Be careful to uncheck the boxes you don't want, they are sneaky bastards and will try to include priority seating, and flex fare nonsense.
I have negotiated a special price with The Mark Twain Hotel http://www.hotelmarktwain.com/ The Hotel group discount code is" SOUTHSIDER"
The rate is $105 SGL/DBL occ plus 15.5% tax. $15 extra person charge. You have an option of a standard 1 bed room, or a standard 2 bedded room. You may book at www.hotelmarktwain.com or by calling 1-415 673 2332 or their call centre 1 510 628 4400. The price is just $6 per room more than last year, which isn't bad considering it's over Easter long weekend.
Match Ticket link https://www.wepay.com/events/42091
Our designated pre-match bar is The Utah .http://www.hotelutah.com 500 4th Street @ Bryant, San Francisco • (415) 546-6300. Last year when we got there it was Happy Hour with $2 pints!
The match is at Buck Shaw Stadium at Santa Clara University. All Vancouver Whitecaps fans are asked to enter and exit the stadium through Gate A. Our seating is in Section A. Our section will be treated as general admission.
Buck Shaw Stadium 500 El Camino Real Santa Clara, CA 95053
If you are driving yourself to the stadium, please park in Lot 1, 2 or 3. Avoid Lot 4 as that is where the San Jose supporters have their pre-match tailgate. Parking in Lot 1 or 2 will cost $20. Lot 3 is a bit further, so costs $15. Click the link below for a parking map. http://www.sjearthquakes.com/sites/defa ... ng_map.jpg
As far as transportation from Downtown SF. You can take the Caltrain (www.caltrain.com) down from San Francisco. It’s the cheapest option and you can drink on the train. Get your take out cups and booze from the Safeway right opposite the San Francisco Caltrain Station.

Nicely done. This all sounds pretty reasonable.
Thanks Chris. Really looking forward to another Californian away trip!
Thanks for the info. Can't wait for my first 'Caps road trip and to meet up with all you guys. The wife and I are driving down and making a mini vacation out of the trip but will likely want to meet up with you all at The Utah.
Sue it's supposed to be working right now
email Marcela Mendoza mmendoza@ctwohotels.com
Never mind; I figured it out. The code is "Southsider" not "Southsiders." Want to edit your original post to reflect that? ;-)
No kidding, geez! Who put this guy in charge? :-D
I was giving him the benefit of the doubt, though- more likely it was the person who entered it on the hotel's website. I once snagged some pretty good concert tickets when the presale word wasn't working on Ticketmaster's website and I guessed, correctly, that whoever set it up had spelled it wrong. :-P
Thanks for the confidence guys :-B
Just checked the email again, and it was SOUTHSIDERS, so I guess when they entered it, it was their error
Wow great job on getting the info out to us! You are the real deal
The Caltrain arrival time in Santa Clara is wrong, too (should be 5:43), but Chris can blame that on the pain meds if he wants. Departure time is what's most important anyway. :-\"
Ticket link added to initial post
Thanks for the link Chris. I am a recently joined Southsider and have just purchased two tickets for SJ away for me and my wife through the link in the initial post. I have printed my receipt but am confused as to how the tickets will be sent or collected. Hoping you can enlighten me as to how this will work.
I'd have thought Will Call would be the easiest option.
Is there a difference in price at "checkout"?
Chris, It didn't give me an option. There was a note on the original order page that said they will be available at Will Call or will be mailed. It didn't allow me to choose one or the other, nor did it confirm how they would be delivered in my purchase confirmation.
Then I'd assume that if they haven't arrived by the time you leave for San Fran, they will be at Will Call waiting for you.
I will talk to SJE tomorrow to confirm.
Still looking for airfare options. I'd like to avoid going to Bellingham if at all possible, but unless someone has a seat sale from YVR I may have no choice. Once I have that confirmed we're in (Mr. & Mrs. Bad Gones)
Thanks a lot Chris. It does say that my payment status is currently Pending and that the estimated payment completion will be tomorrow, so perhaps additional information will be sent after the payment is complete. I'll let you know if I receive any new info from WePay tomorrow.
Damn prices have gone up now for the flights! Should have booked earlier! Oh well looks like will have to spend the extra few bucks!

