If only there were some sort of page on the world wide web, a "web page" if you will, where one could input a word or phrase and the "web page" could give you information about that word or phrase.

And yes, I had to google it too.

Okay, after googling it, I still think it would have been more interesting had it been some kind of reference to the wet celery and the flying helmet.

I have a slight bias, but the game went more or less according to how it would have been drawn up by Matteo.

I thought they played brilliantly (and were also lucky for sure...) against a team widely tipped to demolish them. Put in a huge effort, good organisation and showed that the Barca defence can be weak.

It'll be a bit like when we beat KC tonight.

They were outshot 23-5. But for a post and several outstanding Cech saves this was 3 or 4 to 1.

Surely we know enough about soccer to know that possession and winning are negatively correlated, this isn't hockey. Chelsea committed to a strategy and executed it and took the figurative 3 points. This isn't Chelski anymore, this was a pretty gutsy effort from a side that hasn't had a burner of a domestic season.

They aren't negatively correlated, there's no correlation. I'm just saying if your game plan revolves around allowing tons of scoring chances and having your goalie bail you out, you may be doing it wrong.

How would set your side up against the best team in the world?

  • ChrisChris
    Posts: 5,415

Being bereft of both a side and a fixture against the best team in the world, I probably wouldn't.

I merely point out that if that devastation had been accurately reflected on the scoresheet, Chelsea would be fielding a reserve side in the second leg to conserve energy for a game that matters.

Chelsea played good, Cech great and the posts were fantastic. Barca takes their home leg 3-0 and moves on.

Has anyone ever done the stats on time of possession "in the other team's half"? Sure lots of MLS teams can keep passing the ball around but Barca are pretty unique in that they do it in the other team's half more than any team I've ever seen.

Just old time of possession doesn't tell the story much. TOP in the offensive half does.

I've seen some assessment of that on Zonal Marking, but it's just once-off stats about certain players passing in the opposition's half rather than a team-wide/season-long examination of it.

Didn't you hear? In addition to amalgamating the Europa League into the Champions' League, it has been decided to lump in the CONCACAF Champions' League as well. More money from TV deals, and all that.
