Any update when some new MLS apparel might be available ?
Those blue training jackets look pretty cool, I wonder if they'll ever sell a version of that?  There really isn't much to choose from at the moment.

training jackets, tops, pants, 3/4 pants and lots more are slated to come out in the spring, probably around mid- to late february. a LOT of the Adidas gear has Bell branding on it though, and i know a lot of people weren't too keen on that

    Great.
People need to realize that without corporate sponsorship that the MLS probably wouldn't be possible for the whitecaps.

With the rare exception of Barcelona FC, there's probably not a professional soccer team anywhere that doesn't have it's label across the front of its jersey.

Do you work with the Whitecaps FC; is that how you know about the the impending apparel release?

I'd like to see just the whitecaps crest sold separately so that we can sew it onto whatever we want.

Exception? They just signed one of the biggest deals ever with Qatar Foundation, who are well dodgy.

Too bad - They used to only have UNESCO or "Save the Children" or something nice like that.  I guess that couldn't last indefinitely.

Barcelona's been struggling financially, so they took the money.  They will still donate to UNICEF, but can't continue giving up the money (25 million pounds/year)

I agree with the sponsorship point you made.  If Bell will pay, then I'll wear their name.  Just the way things are.  Not as crazy as S. America with their 50 different sponsors!  Like European hockey, it's just a way to keep the league going.

I agree with that sentiment when it comes to the strip but no other club merchandise I have from all over the world comes with the sponsor on it's apparel as well.

GoF, it's not that uncommon, especially if it's an item the apparel company (nike, adidas) puts out as opposed to the club. lots of training tops, jackets and track suits have the primary sponsor somewhere on them. this is especially true with lots of national team warmup apparel. i guess they need to put it somewhere, since it won't go on the jersey

Like I mentioned before, I wish that they would just sell the new Whitecaps MLS logo as a patch, then we could sew it onto whatever we want, rather then it always being stuck on something that says Adidas.

I might just buy a hat and cut the logo off of and place it on a hoody or something LoL

  • I got a Whitecaps official scarf for my birthday. IT'S TOO SHORT! You can't wrap it around your neck in any fashion other than letting it hang like an awkward horseshoe. It fails as a scarf because it provides no warmth. Tragic.

  • my neck is a 17-1/4, not that big.

it definitely goes around, but then the remaining pieces are not long enough. they hang super awkward.

just warning anyone who intends to use it for warmth.

for example, almost all of these methods are unattainable:

Not sure these would be big enough, but could be ideal for us sewing on to gear.

I'm thinking of buying 5 and making my own strip.

Stick it on something like this:

    http://www.shopadidas.ca/product/GM116/P93429/Sports/Men's-PREDATOR-UCL-Jersey/detail.jsf

Add a Cascadia patch on one sleeve, founders patch on the other.

and there you have a custom Southside Caps jersey

This would be really cool as a loyalty thing. Be a Southsider for, say, 5 years and get your jersey instead of the usual scarf/pin package.

Are you purchasing the patches? I would buy one off of you. $17 is a bit steep, and I don't want 5. I was gonna buy a hat too and sew the patch on my Adidas Argentina zip-up. It's a thing of beauty with the navy/baby blue/white and would look even better with the Caps logo sewn over the AFA! It will be one sick zip-up. I want to walk into the Caps store and say "THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE".

I just order a package of 5 and could probably spare one, after I start running out of things to stick them on.
Yah, I like the idea of custom making our own stuff, Schalke on one arm, Southsider's on the other arm and our home club whitecaps over my heart on the front.

  • The lack of team merchandise at this late point is perplexing. Is it me or does the team store pail in comparison to other team's versions ?

I did see a grey-blueish hooded sweatshirt at Sportchek around Christmas (gone now). Other than that, it's still just the jerseys and plain white T's & hoodies. Kind of bland so far.

Is Adidas Canada partly to blame ?

  • Well, I am sure it helps the Timbers that Adidas USA is based in Portland. That is one sweet presentation jacket they have going. Hopefully the Whitecaps will get something similar.

absolutely. everything that was on offer from adidas was in the whitecaps store in metrotown as well as the store i work at.

this should be more of an adidas gripe than a whitecaps one

If Adidas Canada is to blame why does TFC have so much merchandise?

Even San Jose has a ton more stuff than Vancouver and their attendance is less than 10k.

tfc has been around for years longer, and they have an idea of what kind of numbers they'll do with merch? just hazarding a guess.

believe me when i say there's a lot more stuff set to be released in the spring (around march 1)...not as much as tfc just yet, but definitely more than what's around right now

  • Still basically the same stuff on the team store (web site) from near the original site launch.

I really was hoping for a lot more.  Will they at least have a blue t-shirt, everything right now is the cheap-looking white t-shirts.

I think they're missing out on sales opportunities.  The NHL switched to the dark jerseys at home as stats showed people were more likely to purchase the dark colors

Does anyone know how the season ticket holder discounts work? Where / how do we buy the merch and get the discount?

I asked this question on the Whitecaps' facebook page, but it's been ignored. Instead they need to post about Whitecaps cakes and cupcakes. : P

I would image it works like it does in Seattle that with your season tickets you will get a card which gives you a discount at the club store at the stadium.

I bought a cheap blue hoodie from Mark's Work Wharehouse and ordered some Whitecap's MLS logos (off of ebay $17 for 5) and sewed it on.  That way, you can make your own gear and don't need to wait for whatever they want to give you and you're not a walking billboard for Bell or Adidas.

    FINALLY !!

Went back to the same Sport Chek(Park Royal) where I got the white authentic s/s 25% off back in early December and lo and behold there was a wonderful selection of new stuff. Rain jackets & pants, track pants, training tops, pre-game jerseys, polo shirts. After seeing nothing new for so long it was a shock to the system seeing it all displayed so prominently at the front. Felt like a kid in a candy store.

Got the blue replica for Mrs Buzzcut to match her white one and a l/s training top for myself for the colder games. Just in time for the 1st game .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way this sale works is that the second item (of equal or lesser value) is 50% off,. So buying two of the same item would effectively give you a 25% discount on both items.