Mine gave me the option to print my tickets from home.
Has anyone found a cheaper option for accomodations?
If not, anyone want to split a room at the hotel mark twain? I will probably fly down on the 6th, and return on the 9th. Even if its for one night, let me know.
I'm waiting for a cheque. If i get it in time, i'd share a room there Chris. I was expecting it soon, but may be another 2-3 weeks now.
Ok Kris, let me know. How long are you staying in San Fran btw? You are flying I presume? Looks like the Mark Twain it is, because of convenience and most southside members are staying there. If you have any other accomodation choices lets hear 'em. I wont be able to attend the next kickabout on the 11th, so ill probably see ya at the first indoor match or the Caps season opener.
Yeah, I would most likely just do whatever most people are doing, staying where they stay etc. I have just recently thought about making the trip, so this will likely be a relatively late-notice type thing.
This past weekend I met the head of the Casbahs http://www.sjcasbah.com/ and he has invited any Whitecaps supporter who is going to the match to their tailgate.
Please let me know the final numbers and I will contact him. If there is a lot of us, he will have the tailgate moved to a different area of the parking lot away from their own 1906 Ultras
Count Janine & I in ... just sorting the details.
I presume the tailgate will change the San Francisco departure time then?
Yes it would change the departure time from SF, but I'm not sure how many people will want to Tailgate
I got a response back from Anthony Perry at SJE regarding the WePay online purchases. The printable "ticket" from the email purchase confirmation is actually only a receipt. His response on whether tickets would be mailed or available for pickup at will-call was this:
"Depending whether there is tifo or not and if there 10+ tickets ordered will determine if the tickets are mailed or at Will Call. There would be a physical ticket issued via snail mail or at the gate.
Thanks!
Anthony Perry San Jose Earthquakes

I guess we just wait and see if they get mailed or not.
Anthony is the guy I deal with regarding tickets.
So get your ticket orders in now.
Planning on going just as last year once work is sorted with vacation time (a bit screwy this year). Possibly with Mrs Buzzcut again if she's a good girl.
That sounds fantastic! My husband and I are in the planning stages and hoping to go. If there are any baseball fans here, the Mariners are playing Oakland on the Friday night.
When I ordered my ticket from the LA Galaxy last year, they mailed the ticket to me within a week. My gut is telling me that they will do the same. I mean its 2 months away, why shouldn't they?

Odd. Just ordered mine and printed out the "receipt". Doesn't say anywhere on it that it's not a ticket ...
And I thought the Whitecaps had ticketing issues ;-)
Not sure if they've changed the website but I just paid for my ticket and was able to print off both my ticket and my receipt.
_Vancouver Southsiders Tickets Ticket The only guaranteed seating option with Vancouver Supporter's. The reserved seating physical tickets will be available either day of game or mailed. These tickets are $3 off day of game prices.
Information This will be the collecting software for the 4/7 away supporter tickets. **The tickets printed off will serve as a receipt and the true tickets will be at Will Call **based on any tifo.
If tifo is involved after the group reaches 10 people then tickets will be mailed._
The above is what it says on the order page and was also confirmed to me by email from San Jose's FO.
The ticket I had printed off from the email confirmation just had a serial number on it and a scan code but no section or seat info. I don't even think it had much in the way of event details on it either - it just said Southsider Seat. Anyhow, lots of time left until the that game so I'm sure there's no reason why they wouldn't just mail them to us.
^I'm starting to freak out man - its Uniglobe all over again!!! :-SS
Meh. It'll all be fine. Looks like we're heading down on the Thursday and Coming home Sunday instead of Fri-Mon. Allows us to use Aeroplan Miles ... woohoo!
^you driving? My wife wants to go to Sacremento(???) stupid Internet!
Flying. May rent a car for a quick trip to Sonoma, returning through Berkley for dinner at Chez Panise. Tentative at the moment.

