Currently preparing for the final of the Cyprus Cup, where they’ll face France on Tuesday, Canadian coach John Herdman said his side will be heading back to the West Coast in April to live, train and play together in a residency camp as part of their final preparations for the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

It looks like our ladies are coming back to Vancouver. I know that dates haven't been set yet, but am I correct in assuming we are going to keep up supporting our girls at the practices/games while they're here?
Moved to Canada National Team
I for one will and will strongly will be pushing others to do the same.
It would be nice to see the ladies get better support here than the men do in Toronthole and show up some of the asshats at the CSA.
Been wondering lately if the suits at the CSA are pondering making Vancouver and BC Place home of the women's national team.
I hope so.
They may see it as throwing a bone at the West Coast, but the recent tournament was fun and I'd like to support our ladies much more often!
I for one oppose the Vancouver becoming the home of the women's national team. I would love matches, but to grow the game they need to play all over the country.
I would much rather have Women's National Team matches than our Men's team of disinterested players.
I'm happy to support our women's team. I had a blast at the WOQ and they seemed to really appreciate our efforts.
I'm happy to support them too, however like Brett said above, I don't want them to be based here. I don't want them based anywhere. They need to move about the country. Just like all the Canadian national teams should.

My sentiments exactly. That tournament was some of the most fun I've had in a long time

Ditto!
The Cypress Cup final is live right now. There is a stream DM me if you want the link, as I was told not to post it publicly.

Exactly this.

I remember hearing something during the WOQ to the effect that Heardman had not yet chosen where he would be living and implying that : a) Future choice of base for the Womens' program would be influenced by this b) Vancouver was "in the mixer" as a possible choice for him.
Does anyone know if he's bought a house yet and if so, where ?
Southside Nation,
A couple of years ago, I took in one of their friendly matches at Cloverdale Athletic Park versus like a U18 Men's side. They did well and it was good times. It will be nice to have them back in the area.
Much Love,
Forever A Team

This sort of comment serves no useful purpose. Our women aren't more "interested", they're better compared to their opponents than our men are. Canada's relative success in womens sport is due to our society valuing and creating more equality between the sexes than places like Guatemala, not due to our women having more "interest" on the field than our men.
Perhaps a WNT vs Southsiders FC game is in order? :p as a defender i'd be up against Sinclair among others!
maybe once we get some practice hahah. they would destroy us on fitness i think
If you're going to get beaten by a bunch of women it might as well be the best.

I would expect she would have a higher possession % than our entire team, so you'd probably be up against her for most of the game ;)
I think we should hold a mini-tournament with the street soccer league. Somehow.

I would have to say that many young male soccer players our nation is producing are not extremely interested in playing for Canada. Some of our best are willing to jump to another country if they get the call. Some of the performances our men put out sometime show of disinterest (with the usual blame the CSA for their performances).
Whereas, I see the women totally dreaming of playing for Canada and giving it everything they have. (Leroux is the exception of course).
Do you honestly see that coming from our top men's players as they get into their late teens? Not with nearly as many as the women.
Does my comment serve no purpose? It is not intended to do anything other than share my observation of the current gap between our Women's team and Men's team.

While I personally don't agree with Oldfans opinion, i do believe that saying it "serves no useful purpose" is rude and condescending. It's an online forum, you might disagree with someones opinion but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be saying it ... that is if it is in the correct thread, and follows forum rules ;)

In each case, they have multiple citizenry, and the other nationality is ranked higher than our national team.

LeRoux is in the same boat as Hoillet and JdG2 - she has other (better) options. It seems pretty clear that the only people who dream of playing for Canada are those with no other (better) options, whether they're male or female. That's hurtful to people like me who are Canadian and only Canadian, but it's reality. We only lose females to the US programme because what Dutch-Canadian, Serbian-Canadian or Mexican-Canadian girl would want to represent those countries rather than Canada? None of them. Yet for male athletes, those countries obviously represent a much more attractive option; therefore we lose out to them.

I was trying to be more polite than saying "that comment is total crap", but I guess I'll use the blunt version. The gap between our mens and womens teams isn't about interest level, it's about the number of countries where the primary sport is soccer (for the men) compared to the number of countries where there is no high level female soccer played (for the women). It's also about the difference between the sport being fully professional for men, and an amateur pursuit for women. It's important to recognise this, and not fall into the "they care more than the men do" trap, which does a disservice to the men, and perpetuates thinking which isn't accurate. Cheers.
While I don't fully agree with OldFan, my sense from the women is that they are more excited than the men. In general. I've never seen any of the men get as excited as the women did during the WOQ or the World Cup or the Cyprus Cup. Now, that could be because I generally pay more attention to the women's team. Or it could be that the women have just embraced social media more rampantly.
It could be that the women's club game isn't as developed as the men's, so the national team game is more important to them while the club game is more important to the men. We still see some men (Hainault, I'm looking at you) that can't be bothered to play every game for the men's team.
I could be way off base, but that's just my impression.
Christine Sinclair's lived in the United States for something like seven years. Pretty sure she could have pulled on the Stars and Stripes if she'd felt a little Leroux in her.

No she couldn't. She has to have citizenship. Not just a green card.
She still lives in Portland Lord_Bob.
piltdownman & I were on the plane with her a couple of weeks ago, and when we spoke to her she said "I live here"

Not once you're cap-tied.
The Canadian women's national soccer team will host China in an international friendly in Moncton, N.B., on May 30.

While it was great to have the women here it is nice to see at least one of Canada's teams is actual "National"
Tomorrow Canwnt vs Brazil 10am PT streamed on FirstRowSports.eu Or RojaDirecta.me
Time to dust off that #waxthosebrazilians hashtag
Any personal interest in this game Brett? ;)
Canada were 2-1 winners over Brazil today. Sinclair with the brace!
From what I see on Twitter it looks like the WNT are back in town. Does anyone have any info on training / game schedules ?
I only ask out of patriotic curiosity...honest.
I believe there are a few in town. By my count, about 4 I think. I think they are training on their own before they head off to camp before their next game
Keep calm, gents.
@KaylynKyle: Travel day again...Going to miss home but so stoked about moving to Vancouver!! #westcoastliving
Oh right, aren't they doing training camp here before their friendlies and before London?
They have posted it on twitter, so I don't feel it is wrong to post here, that they are training in Vancouver and all living together in yaletown. Rumor has it we might see some of them at a southsiders event. :-"
So that's what really happened to Bus B.
Reserved for the WNT for the Portland game. Woohoo
I think they might actually be in the Olympic Athletes Village neighbourhood, but just a hunch.

Oldfan may be moving to that area... now I have more incentive.
OldFan has previously stated he has a ladyfriend. OldFan's ladyfriend may not share OldFan's enthusiasm.
OldFan's ladyfriend doesnt need to know which bushes OldFan will be hiding in with binoculars
Chris said: OldFan has previously stated he has a ladyfriend. OldFan's ladyfriend may not share OldFan's enthusiasm.
OldFan's ladyfriend recently decided she just wants to "be friends". So, I am wide open for the girls from the Women's Team. Come and get me.

If OldFan can pull that off, Krisaug5 will buy him a beer. Or buy a beer and leave it at a predetermined location to continue OldFan's annonymity
I think Old Fan is hoping that it is the women that pull it off, so to speak
