    Desperately sad, just shows how someone can seem to have everything going for them, but not be happy in their private life. He seemed like a top bloke, and I don't think anyone had a bad thing to say about the guy.

    Incidentally, I have to say I found the tributes at Swansea and Anfield very moving. As a United supporter, I might not always see eye to eye with Liverpool FC, but their fans are always classy when it comes to occasions like this.

    Just woke up and read the news. Terrible.

    Crazy to think he was just on Football Focus on the Beeb talking about stuff just hours before he killed himself.

    Just listened to 606, had tears in my eyes a couple of times. Robbie Savage was obviously devastated.

    He will be sorely missed. Helped Leeds United win the last First Division Championship before the Premier League was formed. Always seemed a frist class Human Being and Footballer...

    Very troubling. I just hope the police are certain what happened. He obviously didn't move in similar circles, but what has come out about Arturo Gatti in the recent past makes me question how much work the cops do in these situations. It doesn't seem to add up from a great distance away.

    I woke up, read my Twitter timeline, and couldn't believe what I had read, I thought I was still sleeping and just seeing things. Gary was a fantastic player, as well as an up and coming manager for an improving Welsh National Team and he has been taken off this earth far too young.

    Rest in Peace, Gary Speed.

    following the shock death, the world of football was in mourning as they paid tribute to the former player.

    Supporters of the teams Speed played for were leaving flowers, shirts and scarves outside their grounds as a mark of respect.

    At the Welsh Assembly building in Cardiff, flags were flying at half-mast today.