Chez Panise - Nice! Any recommendations for an equally nice meal around Union Square?
There's a cool little place called Canteen in the Tenderloin. Most everything else I know is in the Mission, Pacific Heights ... not exactly Union Square.
Does anyone know the reserve game on the following day is open to public?
According to my contacts there San Jose reserve matchs have been open to the pubic in the past.
piltdownman said: According to my contacts there San Jose reserve matchs have been open to the pubic in the past.
The weird thing is that there is no info on their website, not even match schedule unless I missed it somewhere...I will probably need to stay in SJ for Sat night then
Janine told me that yesterday. Kinda fucks up an entire day if it takes us 1h40m to get there. On the other hand, it does free up Saturday evening for the victory party!

The Casbahs hate the 1906 Ultras
Ah yes the d-bags that like to steal scarves..
As an idle member of the Casbah (and an informal member of the Ultras), meeting up with the Casbah pre-game would be good if (and only if) they did move their tailgate, as it is right next to the Ultras' tailgate. The Casbah will not instigate fights, and the Ultras try not to, but sometimes there are people that just want to fight. I think that can be said of all supporters groups.
As for travel to SJ, if the game were midsummer, WestJet out of YVR to SFO would have been the best choice. Instead y'all are shoehorned into flying Air Canada out of YVR, Allegiant out of Bellingham, or the many airlines that fly to the 3 Bay Area airports out of SEA.
Those of you that aren't renting a car should stay at a hotel in San Francisco. Don't be afraid to use Hotwire to book yoru hotel room at a discounted rate... same goes with priceline. There is a caltrain station immediately across from the stadium so commuting to the game is an easy option as Caltrain goes from SF to San Jose.
Those of you wishing to drive to the game should get there 2 hours early (at least) if you want a great FREE parking spot. There is some street parking on Campbell Avenue (off of El camino Real by Steven Schott Stadium) and thats where I used to park before games for the short walk to the tailgate. There is ample street parking (provided you get there early) west of the stadium on The Alameda (by 7-11), Franklin, Sherman, and Fremont Streets. You can walk to the stadium from there, or to any of the paid parking lots wherever the tailgate is set up. (The lots are off of El Camino Real between Railroad Avenue and Portola Avenue.) The current Casbah/Ultras tailgate lot is at Campbell avenue and El camino Real. If you use google maps, it is by the dot that says "onTrac drop box"
Oh, and Reserve League games are held at the QUakes training facility, which is right next to SJC and where the proposed Quakes stadium is to be built.
So how many of us are heading down for this match? I'm asking because I ran across these guys while researching eating options for San Francisco:
http://thebolditalic.com/brewtruc2012/stories/1614-strange-brew-

Essentially, the BrewTruc is run by a guy who started LeTruc (think high-end food truck). It's a school bus that's tricked out with 6 beer taps. He rents it out, with driver and microwbrews for an all-you-can-drink evening.
So I'm thinking San Francisco to San Jose and back WITH beer ...
Seating is limited to 26. Prices start at $30/person plus driver & mileage. More expensive that the Caltrain to be sure ... but a hell of a lot more fun.
Indicate your interest here, and if the numbers look good I'll get a quote.
That looks very cool Arne. I would definitely be interested in something like that.
Well done gents. Would love to get someone to cover my on call.
Just to be clear:
1) The $30 is a base line number from the web site ... I still need to get a quote so it will almost definitely be more.
2) I'm looking for numbers of people who are definitely going to the San Jose match. Indicate your attendance with a "+1" or "+2" etc. indicating how many would be coming.
Thanks!
