WFC Daily/Fulltime (Pregame/Post Game Radio Broadcasts) Discussions
  • Since WFC is the most frequent source of Whitecaps info and usually brings in all the "big players" of the Whitecaps MSM world, I thought we could have a static thread to discuss things that some out of it. If Mod's think this is clutter please feel free to delete/merge.

Obviously the Seba signing is the hot news of the day, but I found it curious on yesterday’s WFCD that they said Ben Fisk wasn't going to Arizona. Did anyone perceive this as meaning he won't win a contract this year?

I'm not sure I would read it that way. To be honest, I dont think he'd get many minutes irst team, adn this may just be club cutting travel costs as they bought out jarju and such... I could be way off though

  • Southside Nation,

Ben Fisk will be playing for the Residency this weakend in Cali. The 'Caps are taking Callum and Caleb with them though. You could read it either way really...they have made up their mind on Ben (either in the positive or in the negative) and want him to play matches/help the Residency this weekend in their League match. Caleb they are still deciding on...this seems hard as we all know we have many strikers. Callum is a quality young 'Keeper and I'm guessing they want to have 4 'Keepers for all the small matches they will be playing down in Arizona.

    Much Love,

    Forever A Team

P.S. Ben didn't seemed bothered by it at training yesterday when asked...a sign of his professionalism. Also, it wasn't new news to him.

I didn't completely expect to sign him this year but it seems like a good experience to be training with the club, which I would guess he will do again at some point.

Gonna be a fun @WFCDaily episode today. Looks like Sebastien Le Toux will join us, plus Bob Lenarduzzi & Martin Rennie - #WhitecapsFC #MLS

We're pretty goddamn lucky to have a show like this dedicated to our squad.

    Schaad's ethusiasm is brilliant.

WFC Daily is one of my few must-listen podcasts. I also keep tabs on MLS Extratime Radio, and some other non-soccer related shows.

Peter Schaad is the best, he almost seems like the only guy in the media who has a true passion for what he does. Every show he brings his A-Game, we ought to give him a trophy or something.

I agree and I strongly recommend that everyone adds the podcast to whatever player they use so that it downloads automatically. It would be nice if we could pad their readership numbers to make sure the show thrives. I imagine most markets don't have this luxury and just have something weekly like Fulltime. We are lucky to have both.

+1 I have been downloading the podcasts since the beginning of last season. Unfortunately can't listen live at work. I wish they could get the podcasts uploaded quicker though - like right after the show airs so that I can dowload it before I leave the office and listen to it on my way home. It seemed they were pretty good at getting this done through stretches of time last year but have started out slow this year.

Anyways, I love that we have this show and certainly hope they can attract more listeners. It great that Martin Rennie will feature every Monday and I like the little bits of EPL banter with Carl Valentine.

Pre game at doolins would be epic with all us Southsiders in the house but but pre games at Doolin's are a mad house so that wouldn't work.

I guess more of us will have to head back to Doolin's after the matches!

Without names, there was a intoxicated individual who was almost up in Rennie's face hooting and hollaring while Michael was trying to interview Rennie. He was way out of line and a huge embarassment as a whole. It was getting to the point of no return.

Lets just leave it at that, an unfortunate drunken incodent, more of an embarassment to the group rather than a major problem.

  • If anyone is so intoxicated that they are making themselves (and us) look stupid, I'd suggest that one of the bar staff is informed so that they can make a decision to eject that individual.

True, but there's kinda obnoxious drunk, and there's actually legitimately getting kicked out of a bar obnoxious drunk. All it might take is someone to step up and say hey, look buddy, cool your jets. It is the responsibility of all Southsiders to make sure we are being portrayed in a favourable light.

The problem I see with that is that he is drunk and still being served.

but there are those people out there who are obnoxious when SOBER.... That's my point, is someone may not need to be "throw out of a bar" drunk in order to paint a bad image for us. Look how many people yell "WOOOOO" into a camera during a news broadcast just to be "that guy"

They'll use uni-directional mics for the broadcast at Doolins. Very little of the sound that's not directed into the mic is heard.

Was a great show. I really could listen to Rennie speak all day, he seems pretty honest while still being politically correct. Duze kind of placed an awkward answer to question of resigning Le Toux. Obviously they wouldn't have spoke about it yet, but the reality is tat next year he could go to Europe on a Free and we would be out our allocation fee...

Yeah, the fact they'll be having Rennie on every Monday is great...although he answers things in a fairly PC manner, I always find he reveals a little something in every interview that we didn't know before....

I thought the Duze was pretty straight forward re: a Le Toux resigning.....said they hadn't discussed it with him yet, but said if he continues to play as he has the last two years (which they fully expect him to do) then they plan to resign him.

I suspect if Le Toux has a strong first half, he'll be getting an offer to be a DP going forward...

Even if LeToux is just a one year wonder he could prove very useful. After such a disasterous season the Caps need some wins to instil more confidence with such a young lineup. Veterans like Lee, DeMerrit, and LeToux have the potential to be great mentors.

Today's was one of the best shows ever. Le Toux was clearly still coming to terms with being angry at Philadelphia - can't blame him for that.

This is the Impression I got from the Duze's comment. Worst case scenario is that he changes the culture, we win some games and then he moves on to Europe.

I would glady pay him 400,000 and use a DP spot (as reported in Philly) if he settles in here.

If he performs as we expect he will, I would spend more than $400,000 (and the inherent DP spot) on him. Whether we spend $375,000 or $3.75 million, it counts the same on the cap. Its not my money, so I am all for keeping him happy. Again, if he performs.

  • He was asking for just under DP salary for a new contract in Philly. We might not have to use a DP spot to sign him, although his salary would still be a big cap hit.

You mean 4-3-3 right? They said camilo was out left with harris right and le toux behind hassli up the middle so i assumed it still was 4-3-3 with le toux the centre of the mid 3

Nah, the lineup mentioned was: F F: Hassli, Le Toux L M M R: Camilo, Marques, Thorrington, Harris

No mention of a diamond so it sounds like a straight 4-4-2.

Got to think that getting Le Toux caused a rethink in tactics. I really liked Camilo when he was out wide. I felt he got lost at times amid the taller, stronger central defenders. Only disappointment I had in what Valentine was relaying was that Koffie wasn't mentioned!

With the 4-4-2 getting discussed again though, one has to wonder what's in store for Chiumiento... He really doesn't seem to fit that style.
