I note that some teams have a third kit of a different color scheme; what about us?

I'd imagine we will see that either in October or the start of next season, the marketing people at Adidas never sit on their backsides

Maybe we'll introduce one next season. Might of been a bit of a risk releasing 3 kits right off the bat, so far it looks like both blue & white kits have sold well. I sure hope they don't come out with brand new home & away kits next year. With the Canucks having changed jerseys numerous times, I don't think it'd do the 'Caps any good.

home kit will be every other season, I bet they'll release a new away kit next season and the blue one will become the third kit. Which is fine, hopefully more people will start wearing whitecaps shirts and stop wearing other teams shirts if they feel the need to put a football top on

I dont know that a third kit would be necessary. We play in white, and when it conflicts with another team, can wear blue. Why would we NEED a third kit? aside from extra revenue... then comes the question, what colour?! What would be appropriate that it wouldnt conflict with white, or blue, or goalkeepers gear?

IIRC there's a league policy that prevents a 3rd kit from coming out until the 3rd season.

Now, I'm no fashion designer - but here's my attempt to make a couple 3rd kits. The 'caps can thank me later. ;)

Sounders had a 3rd kit their second season, that awful neon yellow thing.  But ... I'm not sure they ever wore it in an MLS match, I think they may have used it just in friendlies and CONCACAF.

Exactly ... that's why the league now says you need 3 seasons.  Obviously Seattle needed MUCH more time to decide on their 3rd kit. (Tongue planted firmly in cheek)

I love the Galaxy 3rds. I'd like something similar... Dark blue, but with light blue accents and silver for all the logos...

Toronto have red (with white trim) as their first kit, and white (with red trim) as their second kit.  They used to have a grey third kit, but it was discontinued.

Then, last month, Toronto was drawn against Real Esteli in the CONCACAF Champions League.  Esteli wear red and white stripes.  Toronto only had red or white uniforms.... The result was a bad kit clash.

Toronto is incapable of doing ANYthing right. The one thing they had going for them was that their kit was pretty sharp. Can't have that! Let's change it and put ANOTHER boring white alternate into the MLS mix.

I like the one on the left. It's got an early 80's Canucks flying V feel to it!

I'd love to see a retro (circa 1979) jersey for our 3rd kit.

I would guess that any retro/hoop won't happen for years. The caps have made a great effort to break from that look and go a different direction, I doubt they would release anything with the style the abandoned anytime soon.

Those are pretty nice. I'm torn to be honest. I like the right one, because it kind of mimics the top of the logo, but the left one has the big V for vancouver (also canucks throwback) and looks a fair amount like our Large Vs...

If true that makes no sense. The Whitecaps primary kit only conflicts with other clubs that wear white.  Yellow also conflicts with White. Well at least we will something to wear against KC.

If they want to make more money (well, more of MY money anyway), they should sell those cool short-sleeved black goalkeeper jerseys. I'd buy one.

it's not "mustard" brown, it's "mustang", which for me, evokes images of a chocolaty brown, which might look decent with a light blue trim.

although everything i've heard indicates that it will be the third kit, not the away

  • a Mustard Yellow away kit is a good idea... when we play Portland (away) and even Colorado this coming week they have white in all their kits that can cause a mild kit clash. That being said we should not wear our yellow kit at home, and Colorado/Portland should have proper away kits that are bright or all dark for their away matches.

I would love to see our blue kit worn at home next year vs Portland and have them wear their "rose city reds"

The timbers kits are sharp, especially the red.

I'd love to see a black 3rd with a blue hoop. Little bit of new shool with the black, and a little bit of oldschool with the hoop.
  • I was hoping the 3rd kit would be based in black as well. Mustard is a nasty colour that I don't think it will sell that well. 3rd kits are usually to boost sales of merchandise - to whom does mustard yellow appeal?

Oh well, I still love my away kit and other than the advertising for Bell, the dark blue shirt looks good to wear out even on non game days.

The problem with our current kit is EVERYONE uses the same colour schemes. Seems like half the teams have variations on white/navy. Us, NY, NE, LA, KC (close). Wish more teams would forge a distinctive identity.

Would need to be something that is actually a 3rd colour though, as black and navy are too close.  I think a red one like the 86ers used to wear would be nice. Or yellow and blue like BC's colours.

Dallas is at least distinctive though. If you see horizontal hoops in MLS, you know you're looking at Dallas. I'd be hard pressed to tell the away jerseys of NE, KC and Van apart at a glance.

It's no shock they went with a new identity. Sure, wanted to show themselves as a different identity with the new MLS tag and all that. Even better than that is everyone has to buy the new jerseys, and in 2 years if they switch back to the single hoop it's a great PR move and more jersey sales. Win win.
  • Southside Nation,

A few months ago I heard that next year there will be a kit that should have at least some elements of the classic 'Caps' kit...for better or worse.

    Much Love,

    Forever A Team
