very flat. Can't seem to hold onto the ball, haven't seen more than a couple passes in a row. The midfield sucks, need to go with Chiumiento, and maybe Salgado for LeToux up front.

    My analysis of first half:

-Hassli is unfortunately not a 90 player right now -Koffie and Rochat should of put those 2 in -Bonjour should watch the holding before we get called for a dreadful penalty

I hate to say it but I smell penalties....stress level at it's all time high right now for the Whitecaps.

Let's not get in to the officiating. Whitecaps have no one to blame but themselves for that half.

  • Start Chiumiento to creat more through balls.

Time to get Dede on. TFC will sit back and play the counter, no need for JMD on the pitch now.

We are 53 minutes in and there has not been a lick of offensive threat from the caps. That's the players fault.

The fact there have been no subs is Rennies.

Let's see Omar, Dede, or Mattocks.

It doesn't matter how hard Davidson went down. De Guzman deliberately struck another player in the face, after already pushing another down. That's a straight red no matter how you spin it.

How long has the ball been in the Whitecaps' end now? I hope they realize that they need at least one goal to go through. A scoreless draw achieves nothing.
