We have a new section on the Southsiders board to try and keep all the blog updates in one easy to find place. Just click 'Whitecaps Media' and select your blogs of choice.
AFTN has moved under the Canadian Soccer News umbrella from yesterday. Nothing will change content wise. It will still be the usual analysis and general nonsense, but I've added some familiar faces as new writers and columnists.
I'll be posting all our latest article updates in this thread from now on.
You can go find AFTN at any time via the nice and simple: http://www.aftn.ca
It's Friday Fun again on AFTN, as we bring you our latest "MLS Team of the Week".
With Christmas coming up, that means a chocolate and sugar overload (for me at least!), so this week it's the 'Sweet Treat XI'.
See which current Whitecaps player made the team, and which two ex ones also did. Who would you have in reserve?

We take a look back at the Caps U18 and U16 games against the Sounders on Saturday...

Part two of our "Canada v Cascadia" feature looks at what the Canadian rivalries, in particular, mean to long-time Caps fan, and forum regular, Seathanaich....

In the third and final part next week, we'll be looking at what Cascadia and the games with Seattle and Portland mean to another well known Southsider.
I'm glad to see you on CSN, (a) to get as many Canadian soccer bloggers in one place as possible, and (b) to inject a little more BC content into it. Nice job linking some of those paragraphs together.
Tis the season to be jolly, so AFTN will be bringing you some festive frolics this weekend. We kick things off today with our latest "MLS Team of the Week" - The Christmas XI...

To keep the Christmas spirit coming, AFTN presents you with a special festive sing-a-long: The Whitecaps 12 Days Of Christmas...

Yesterday we re-ran our Dickensian themed Whitecaps season review.
You may already have read, you may not have, but nothing says Christmas like Dickens...

For Christmas Day AFTN brings you a new section - "MLS Back Catalogue".
Discographies and bibliographies re-imagined with MLS players.
Today we kick things off with Christmas songs. A few Caps and ex Caps make the top ten countdown. Get into the festive spirit and sing along.

Everyone likes a bargain in the Boxing Day sales. But are there still bargain players to be found in football?
There most certainly are and AFTN looks at what we feel were the best value Whitecaps players in 2011, and the best value for money XI in MLS as a whole.
It proved to be quite an eye opening project...
Nice work on that one. I'm still amazed Nyassi was let go by Colorado.
It's the final part of our "Canada v Cascadia" series today, as Devon takes a look at Cascadia, the rivalries and what the region means to him...

WOW! Has this one stirred up alot of debate. Me thinks our brethren on the east coast are starting to believe we're the traitorous hippies they always thought we were. :P
Great read by the way, it has really increased the validity of the site for me as a west coast boy.
Our Eastern brethren don't like it when they're not the ones doing the ignoring

Agreed. I've started reading it every few days now, instead of once every few months. Great addition to the site.
Great work on the Cascadia vs. Canada debate! Definitely one of the most informative things I've read in a while.
Referendum on Cascadian independence anyone? :P

Been some bizarre comments left on the piece, but great to have the debate and interest.
Drew and Devon did a great job with the two pieces.
New Year's Eve is approaching, people are going to be out and about, celebrating, eating, drinking and dancing.
With this in mind, our latest "MLS Team of the Week" is the Dance XI...

You want bizarre comments on CSN sometime, GoF, try referring to Toronto's team as "the Toronto FCs". Whenever I did it somebody didn't realize I was trolling them, and it got funnier every single time.
I remember you calling them the "FC's", then sitting back and watching their heads explode :-))
What song(s) would you pick if you were soundtracking the Whitecaps' 2011? We've come up with a Top Ten, but add your own...

Excellent post by Johnnie on the Cascadia thread, worth your time to read:
Everyone has their wishes for 2012. AFTN spoke to a mix of Whitecaps players, pundits, writers and fans for theirs, including Eric Hassli, Ben Fisk, Peter Schaad and our very own new dear leader...

The latest post on AFTN looks at whether the Caps can land a Carolina trifecta in Watson, Knighton and Barbara.
Been told from a good source that the announcement of Knighton's signing should be official any day now.

Montreal doesn't want Barbara?
They haven't said one way or the other and won't comment on him. They could be tempted by the right trade deal to waive his rights I would have though.
Do the Whitecaps need another forward? They already have Hassli, Camilo, Omar, Tan, Harris, Jarju, Chiumiento and Lee.
Trading for another forward who is an international to boot would be a waste in my opinion.

You mean Nguyen?

Yes, sorry, Lee Nguyen

Attacking Midfielder = Forward.
That's a generous category. Maybe it's just me, but I would categorize an attacking midfielder as a midfielder. I know, call me crazy.
For most of the season he played out wide, but remember that midseason for a short spell he also played almost as a withdrawn striker in the centre.
Chiumiento only has a position on paper. In reality, Dede wanders wherever the heck he wants. Perhaps he's a bad example ;)
The Van der Vaart of the MLS. If only he had the same penetrating runs.
I would disagree that we don't need another striker. I think we badly need someone to help out Camilo and Hassli in the goal count.
I would class both Chiumiento and Jarju as midfielders in Rennie's reign, and Nguyen is likely to be played on the wing in a Salinas style role, if we even keep him.
Tan and Salgado aren't the answer (at least not yet) and the jury still has to be out on Harris. He may have scored a couple, but remember how many chances he was missing before his injury.
We need a new striker with a decent pedigree, whether that be Barbara or someone else.
When we're talking about signing Barbara, we're talking about signing a question mark (a 30-year-old in June with one absolutely excellent NASL season, one very good one, and a bunch of mediocrity) to augment our existing question marks (Tan, Salgado, and Harris). Barbara is older than any of those other three guys. Unlike Salgado, he'd count against our salary cap, and if those rumours of Tan's $100,000/y extension are false Barbara would probably be the most expensive out of Tan and Harris.
Barbara outscored Tan heavily in USSF D2, but Tan was playing more left wing whereas Barbara was a pure target man.
I think Barbara deserves a look in MLS for sure, but I don't think the Whitecaps are the right team.

Yeah thats what fucked up Sohen. He heard Jarju was a "forward" and thought that meant striker.
Wendy Jo takes us inside her box today and shows us what Whitecaps resolutions we should all be a part of in 2012...

Hello Michael. I was on vacation recently, so I was unfortunately not here when Devon's article went on your site. I already berated him for getting to comment on the first article, which your other writer did not get to do. It's great to see the response that you have had. The points in Devon's article which I disagreed with I addressed there; but I like the way that he also noted that the Voyageurs Cup was more important than the Cascadia Cup can be (though he didn't comment on the implications that had for the importance of comparing the two rivalries). There were some great comments by readers, in paticular the one by Johnnie Monster.
I really appreciate all the articles you have been doing recently - keep up the good work. I come home and there are tonnes of articles to read!
Cheers! Both of your articles went down a storm, especially since they were in the off season.
You're more than welcome to write anything you want to get off your chest any time you want!
I think Devon should write lots of communist articles on the Highlanders ;)
