It's funny, Lenarduzzi says the Whitecaps won't comment on that kind of speculation.....then comments when asked about the David Bentley, speculation, saying that "seems way out there....I don't know where that one came from."

Sure makes it seem like the Robson talk, could have some legs to it.

  • I love how BL said they don't comment on speculation (Barry Robson) and then a couple paragraphs later he comments on speculation (David Bentley).

What's REALLY strange is how the Duze says he won't comment on speculation, and then in the next breath comments on speculation.

  • May is a long time to wait before bolstering the midfield. At the same time that this looks like a great addition, it's somewhat concerning if no smaller upgrades to the midfield are made in the meantime.

Also, Lenarduzzi saying he won't comment on speculation and then proceeding to do so a few moments later was classic. Chuckles.

You forgot to mention the Duze contradicting himself by not commenting on speculation, then commenting on speculation. You can probably edit before anyone notices.

Given how badly we lacked secondary scoring last season, having a midfielder with Robson's goal scoring capabilities would be huge...

    Really hope this is true....

What's weird is how Lenarduzzi mentions the horse is dead, yet they then continue to beat it.

    Lenarduzzi's a funny one....

That aside, if we did land Robson that would be a fantastic piece of business. His best days could be said to be behind him, but he's still got exactly the skills we're needing to stamp some authority in the midfield.

Was chatting to Steve (Pandher) after training today about the midfield and we were saying how no-one that's there just now really gets you excited.

Robson may not be overly exciting, but he's a grafter and gets some good goals and assists.

EDIT - Not sure where the hell these extra international slots are going to come from mind you if we get him and if Sulley works out.

I loved him when he played for Celtic. Gave his all every game and he scored very timely goals. He would fit very nicely into our midfield. A much better addition than, say Kris Boyd.

  • This would be a great move. Definitely a much better addition than Kris Boyd. Robson is a quality player, and a hard worker.

We don't know as it's speculation and Lenarduzzi doesn't comment on that.

Now waiting for our man Steve to come up with something good. :)

That one's a bit too easy. But in case you were wondering: no, I wouldn't mind being "completely intertwined" with a couple of them, myself.

I'm so excited about this signing. We needed that hard working guy the midfield.

I see no holes in that 11.

    According to Marc Weber's Twitter

Caps to sign Scottish CM Barry Robson in May, according to England's Daily Mail. Currently with Boro. #MLS

I agree that we need more Canadians, but can you list more than one who is at the level of Robson or Bentley that want to join MLS? I'd love Atiba to join the Caps but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

I'm resigned to the fact we need to be patient for Tiebert and Alderson to become regulars...

  • Robson is left footed, scores and sets up beauty goals, works his arse off. He will tick many boxes on the wishlist. Will work anywhere along the midfield row, can also play a bit of left back if needed. His left foot will be another addition to our already big threat on deadballs around the box, will be immense on corner kicks (think of what Charlie Adam's left peg added to Liverpool's corner threats when he joined up from Blackpool)

    I LOVE this signing.

As for Canadians, there are none as good as Robson save perhaps Hutch and JDG2 as far as midfielders go, and neither are going to come to MLS anytime soon.

We're a professional club team. People need to get over the lack of Canadians in the side. We are not the CSA nor the type of business that should have a core mission to supply players to the CSA. It should be an added benefit/spinoff of running a good development structure under the first team like in any other country where you're developing domestic as well as foreign players for your own use and for sale.

Can you speak to Robson's, ball winning/defensive prowess a bit...

I've read numerous accounts of him being a high motor player that's fairly solid defensively (as one would expect if he can play some RB)......but Lord Bob today, seemed to allude to Robson being almost a liability when it comes to defensive responsibilities.

What are your thoughts on him defensively?

On paper he certainly seems like the engine in the middle of the park that we desperately need, who can add some offense from midfield, improve our set pieces, and mix it up, when need be.

A Boro fans opinion on Robson..

"Robson will bring everything to your team mate. He's a proper goal scoring midfielder and work horse. Wears his heart on his sleeve.

Will single-handedly drive a team forward and make things happen. He's getting old a bit now so he probably fancies finishing his last few years in MLS.”

When asked about Robson's defensive/tackling abilities...

"Yea, he has it all. He'll cover the whole pitch and loves a tackle. Sort of player you want in a derby match. Scored goals against both Sunderland and Newcastle (both our local rivals) in recent years, both excellent goals.

Just read in one of your newspapers that he can also play as a defender. That's not really true, he'd be massively wasted and out of position there.

He can play behind a striker or as a make-shift centre forward though. Basically, he'd be a class signing in that league. He's one of the best midfielders in this division and has Champions League experience with Celtic.”

  • Dave Norman tweeted in response to Schaad that "Will be a good signing. Experience, goals, and will be responsible defensively after playing in SPL and England"

a friend of a friend who's a massive boro supporter called him Boro's best player this year.

  • This one is essentially confirmed now. Let's pray he doesn't pick up an injury before the move!

  • Any guesses on wages?

  • Apparently Rennie wants Bocanegra too. http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/4132878/Boca-to-join-Baz-at-Caps.html

This would likely mean the end of Boxall which would free up an international spot. Convenient that. The only problem is who actually holds Bocanegra's MLS rights? Or would he go into a lottery?

I would think Chicago would still have his rights as his contract expired there and he signed at Fulham as a free agent. Where as if Chicago had sold him they loose his rights.

I think both these deals would require the use of DP spots. I wonder though, if the Rangers will demand a healthy transfer fee? I mean, as they go into administration they will be required to get salary, especially long term salary off the books.
