    May 10th, 2012 WS171 YEG-YVR 0730-0800 - $125

After taxes and everything, it's $368.13 roundtrip. I checked these dates as that way people (may) only need to take Wednesday off work, and we still get in early to Edmonton so we can see the city...

Midweek game probably wont get too many... guess it just depends on the amount of vacation people get

    Isn't it almost guaranteed that it's a mid-week game?

Can any Edmontonians recommend a hotel, as I have been on Priceline and they are ridiculous prices

I think we should go for the cheapest option...Let's get a bunch of campsites and a bunch of tents! I can make a good campfire for all of us!

Bus and then camping. We'll feel like proper hippies! Can we get the bus to only use bio-diesel?

edit: make that, ORGANIC bio diesel?

Us getting Edmonton means that TFC and Montreal will play each other five times. That's just crazy. Way to kill a rivalry with over exposure before it even begins.

And look how much we no longer have a rivalry with them.

The rivalry between Toronto and Montreal is centuries old. They'll be fine.

  • First time posting on the Southsiders board... Should be lots of hotel options here in Edmonton, the question is how far out into the city you want to go. Best to find a place on the LRT line... lots of options downtown. Try the Suite hotels downtown, sometimes you can find decent specials. But hotels on the West End, by the mall, are going to be cheaper, even though it will be more difficult to get to Commonwealth.

As for the timing of the official announcement and schedule, it has a lot more to do with the CSA getting the new sponsor name sorted out than the NASL schedule.

    Cheers Steven.

I know you've been saying for weeks this was going to be the outcome.

I'm also hearing a lot of pressure from eastern clubs to cut down on travelling had a lot to do with it.

  • Thanks, Steven.

Does any hotel sponsor FC Edmonton or the Alberta Major Soccer League?

And are you aware of soccer ever being played at Kinsmen Park between Tuesdays and Thursdays?

Looking forward to the Booster Juice Canadian Championship schedule. ;)

  • I am heading to FCE camp tomorrow, will ask about road teams in 2012, where they will stay, etc.

And, as for soccer in Kinsmen Park, is there a desire out there for a pick up game? The fields at Kinsmen are used A LOT for football.

I gotta tell you, the fields at Kinsman aren't as spectacular as that picture you have makes them seem. It's just a really good picture.

I'd be down for a pickup game at Kinsman. It may just be a great picture, but it looks kinda cool anyways and it's always fun to play. Perhaps a Southsiders vs FCE's supporter's group (dont know the name) match is in order

Almost all the deal sites are vacations to warm places. With very little competition. you either have the AC or WJ fare.

  • I know FC Edmonton can't officially say anything because the game hasn't been announced yet... And there are no tickets on sale. (In terms of any sort of possible packages)

Don't think you will find much in terms of deals to Edmonton. Not really a "vacation" destination. Probably only WJ or AC fly there. (maybe smaller regional airlines but will probably be more expensive)

  • I'm surprised that none of you have dug up some obscure airline that flies Seattle to Edmonton for half the price as from Vancouver. ;)

^I looked it up, but it's only a savings of $20 with a fare of $346 (Tax in). The kicker is you need to transfer in Vancouver both ways.

So yes thats right you save money by adding the two extra flights.

If it was an early kick off, doing it in one day may even work!

It always amazes me how expensive it is to travel to other places in Canada.

I'd love to go to Nova Scotia for example, but can fly back home to Scotland for less.

Yes, but then you'd be in shitty cities watching shitty teams instead of in Edmonton watching our national championship.
