It's just not that complicated, people! (sobbing) It's not that complicated...
Apparently, it IS complicated, as you need to add "at left midfield" in order for people to get it.
I like how my thread on how to spell a guy's name has been turned into the general Teibert thread. Because now they see "thread started by Lord_Bob" next to "Russell Teibert Thread" and it looks creepy!

I always thought it was Russel Tiebert - anyway hope he doesn't get left back.

Well, if you had prefaced your spelling lesson with the phrase "This is how you spell the family name of Canadian Soccer Jesus correctly:" we wouldn't be in this mess. It's about clarity, but you're a writer ... you already know ;-)

And as you'd know if you read my blog, I think clarity is for suckers! (insert 1,500 words boiling down to "being good is good")
You get paid by the word then? =))
He definitely deserves minutes. Has he been hurt recently? Because I'm shocked he hasn't gotten much time this year.

No, healthy and practicing. I guess Rennie is just thinking differently than the rest of us.
Hopefully with Salgado and Harris injured and Tan "suspended" we'll get to see more of Canadian Soccer Jesus. I'll have his 2-stick at the ready for Sunday!

I'd love if Russel got to see some time on the pitch but sadly, I don;t hink it will happen soon.
I would think he's still out of consideration for any minutes, with even Nanchoff ahead of him on the left side.
He was at least mentioned by Rennie yesterday when asked about Salgado's replacement, so at least they remember he exists!
Lately, he's been training with the defenders, either as a left back, or as an attacking player for them to defend.
Congratulations to Russel Tiebert on his first CMNT call up!
"Doneil Henry, Russell Teibert, Evan James and Lucas Cavallini will all be taking part in their first camp with Canada’s national team. All four players were part of the Canada team that made it to the semi-final stage at CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifiers in March 2012."

I didn't rate James in that comp but really liked the other three.
I'm only bummed in the sense that I thought we might see him play on the wing against Dallas with the other guys gone. I wonder if he'll see the field for Canada.
^ Well Rennie isn't the coach so there's a chance....
James' selection is odd, he was rubbish for the U23's. Must have been a last minute addition.
I sure hope there isn't any CSA politics coming into play - one player from each MLS team, that might explain Teibert and James?
I honestly thing theres a better chance that he would play Dallas since there are so many players on international duty..
I've been told that the reason Teibert isn't in the reckoning is because the current management don't rate him as a winger and in particular doubt his ability to get past players the way they want/need him to in the current system.
That's why they've been looking at the left back remodelling.
Don't shoot the messenger LB!

Maybe, but I doubt it. To be honest I've given up on Rennie as far as developing young players. No coach is perfect and this is obviously Rennie's weakness, which sucks because as a Canadian, I sure wish I had a Canadian to cheer for.

I don't know if we can judge this after only a partial season. Is the signing of 30+ vets like Miller & O'Brien a strategy to achieve goals NOW, while allowing youngsters to develop to the level Rennie believes they need to be at? OR...he doesn't like kids. He did give Salgado a good run pre-broken foot. I think another year or two has to pass before we can really judge this.
That being said - I would love to see what Tiebert and the other youngsters could do with some first team minutes.
Yeah, playing time on the senior team doesn't equal development. Sometimes exactly the opposite.

Have they tried playing him in the middle of the park where he spent his entire youth career? Had a number of good turns there.
Why am I asking you, I know they haven't.
You might hate me for this but I think he should leave the Caps or his own career is just going to be in a downward spiral.
It's sad as I would rather see these young Canadians breakthrough, and I don't want them going to play elsewhere, but if they can't even get minutes in the V's Cup games then what is there for them really?
That's why I'm glad Fisky is looking at German options as he's too nice a guy and talented a player to be sitting twiddling his thumbs.

The fact that Teibert, Alderson & Clarke have 0 min combined through 23 first team games and 4 CC games is a good indication. There was a point in the season where these guys weren't even getting reserve minutes. Unfortunately you cant develop if you dont play, so hoping your going to get an MLS calibre player through practice alone isn't realistic.

Sad to say but I agree.
If Russell can break this squad then I doubt Fisk will either. I am with Lord Bob and don't know why Teibert isn't deployed as a number 10. I am hoping he leaves the club as well in the offseason, but where would he go USL Pro?

Oh, I agree with you on those three...just playing devil's advocate, I don't think we can judge Rennie on his ability to develop players yet. Maybe he just doesn't rate them highly, in which case we can judge him on his eye for talent? With the way he runs his game subs (late in games), would these guys get any meaningful time on the pitch anyway?
Again, not disagreeing, just trying to get a discussion going...

I am a bit confused by this. Is this because he is a possession player and they just want to play over the top to the front three?

He would be a solid player at Edmonton, and I imagine he could play most places in NASL right now. He's still young enough to go down, grow a bit more, come back up and be a solid player. That said, he's also young enough I wouldn't completely write him off. He may not get a shot this year, but if he does well enough to impress a bit in pre-season next year, he could still have a shot at seeing some time next year.
He has an EU passport. I doubt very much he has to go to the 2nd or 3rd tier in North America. I would think a loan to a B2 or B3 club would make the most sense -maybe even the Swiss league depending on their import restrictions.
Played!
great to see him on the pitch after so long.
I was so excited. Well on Rennie for giving him those minutes over Harvey. Now he will have seen some reward for his last year of hard work and hopefully will go to canada camp with some confidence and maybe earn a game from them.

rsl scored after he came on. it's all his fault!!!!
Nice to see him getting some minutes. 30+ vets to get the team solid and playoff bound plus they serve as mentors and the yardstick for the younger players to aim for. Good for now and great for the future. Our ranks of 19-24 year old players will be starting in the next 3+ years as the older players age. Great short & long term planning.
No need to rush players that are not ready. Are you listening TFC fans?
PS. RT strikes me as more of a YP Lee player than the Rochat type. Has anyone thought about him at RB? I know he is left footed but quick feet, offensive threat, hustle back on defense, good crosses.... sounds a lot like YP Lee.
Hey, Lord_Bob, how do you feel about turning a promising attacking midfield and left winger turned left back into a right back?

Unfortunate, then, that his defending yesterday was pretty poor.
So you can`t display the same qualities as Lee playing on the left?
I think Rennie should be commended. I think RT was given minutes mostly to give him some confidence going into his Canada team experience. Good coaching / managing if thats the case.
