Is going to be class for us. I thought his quality was there to see against RSL and he had a decent game. Trinidad international, only just turned 24, 6'1" good presence about him and a clean sheet in the game, excellent.
There was one point during the game where he swung a ball over from one side of the field to the other and the ball landed right on Khalfans feet, i predict this lad will be part of our core group next year.
I know it's early and he's only just signed for us, but if he improves from this point he's going to be fantastic. Looking forward to seeing more of him.
I'm looking forward to seeing more from him.
It was an unspectacular but solid and steady performance from his against RSL.
And solid and steady are certainly not two words you would use to describe the Caps defence this season.
Brenton said:Remember how high everyone was on Boxall after one or two games. Now he just looks like exactly what he is, a big, raw, typical English central defender. Let's be patient with our assessment of Mitchell.

I fully expect him to be among the top 25 defenders in the world one day.
Sarcasm; lowest form of wit etc ;)
Sometimes you dont need 20 games to judge a player - you can just see they have all the tools in their locker to be decent - smalling and jones for man utd are examples of that.
Brenton said:Smalling played 12 games for Fulham two years ago, then 16 for ManU last season. Jones played a full season at Blackburn.

Ok, here we go, chance to really impress on the big stage in front of 50,000
He's done decent today.
Hopefully you wrote that before Seattle's second goal.
Despite the result, he played well. Not the level of DeMerit or Bonjour, but certainly his best match as a Whitecap.
Too bad, he was decent last year, but he is done. Two games, two dismal marking efforts.

I'll be generous and say he played like our 4th choice center back

I did, his fault for that second goal.
FWIW from what I've seen (and I'll be glad when Bonjour and Demerit are back starting), he's no worse than Jordan Harvey was at the start of the year.
Harvey's gotten better-hopefully Mitchell can pick it up in the practices and reserve league games and keep getting better.
Christ is everyone going to jump on the young man when he has not been played most of the season, he is young enough to be a player we devlop to get to the level that our staters are at, seeing that the rest of them are not particularly young that may not be a bad idea. I have way bigger concerns with a certain Kenny Miller and his lack of offense.
Exactly...Young players make mistakes, but they eventually turn into veterans. Mitchell can make it as a pro. If we're lucky, a good enough pro to play for us.
Agreed. I give Rennie credit for playing him today rather than doing his favourite AR-into-the-middle JH-in-at-leftback thing, because that makes us weaker in two positions rather than just one. If he'd had six starts this year instead of two I suspect the team would be stronger with no change in the results we've had (or maybe even better results, given the howler JdM had after the All Star game). I certainly don't think he played "badly" today, or was culpible on goal two.
He gives some long passes away (I remember two from today). He sometimes lunges at things he should be more cautious on. But if doing that is a crime, then all the other centre backs are guilty of it on occassion too. One up-side about CM, that hasn't happened in an MLS game but HAS in reserve matches, is that the guy can score from corner kicks. If he got a few more MLS games I'd like to see him do that.
I don't think he was that bad either. You can do a lot worse for a fourth-string CB (just look at what Toronto is trotting out).
As above, a few giveaways that could have (but didn't) hurt us, and a few poor reads (one egregious one on Johnson that forced Koffie into a foul and a card, I think). But he was decent considering how many competitive matches he's played all season. His positioning was quite good at times in the second half, led to a few clean interceptions.
He should have done better on the second goal, but before the ball was moved over to Evans I was yelling to get someone to cover him. He was sooooooo open, for quite some time.
It was far from perfect, and his possession was surprisingly poor compared to what I remembered last season, but there were some very good plays, too.
Glad to see him out there, I hope we give the guy time, and opportunities, to develop, because long-term he might end up quite good.
His first ten minutes were dire. He gave the ball away at least three times in dangerous positions. I can see why Rennie doesn't rate him. He's not very composed back there.
I like him, and I think he shows promise. However, I don't think Rennie has the patience to wait for him to develop. Ergo, we won't be seeing him again. It's a pity that he was thrown to the wolves in Seattle.
Decent positionally and handled Johnson quite well. he's distribution was pretty awful though. Glad to see him in there thou rather than AR pushed in and Harvey used at left back.
Didn't think he was all that bad, but nothing special. Long passing was not up to his usual standards, but I think he's a much better option than Rochat in the middle.

I would have questioned Rennie's patience, too, but when O'Brien was signed, Rennie talked about having young players there who eventually were going to be very good, but weren't ready yet. Mitchell would be the most likely subject of that remark.
And I wouldn't expect to see much of him this year, I think the key point for him is the next preseason.
Not sure how many of our international spots expire next season, but you'd think he and Barbara would be the first casualties.
Doesn't Harris take an international spot? If so, I'd release him before those two. Barbara didn't look as bad as Harris did.

He does not. I would still release him before those other two.
in the off-season, i would guess there r at least 4 other players than CM who will be let go- harris, watson, barbera and thorrington IF he gets another major injury; the caps still need better quality depth IMO; so CM and probably harvey are riding a bubble as to next season

Mitchell is helped because he's on the minimum senior salary. If there's an international spot available, he's an easy guy to keep unless his contract is expiring.
For those not happy with Mitchell, had Rochat been there, we would have been burned even worse. Pause for thought.
Carlyle would have fit in great last year..... not good enonugh for MLS. He should not be around for next season.
