FC Edmonton away (Voyageurs Cup) - Wednesday, May 2
  • VanCityVilla

    Flying to Edmonton
Attending the Voyageurs Cup/Amway Canadian Championship match
    Staying in accommodation in Edmonton

  • -Will be there along with three other season ticket holders. All four of us will need/want tickets in the Southsiders section.

-Will need accommodations for Wednesday night and will likely want to be part of the hotel package by the ESG.

-Will probably not be attending supporters match but will advise if this changes.

-Flying up but don't need flight package.

    Thanks B&W Army.

I'm waiting to see what Edmonton can come up package wise, but hope to fly there, go to game and stay overnight.

A kick off time would also be useful, as if it was early enough, it would allow for flying back the same night on the 9.15 flight.

Supporters match I'm not too fussed about, but if you were short would consider it.

Edmonton airport is so far from the city that you would need a 5pm kickoff to catch that 9.15 flight.

    It's on a weeknight, no? No chance you're catching a 9:15.

No, but for FC Edmonton vs Toronto FC last year, they cost:

    • $25 for General Admission
    • $35 for Reserved Seats

I'll be flying using Avion points, taking part in the supporters' match, needing 1 ticket for the VC match, and staying overnight (looking to see the FCE deal).

I sincerely doubt random people on the board are thinking of going just because you're pondering the same.

I'll be at the match for sure, but still working out the travel arrangements. If the timelines work I'd be more than happy to play.

  • ThrillaFC (Tobi) from ESG here. We're looking at 3-3:30 kickoff for the supporters' match, so if you're playing, try your best to be at the venue no later than 2pm. What that also means is that the KO of the actual match will probably be at 7-7:30.

Looking forward to it Tobi. Are you thinking a full 11v11 or a smaller maybe half-field game? My mental tally puts it as a bit of a stretch to get the 11 out to play, but i could be mistaken.

  • It all depends on how many you have committed on coming and playing. I say by the end of March we'll look at the signups on both sides and figure out the rules.

On our end, we just started our recruiting drive for the match, and I have a good feeling we can field an 11-player squad + bench. Although it's still hard to tell if everyone will actually have time off on May 2. Again, I think it's something we can sit on until the end of March.

That sounds good. Are many of you guys planning on making the trip down here for the 9th? I'm sure we could organize something on our end as well...

  • We don't have concrete numbers yet but some are starting to make arrangements to have time around the 9th off for a road trip. From what I've been told, like how you guys are talking to FCE, we (Nathan or Alex) are trying to get in touch w/ the Whitecaps. I don't know if communication has been established yet. We will keep you up to date.

You guys think we can do a "leg 2" of the supporters' match there? Do even more charitable work? Think we can play in BC Place before the big one (pipe dream)?

  • ThrillaFC said: Think we can play in BC Place before the big one (pipe dream)?

If you play up the charity angle, that just might fly...

I totally think we have to do a second leg. But I think we should do it maybe at Andy Livingstone, so more people can be close to the action, then we can all walk over to BC Place.

Have a 3 or more team tournament with southsiders, Edmonton supporters, and the street soccer league we are helping?

That might be a bit much.... especially on a wednesday before an evening kickoff.

A second round would be great, we can play standard Voyageurs cup rules regarding aggregate. Andy Livingston would be a good venue for that! Also, try playing up the charity angle and we may get some time to play before the caps/FCE warm-up at BC Place

Just throwing this out there, but I think that the Southsiders who make the trip and play in the first leg, should also get first refusal for playing in the second leg.

Decent idea. Flip side would be let's let members who weren't able to play in the first leg get some game time.

  • We could always do FCE+la12 vs Southside if their numbers don't work out.

no, just me. If we are short i used to play on a team there and i could get a few 'honorary' southsiders to come out.

Also, as mentioned before, the airport is way out of town. We would need a shuttle to bring us into the city or to the hotel.

There is a hotel shuttle, but it snakes through the city and takes forever. Getting a towncar is cheaper than taxi.

Me and my lil bro 90% sure we are making the trip. If the flight+hotel is dirt cheap I could see us doing that but right now the plan is to drive it. Supporters game is a maybe depending on time (late enough so we can leave early morning but early enough to shower before the VC match). And yes we would need two tickets. As for accommodations, we are looking into hostels or fleabag hotels.
